Where do i get birds (not planes :)) in scale 1/30 - 1/35?

Not the flying ones, but the ones to put in trees.

Heinrich - You might want to contact a store that specializes in miniature doll houses and accessories. Often they will carry a miniature line of animals and pets including birds.

Check the model train stores.

Depending on what type of birds you need you may find them there.

For example an eagle in 1:87 scale could be a sparrow in 1:32 with a coat of paint.

Hi Mike & The Farmer!

I have checked on railways and housedolls - without the result i wanted!

I have found some seaguls on Ebay, but they are 1/24! Do you think they will work?

You might want to consider sculpting them, too. A bird at rest is a relatively simple shape to work with, so if you've never sculpted, it would be good practice to get familiar with the process.

Prost!

Brad!

Have thought about it and it might end up this way! :)

John!

An interesting site all though the avaliable birds are limited! ;)

Thank you both!

You should try it, definitely!

Here are some pics from a work in progress on my bench:

When finished, this will be a goose dinner in the hands of a hungry dragoon. It's a simple armature of aluminum wire, covered in Sculpey, and fine copper wire for the legs.

It's very satisfying, to do this piece, and it's been educational.

Prost!

Hi Brad!

Great work. I´m impressed! :) Why don´t you make a couple more, and send them to Denmark? :D

Thanks, Heinrich! It's easier than I thought, considering that I hesitated for the longest time to try, like standing at the edge of the pool because you're afraid the water is too cold. But eventually, I'd like to sculpt a 54mm figure, so I took the plunge.

This will be finished in traditional toy soldier style, so I'm trying more for the shape than for a lot of detail. But it is relatively simple to get started, and from there, it's practice, practice, practice! Just like anything else :D

The pics are from an SBS that I'll post in the painting forum, when I've finished (that seems to work better for me than to post after each step-just look at my 3 Rose cuirassiers :( )

Anyway, I urge you to try, just get some Miliput or some Sculpey, you've got nothing to lose ;)

Prost!

Took the words right out of my mouth. They would be easy to sculpt. One could use fimo clay.

I needed a couple of carrions hovering over a pile of sawn off limbs for a dio of a ACW Union field hospital-couldn't at the time find a single supplier of birds at either 54 or 60mm scale. The old Britains lead birds-if you can find any-are way to big.

I ended up sculpting a couple of crows myself just sitting on a fence waiting to swoop down on the gore-turned out to be real easy. Pictures attached.

Really nice touch there, Bob. Couple of nice looking birds that add great detail to the overall scene. I really like this surgeon character too. Another one of your unique pieces. :)

UKReb......You sure have great idea's to make a diorama life like.....thanks for sharing...I really like your civil war dioramas you would think they were taken from a real battle field.....Thanks again.

GREAT dio mate good to see some blood and guts in dio,s much more realistic WAR is a bloody business.

Historex do a couple of sets of farm animals, cats, dogs, hens etc which include a few birds. The best set is NAC003 but NAC001 also has some. They are all 54mm scale.
