Nats get to the break in pretty good shape, and I'm referring to physical shape more than anything else. Been pretty lucky in regards to the injury bug, unlike last season. Currently only a couple of minor things with Ross (starting pitcher) on the DL with a slight strain and Zimmerman fighting some minor stuff. I like the way Baker has handled the line-up by getting the reserves some consistent starts and resting the vets on a regular basis. The only real concern I have is the bullpen which still has the air of a work in progress, as in, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. A little skeptical of both the mid-relief and the closer. We'll see if any moves get made in the bullpen. All else seems ok. -- Al

Al:

My biggest fear is that the Giants will make a move when the obviously do not have to.

My second biggest fear is that the Giants will get Warrior-ed. The best record in baseball is meaningless without a World Series ring.

And again, lots of baseball to be played but I think a Giants vs. Nationals NLCS would be great.

No arguments on this end. I would certainly like to see the same thing, providing the god of even-year titles is neutral this time.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha, that is a good one, I might use it!

On a side note Baker is still very well liked in the Bay Area. He was a great manager and he really laid a foundation for where the franchise is now.

I truly hope that some if not all all of our teams make the playoffs, The Giants, Nats, Sox, O's Mets etc. Although only one can win it, and well, as you alluded to it is an even year.......

The winner of the All-Star game is the AL, which, once again, gets the home team advantage in the WS. What a stupid way to determine such an important edge in the ultimate baseball series. It makes more sense just to alternate year by year, or award HTA to the team with the best record. -- Al

I watched about an inning and nothing of the HR Derby. It's become a waste of time.

Quite agree. Didn't watch any of it either. The Hr Derby is a joke. I read where they use juiced balls for the Derby, so what's the point? They ought to just let everyone rest at the season half-way mark and be done with it. -- Al

Agree, when it first came out years back it was pretty neat but I can only take Boomer screaming...'Back, Back, Back" so many times and time to flip the channel, I didn't watch any of it, caught Trumbo's high lites on the O's website and that was about it.

Well, back at it on Friday, O's start in Tampa for a weekend series then off to New York, all series are important but being the Orioles are right back in the AL East fights make it all that much more to play some good ball and try and win a few series from the get go, looking forward to the 2nd half...Sammy

I am a huge baseball fan and I can't bring myself to watch any of the All-Star game or its related festivities.

Then again that goes for most sports as far as All-Star games. About the only thing I watch is the NHL skills competition.

Looking forward to the new 30 for 30 ESPN special tomorrow night...Doc and Darryl, the rise of these 2 players and playing in the big city and the insights into the team as well, I enjoy the 30 for 30 series, usually very well done...Sammy

Sammy:

I plan on watching that one too.

I didn't watch either but it was nice to see the Os had 5 players on the roster. And, two of those were pitchers. Wonder when the last time that happened? Chris

Maybe some of those O's teams from the 70's and 80's did that too?

Oriole teams with the most All-Stars back to the mid-60's:
1969 -- 6
1970 -- 7
1971 -- 6
1972 -- 5
1997 -- 5
2013 -- 5
2016 -- 5
Ther are several with 4, including 2015's team.
Back when there were 2 All-Star games played, the O's put as many as 8 men, split between the 2 games, such as in 1961 and 1962 (4 different players on each of the 2 teams). -- Al

O's get a close win tonite, but what I'm excited about is the Dylan Bundy finally gets his chance as a starter this Sunday in Tampa, I have been pulling for this guy for 3 lonnnnnnnnng years, hopefully he stays healthy and can pitch well into the 2nd half, if it works out the O's will have a legit starter to help Tillman out...Sammy

I'd love to see Bundy do well. He had a rough start to the year in the pen, but he's been good for a while now and, lord knows, the O's need another starter. It would be great if he succeeds. -- Al

Strasburg went 8 innings of 3-hit ball to beat the Pirates 5-1. His record is now 13-0 and he becomes the first NL pitcher since 1912 to open a season 13-0 (Rube Marquard started 18-0 in 1912). Since 1961, only 5 pitchers have started 13-0; McNally, Guidry, Clemens, Scherzer, (all in the AL) and now Strasburg. I think the Nats are 28-2 over Strasburg's last 30 starts (Strasburg is 21-2 in those starts). Not a bad streak. -- Al

He is "must-see TV" as far as pitchers are concerned. When he is at his best he can embarrass even the best hitters.

Football is on hold for me until October, so it's back to baseball.

Red Sox beat the MFY's last night 5-3, hitting three home runs off of Pine/tar/ada in the process.

ARoid busted up the no hitter with a 12 foot base hit, then Beltroid busted up the shut out with a two run double, have to give him credit as he was toast last year, his "training regimen" in the off season must have been something else......................:rolleyes2:.............must have copied ARoids...........

O's beat Tampa 2-1 with what is about as deadly a pitching combination that exists in the majors at present. Tillman starts and wins his 13th with 7 innings of 1-run ball and then the best 8th inning man in the game, Brach, comes in to earn his 17th hold (with an ERA of 0.88) before turning it over to the best closer, Britton, who earned his 29th save and lowered his ERA to 0.68. Man, that is a deadly combination of pitchers. -- Al
