So, we come from Kentucky to Baltimore to see the Os play, and oh great, Tillman is pitching. Who promptly has the worst two innings of his career. Down 6-0 after two. Sheesh. Chris
Just your luck, Chris. You come to town to watch the O's and their pitching goes on vacation at the same time.:rolleyes2: At least you got to see Davis hit one out. Concentrate on the crabs and beer.:wink2: -- AlSo, we come from Kentucky to Baltimore to see the Os play, and oh great, Tillman is pitching. Who promptly has the worst two innings of his career. Well, the O's did marginally better tonight, holding the Astros to 12 runs in a 12-2 loss. Even better, only 12 of their 25 baserunners scored. Take that, Houston.:rolleyes2: -- AlGuess we have to look on the bright side...it only counts as one loss...the O's did stop the Astros from scoring in the 3rd and 8th...only 15 of the 23 Astros baserunners scored.:rolleyes2: Next. -- Al
So true. The one guy that has done his job as a starting pitcher, and now this. Not good. Maybe he needs a few days off but it's the wrong time of year for that. Sure hope it's not serious. -- AlThey held Tillman out of his scheduled start vs Price the other night, now tonight he throws a clunker and the word is his shoulder/arm/forearm/etc is acting up.
As Scooby Doo would say; Ruh Roh.................

Got a decent start from Gallardo but it wasn't enough. What a disaster this weekend was. The starting pitching is just inadequate. Tillman seems to be having a down swing or arm problems, either way, as he goes, so go the O's. Gausman shows promise but is inconsistent. Bundy is good but I see a innings count problem for him. Gallardo is on the edge, either ok or a wreck. There is no #5. The pitching is just too thin and it is now starting to cost them. -- AlCheck please!!! as we roll into late August the O's made work of a decent road trip and had a golden opportunity to make a serious move in the East coming back for a extended home stand, they made a move alright....probably their worst ball of the year, lose 2-0 series to Boston then the God fearing Houston Astros roll in to B-more and absolutely put a asss whipping on them I'm sure they won't forget, I know I won't, so now 2.5 back and sliding fast, just unreal, not jumping off the ship but certainly looking for the life rafts at this point, just glad George didn't take that friendly wager a few weeks back on the O's/Sox series in September...Sammy
The bullpen cost the Nats again, 4 innings and 3 runs, losing the game to Atlanta. A rough stretch for the bullpen to be sure. Don't know how they will fix it but they have to do something. -- AlNats beat Atlanta 11-9, after leading 10-3. Once again the suddenly porous Nats bullpen got beaten up in what has become a worrying trend. The bullpen is not doing the job and continues to be the chink in the ballclub's armor. In their last 18.2 innings, the bullpen has yielded 19 hits and 13 runs. Sure hope it gets worked out before the playoffs, as the Nats have come to grief in the postseason because of bullpen failures. -- Al

Too bad someone had to lose this game. Beautifully pitched by both teams. Thor was outstanding and showed no trace of arm weariness. Enjoyed this game. -- AlAfter watching the disaster of the O's and the bad effort by the Nats this weekend, it's a pleasure to watch the current pitching match-up in SF tonight. Thor vs Samardzija are 0-0 after 6. Great game. -- Al
P.S. - Mets now lead 2-0 in the 7th.
If you all sign Pimplebum, don't let him near your best player. His nickname on the Nats was 'the DC strangler'.:rolleyes2: -- AlThe problem with baseball today is there just is not enough good pitching out there to fill MLB rotations and bullpens.
How many teams have a very good rotation, a very good bullpen and a lights out closer? Maybe two? How many teams have a very good rotation? Maybe four? There just aren't 300 or so quality arms to stock these teams.
Look at the Red Sox and the Orioles; both teams can mash with the best of them, very good offenses, both mediocre pitching staffs, the Orioles have the far better bullpen, the Red Sox have a bit better starting rotation.
The other night, the Sox were up 3-1 in the 7th inning, the starter comes out, in comes the reliever; single, double, single, game tied 3-3, then in comes another reliever, walk, walk, single, lead gone, game over, a total dumpster fire of a bullpen. And their closer is a high wire act everytime.
Sports talk radio has been buzzing about bringing Papelbon back; imagine this guy being viewed as some sort of savior?
Are you kidding me?

I saw the 30/30 show about the two of them. It was sad but Strawberry at least came to terms with it and appears to be on top of it. Gooden apparently never has been able to get away from it. It is a shame as both were huge talents cut short. -- AlAl, hopefully it's not serious but the Nationals have a 9 game lead on the Marlins so you should be ok.
Matz has shoulder strain and rotator cuff inflamation so I assume they'll shut him down for some period of time. They're running out of bodies. You can never have too much pitching.
Darryl Strawberry sent out a distress call on Dwight Gooden over the weekend. He believes that Gooden is deep in cocaine addiction and that unless some intervention takes place, Gooden will die. Gooden replied today (looking frail), rejecting the plea for help and refusing to say whether he has a cocaine problem. Gooden recently missed two fan appearances.
