Bastion Models 1890 - World War I Range Catalog (3 Viewers)

Hi Mike

I had a chat with Giles this morning and then with Andrew Rose this evening. Andrew is still producing Bastion sets and would be more than happy to hear from collectors, his email is bastionmodels@tiscali.co.uk

Cheers

Martyn:)

Dear Martyn,

Recently, there was a Bastion Models set on eBay. It was not numbered by the person who listed it, but it was the Z.A.R.P.S. Boer Police. I have no idea what that stands for, but I will check it out when I get a chance.

Hi Michael,

Yes indeed they are similar because Andrew Rose was the man behind both lines. If you look at the first post you will also see that some early Steadfast sets were also done by Andrew Rose and are duplicated in the Bastion Models line. I can't remember the exact details, but Wessex was a line by Rose which was produced for him by someone else. Maybe PB Castings or Dorset? But in any case, they are the same except for the box labels. I believe that Wessex was a smaller line than Bastion and focused on maybe just two or three campaigns (e.g., Zulu War, India, etc.).

I just spotted another Bastion Models set on eBay. It is a set of the Roman XX Legion, but it is not numbered. There are two extra figures (10 versus the normal 8 figures) being offered, but they all appear to be by Andrew Rose.

There is a Bastion set on eBay that was not previously listed on the earlier posts. It is A.35 World War I German Infantry in action wearing Stahlhelms.

Did anyone from this line of posts ever manage to make contact with Andrew Rose from Bastion Models? I have tried both the phone number and email address, but no luck. Would love to find more Bastions but don't know if Rose is still making them.

Not that I am aware of. Given the fact that it has been five weeks since you asked the question and no one has responded, I am assuming that the answer is no for them also. In addition, for the past couple of years, no one has mentioned Andrew Rose has having attended any of the toy soldier shows held in the U.K. Maybe he has retired.

I'm not sure if this helps - but offer it anyway.

John Eden Studios now owns a considerable number of moulds - and produces castings from them, originally produced by Andrew Rose. These include figures from both World wars and Romans - so may well be worth a look.

I'm not sure whether these would have originally been marketed as "Bastion Models" - but at least they will have been originally produced by Andrew's hand. If anyone is looking for something specific - the website (http://www.johnedenstudios.com/page6.htm) may well be worth a look - as they are all illustrated there - and can be ordered as castings.

I can confirm that they do paint up beautifully. Johnnybach

This Bastion Models set, which I recently saw on eBay, is from the American Civil War. It is a set of CSA LOUISIANA TIGERS in action. I must admit that I was not aware before now that Andrew Rose had made any sets from this conflict. I wonder if there is a different numbering system (i.e., not A or B) for this line? The seller did not indicate a set number in the description.

I contacted the eBay seller asking if there was a set number for the Louisiana Tigers---there is none.

Here are two photos that I posted on another thread under dioramas which I thought should logically also go here. They are sets A.18 Belgian Infantry, 1914; A.21 Austrian Infantry, 1914; and A.9 Fusiliers Marins, 1900 as I have them displayed.

Al,

Thank you for your kind offer. I have a catalog/brochure which I posted in the first three posts of this thread. If you have a different one, I would love to have it. Thanks.

Here are two photos of Bastion Models set A.28 WOMENS ARMY AUXILLARY CORPS, 1917 which recently appeared on eBay.
