Wow!!!!!!!!!! so here's the kicker, working all day just caught a quick update headed to the car, O's down 7-1 late, I didn't even bother to check once I got home, matter of fact I was about to type my congrats post to Jason on his win but thought well let me check the final score, O's down 7-5 in the bottom of 8th, well let's just see how this plays out....^&grin^&grin^&grin my goodness Jason there is a saying in Baltimore from days gone by after a Oriole win "Ain't the beer cold"!!! see ya in Chicago^&grin

Seriously though, I wrote a post it seems weeks ago about this exact road swing (10 games against some good teams) and if we could just stay close the rest of August favors the O's schedule, the next 11-16 at home, after a much needed day off Boston comes to town for a quick 2 games with Tillman/Bundy to start, 3 teams seperated by 2 games, my goodness this race has been fun all Summer...Sammy

Sammy:

I was in the exact same boat, at 7-1 I left and ran some errands as I am traveling on Tuesday. When I got home and tuned on the TV I was shocked. I still am. That is the type of loss that can carry over and infect a whole season. I hope that they can shake it off.

And a bet is a bet, I owe you a round (or 2 after a win like that). Congrats on the series win and I will see you in Chicago.

Best,
Jason

Jason, it is a devastating way to lose a game, but it is only the one game and since LA got stomped, it is really a no-harm, no-foul loss. With Bochy in charge, he won't let them dwell on it and he'll have them focused on the next game. Nats lost in exactly the same way earlier this season, but Baker refocused them and the loss is now a distant memory. And don't forget, it is an even year.:wink2::smile2: -- Al

Zack Britton, the O's superb closer, hasn't allowed an earned run since April and his current streak of 39 straight games without allowing an earned run is a MLB record. Cy Young award will look good on his resume.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

I agree Jason, sometimes a certain series/or games can really make or break a season, those exact words come to mind after we lost 3 hard fought games last week to Oakland, 3-2, 2-1, 1-0{eek3} even though we killed them in game 4 I was worried about a carry over going into San Fran, luckily those losses didn't haunt them to long and were able to win the series against the Giants but that was a good series, both teams won a game each easily, then game 3 was just a strange set of circumstances that fell in the way of the O's favor, but as Al mentionedI'm sure the coach has enough talent/vets on the Giants not to dwell on it to long.

Don't worry about the drinks to much, a couple Bud Lights is fine with me as I hate hard liquor^&grin...Sammy

Great points all around. And just as the loss could be devastating to the Giants that type of win for the O's could really propel them. Besides, I hope the O's do well the rest of the way so we can get another shot at them in the World Series!

And there is nothing wrong with Bud Light! My days of drinking liquor are pretty much behind me too. Then again nowadays the only time that I do drink the heavy stuff is at toy soldier shows! Go figure.

Best,
Jason

Red Sox beat the LET'S GO O'S!!!! tonight 5-3 behind two home runs from Mookie Betts. Sox went up 3-0, then the bullpen imploded with a walk, infield hit, walk, single, strike out, single, walk and just like that, the game was tied.

Betts hit a two run bomb and the Sox closer held the lead, 5-3.............can't believe they actually beat the Orioles.......................

Syndergaard hit another bomb tonight, his third HR of the season. Let's hope they can win the game.

It's the dog days of August for the teams I keep an eye on. The Nats have been inconsistent since the break, going only 16-12, but their division lead has actually increased because the teams chasing them are also inconsistent. Miami has gone 15-16 and the Mets 13-18 in the same time span. Nats are in a good position but if Miami or the Mets catch fire they can still get back in the race because the Nats just can't get on a roll.
The O's have been only 15-16 since the break and are starting to lose ground although a little hot streak could put them right back on top. Their rivals have been playing good ball, if also a bit up and down, with Toronto at 17-12 and Boston going 17-14. No one has gotten hot enough to run off and hide so I rather suspect this will be a dogfight to the end, as the AL East tends to be.
SF has been the real surprise since the All-Star break, going a miserable 9-20 and falling to 2nd place. The Dodgers have caught them but not in a fashion that will finish the Giants. LA is only 15-12 which leaves plenty of room for SF to recover and get back on top if they can only right the ship a little bit. SF has the pitching to do it so I suspect this race is going to be a good one. I just don't see SF continuing to slump or the Dodgers suspect starting pitching holding up.
With 42-45 games still to go, only the Cubs seem to have a lock on a division title, but the Nats, Indians, and Rangers aren't in bad shape as far as leads go. Still plenty of baseball and plenty of races to be played out. -- Al

From you lips to God's ear! {eek3}

Al:

This is a great analysis.

As everyone here knows I am a huge Giants fan. But above that I am a huge baseball fan. This year has turned out to be very competitive and compelling. I am really looking forward to watching some great games in the coming weeks. It seems like most of us on this tread have a team that is still in it which makes the games all the more interesting to me.

Best,
Jason

Well unless the O's can pull another miracle out from thin air looks like the Sox take a 2 game sweep:mad: maybe the home cooking was a little off this time, either way down 2 games now to Toronto...Sammy

Man o' man did the Nats ever stink out the stadium in Colorado today, rather, Strasburg did. Strasburg is suddenly a disaster on the mound, losing his 3rd straight decision today. He's lasted a grand total of 11.2 innings in those 3 starts, giving up 24 hits and 19 runs. I hope it's just a little fatigue and not an injury of some sort, but he hasn't been the same pitcher since starting the season 13-0, going 2-4 in his last 6 starts, looking really bad in the 4 losses. Throw in a bullpen that still is inconsistent and there are problems on the horizon. -- Al

Red Sox up 8-1 in the middle of a monsoon, looks like a rain delay until midnight at the earliest.

It's an official game now in the top of the 7th, hoping they call it and move on...........................Bundy looked like Al Bundy tonight on the mound, Sandy Leon hit an absolute bomb that almost made it onto Eutaw Street, more like Utah Beach......................

Game over, Red Sox win, can't believe they won two in a row vs the Orioles.

Love the perpetual scowl Buck has on his face while in the dugout; he looks like he's stuck in a pillbox on the Russian Front...........................

In his post game press conference, Buck mentioned "we" let them know early in the process the game was called as they have to get out to Detroit for a day game tomorrow, so we kept it professional, something they don't always do when we're at their place"...........................{eek3}

Really; hate to break it to you Buck, but the umpires/MLB are the ones who make the call to cancel a game, not the teams, so I don't get the snarky comment?

He really has a hard on towards the Red Sox; must be carry over from when he managed the Yankees...................relax Buck, you've had their number since 2011, something like 32-66 since then, so dial it down a couple of notches..................:wink2:

Nats got embarrassed by the Rockies, rather, Strasburg did, but it was another 'no-harm, no-foul' loss as both the teams chasing them also lost. All it means is another game out of the way with no one gaining. Still, I'd like to see the Nats beating the teams that they should be beating and not giving up 12 runs, even if it was in Colorado... -- Al

Don't think you have to worry about the Mets "catching fire," not wih Niese part of the rotation. A disappointing way to open the West Coast trip.

Shocker alert!!!!!!!!! the O's have given Gausman 5 runs through 2 innings so far{eek3} that's like the most he has in the last 10 games combined when pitching. :)

Interesting you point that out, Sammy. On the pre-game show they made a point of the stat that Gausman had the lowest run support of any starting pitcher in MLB on a team that was over.500. I hope Gausman doesn't let this sudden bounty go to his head. - Al
