Baseball Hot Stove League 2016-2017 (1 Viewer)

The LET'S GO O'S!! have won more games than any other team in the last five years; did I read that right?

I hope not because if that is true, what a wasted opportunity.

Why they haven't traded for or signed an ace is beyond my comprehension.

It's absolutely true George, a couple wildcard teams, 1 division title, is about all to show for it :( as far as a Ace on the mound don't even get me started, you would think someone by now would realize you can't HR your way to a WS title, so once again in 2017 we'll swing for the fences win a decent amount of games but come Oct. the O's fans will be deep in the Ravens schedule....unless Gausman, Tillman, Bundy and another starter yet to be named all have great numbers then who knows??? bullpen is stout again so I guess we'll play 162 and see what happens.

It's really a shame as they have a very talented line up, I learned the hard way as a kid in the 70's you need pitching to go with the hitting.......................The Red Sox have won 3 WS titles since 2004 thanks to pitching and timely hitting................

Nats window is big time closing so they better move on it this year. Too many uncertainty's after this season and one huge uncertainty at closer this season. Still can't believe this hasn't been addressed. -- Al

Al:

Some of their pitching contracts are ridiculous. The Nats as an organization will be hand-cuffed in the near future by those deals, so winning now is a must.

O's no. 1 pitcher Tillman now looks to be possibly on the DL to start the season ^&confuse not the way I wanted 2017 to start for my boys.

The same thing might be happening to Zack Wheeler. He had Tommy John in 2015. He was supposed to come back in July of last year but they kept pushing it back and shut him down. He had a bullpen session yesterday and felt elbow pain so they're slowing him down. It doesn't look good.

As a baseball fan I hate to see all of these injuries and it seems like the pitching injuries are everywhere. Alex Reyes, a top pitching prospect for the Cardinals might need Tommy John surgery. I remember him as he pitched a brilliant game against the Giants last season. He has superstar written all over him.

Yeah, ESPN is reporting TJ surgery is assured and Reyes will be out the whole year, as is usual with the surgery. As for the O's Tillman, the hope is that his shoulder is a temporary set-back and he should be ready to go in mid-April. -- Al

Mets brass think it might be scar tissue causing Wheeler some pain and still remain optimistic. They are concerned about injuries to all their starters and have limited workouts and throwing between starts.

But what worries me with Tillman AL, is this was suppose to be a non issue after the off season with rest, now it comes to light he's out until April??? just hoping you're right and he has no lingering effects from this injury, now with only Bundy, Gausman that starting pitching is looking pretty weak.

Come on, Sammy. The O's still have uBADo and Miley to plug into the starting pitching. What, me worry?:rolleyes2:{sm2} -- Al

Oh my God...don't even joke about those 2!!! Better be averaging 6-7 homeruns a game at this point.

Here's hoping that Wheeler is ok. It is probably worth noting that the Mets were decimated by pitching injuries last year yet they still made the playoffs. Their coaching staff deserves a lot of credit. They are battle tested when it comes to a patch work pitching staff. You hope that you never need that kind of knowledge/experience, but it is nice to have just in case.

O's pitcher Brad Brach became the first O's player to win an arbitration hearing against the O's in 22 years, receiving $3.05 million instead of the O's offer of $2.525 million. The last O's player to win in arbitration had been pitcher Ben McDonald in 1995. -- Al

That was an amazing run of arbitration wins by the O's.

Nats have signed former O's catcher Matt Wieters for 2 years at $21 million. Sorry to see the O's let him go as I don't think they can adequately replace him, but glad to see him go to the Nats, who lost All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos to Tampa Bay. Wieters should be a good bat for the Nats. I just don't get why the O's let him go. -- Al

Al:

The Nats are now set at catcher with Wieters and Derek Norris as starters and a top catching prospect in Pedro Severino.

Jason, the Nats also have Jose Lobaton, an established back-up who has been with the Nats for a while. One thing for sure, the Nats won't break camp with 4 catchers on the roster. 1 or 2 of the above mentioned are going to be disappointed. -- Al

That is a nice problem to have, you can't have too many solid catchers!
