I thought I would start a second thread based on Bastion Models "A" range of sets which covers the period of 1890 to World War I. You might recognize that Bastion set A.1 is a duplicate of the Steadfast sets SF7 and SF7A. The only difference is that Steadfast figures have a higher, hollow base.

A.1 ROYAL ENGINEERS HOME SERVICE A working party pf the 1890s, with assorted implements, wearing 'grey-black' shirts, while their officer wears R.E. undress uniform.

A.2 ROYAL ENGINEERS FOREIGN SERVICE A similar group to A.1 , but dressed for overseas service in India or the Boer War.

A.3 GRENADIER GUARDS 1895 An officer and men of the premier Foot Guards Regiment in Full Dress Guard Order as worn for Guard Mounting at the Royal Palaces.

A.4 SCOTS GUARDS EGYPT 1882 The Third Regiment of Foot Guards are depecterd in the uniform worn during the campaign to restore the authority of the Khedive of Egypt, culminating in the battle of Tel-El-Kebir.

A.5 The SUFFOLK REGIMENT IN ACTION 1900 The Suffolks wear their red castle badge on their foreign service helmet with the standard khaki uniforms and Slade Wallace equipment of the Boer War.

A.6 THE RIFLE BRIGADE IN ACTION Similar to the above set, these men wear the black leather equipment and buttons worn only by Rifle regiments.

BTW, I do know how to spell "Bastion" but I am having trouble with my keyboard which seems to drop certain letters including the letter "s." The edit feature will only allow me to change the text and not the title for some reason. Oh, well...

I editied the title for you. Great looking sets! I see Bastion from time to time on ebay but not in the numbers I would like. Some really cool looking action sets.

Thanks for posting

Thank you, Dave. Would you mind also editing the title on my other Bastion post for the Boxer Rebellion. There is no "s" on Models. Thanks again.

Bastion is out of production is it not ?

As I stated on my other Bastion thread for the Boxer Rebellion, I believe that Andrew Rose is still producing them via an arrangement with P & B Castings and/or Dorset. The last address I had for him was 36, St. Mary's Road, Liss, Hampshire GU33 7AH, UK. I am not aware of any U.S. dealer who carries them.

The Bastion brochure I have stops at set A.27, however, I have the catalog descriptions for seven more sets. I know that there are others, because I saw them on eBay in the past. Also, note the unusual subject matter of various women's units.

A.28 WOMEN'S ARMY AUXILIARY CORPS 1917 As a consequence of the terrible drain on manpower, the W.A.A.C. was formed to take over various non-combatant tasks and release more men for the Western Front. Later re-titled Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps, officers were known as 'officials,' N.C.O.s 'forewomen' and other ranks 'workers.'

A.29 WOMEN'S ROYAL NAVAL SERVICE 1918 As with the W.A.A.C., the 'Wrens' took over domestic clerical and driving duties in the Royal Navy.

A.30 WOMEN'S ROYAL AIR FORCE 1918 The W.R.A.F. was formed at the same time as the RAF on 1st April 1918. W.A.A.C.s had served with the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service, and continued to wear their former uniforms until the khaki ones depicted became available.

A.31 AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY STANDING FIRING 1915 In their distinctive Service Dress and slouch hats, these troops are typical of the Australians who landed at Gallipoli in 1915.

A.32 AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY CHARGING 1915 Like A.31, this set represents the Australians who fought against the Turks in the Dardenelles, and the Germans on the Western Front.

A.33 TURKISH INFANTRY FIRING 1915 Recently re-equipped and organised by German advisers, these Turks are commanded by a senior officer distinguished by his fur hat and red collar.

A.34 TURKISH INFANTRY AT THE READY 1915 The Turkish soldiers proved to be a tough and resouceful fighter, eventually forcing the Allies to relinquish their tenuous hold on the Dardenelles.

I found a telephone number for Andrew Rose on the Bill Hocker web site reference section. It is 011-44-1730-894478.

If you want I'll give him a ring in the morning to find out if he is still producing Bastion Models and the availability of them.

Jeff,

Thanks, that would be great. 4th Hussar, on post #4, inquired as to whether Bastion Models were still being produced, but I would also like a definitive answer, too. Maybe Andrew Rose has an updated catalog list/sales brochure we could get a hold of. If there is one, I would pay for the postage if you could send it to me.

I tried phoning, but this number belongs to an elderly lady who could not shed any light on Andrew Rose. Sorry.

Thanks for trying. I wonder if anyone has seen him as a vendor at any of the recent U.K. shows?

I wonder if Giles Brown of Dorset knows whether Bastion is still producing. Dorset had some sort of production arrangement with Bastion at one time. Does anyone of the Forum know Giles?

Hi Mike

I had a chat with Giles this morning and then with Andrew Rose this evening. Andrew is still producing Bastion sets and would be more than happy to hear from collectors, his email is bastionmodels@tiscali.co.uk

Cheers

Martyn:)
