Bloody Tarawa (2 Viewers)

Thanks Sammy...Remember to stop by Room 4301 and say hello!
All the best, Andy.

I most certainly shall!!! I'll miss the K&C dinner as my flight arrives around 5 on Friday, but I'll certainly be roaming the halls all day and night for those 3 days!!! :):)

P.S. Andy... will you be bringing any of David's dioramas built for K&C to the show??

Thanks Sammy,
Re a couple of points...There is no K&C Dinner so, don't worry, you won't be missing anything!
Generally speaking, we don't bring our joint collaboration with David's dioramas to the States...Just too BIG!!!
However we hope to have one in London for the December Show.
See you soon, Andy.

I saw the Tarawa figures today in Andy's room and they're very good. I was so impressed that I purchased four of them from Minuteman Toy Soldiers. They appear to be very popular.

Andy said that he thinks the Marines from the Iwo Jima second series would go well with these new ones.

I have to go take a look at these at the HK shop next week while picking up other stuff for friends and myself.

Fingers cross they are in the local TS shop for my visit on Saturday and I get a chance to see them in the hand.

I had a look at the Marines today and I like them. I've been really impressed by the Japanese that have been coming out over the last year too. I've been mixing them in with my TG Japanese (as they attack my TG Australians) and it gives a great mix of greens and browns (with a smattering of reds and whites from the flags). Having read close to 100 memoirs (marines and US army) about the Pacific War, I'm really happy to see some great figures coming through!

Great looking figures, would have liked to see some Aussies in the advertised new K & C Pacific series, but very few of them at Tarawa, same as Iwo Jima. As the song says, "You can't always get what you want".

This is a K&C series that really interests me, probably from all the John Wayne films that were on TV as a kid !
Looking at the great diorama they've done and reading some of the posts I see that the LVT 2 they are using is one made under licence by BMC from their originals.
Since I missed out on the Iwo series this seems like a great alternative. Obviously it'll need painting, so can anyone point me towards what was the paint schemes for Marine amtracs were.
From b&w photos I can't tell what the colours were and other than the grey K&C have done. I would assume that olive green would be present, which I intend to paint mine when it arrives.
But what about camouflaged ones would they be about and if so what pattern. Be great if someone can come up with an answer and link. Links to colour photos even better, but I suppose I'm pushing asking that !

The old marines meet the new boys. There are 12 years between each other but they are matched very well with each other!

After a longgggggggggg day I finally got to see the Tarawa sets in hand and they are good or better then advertised, I'm not a big Pacific collector but I'm thinking that may change.

Thanks for posting these close ups Harrie and to all those who have given feedback thus far. I must say the price on these bad boys is also very attractive and must commend Andy and the K&C team for managing to do that, it does make a difference.:salute::

Cheers Toddy

Todd,

Cheers Mark, got a real soft spot for the Marines, my grandfather who served got to mix and mingle with quite a few stationed here in Auckland during WW2, but sadly most were killed on Guadalcanal. I only learned recently he used to have a diary with all their contact details in it, but none returned and he never spoke of them again after the war.

I have inherited some Marine kit though and now the proud owner of a Marine Corp bayonet and canteen.:salute::

PS. hope those horses are behaving too?{eek3}

And ordered from HK shop, which will be shipped to Sgp next Tuesday. They are nice reinforcements to my IWJs.

A few pictures of me Tarawa diorama in progress.
More palm trees are under way and I hope to see more Marines with The King & Country releases for October?
We can also use some new Japanese soldiers in action. to fight The Leathernecks.

Looks great Harrie and thanks for showing some stages during the making of your diorama, it will be very useful.

Fantastic figures and scene.

Just to be a "bummer": there were NO LVT(A)1 at Tarawa, tey came later - partly in response to the lessons of Tarawa.

Factually true Gary...But our 'Tarawa' Marines can be used in a multiple of settings...Peleleu...Saipan...Okinawa...Iwo Jima...or even Korea, if the collector wishes, along with that Alligator.
We produced the LVT (A)1 partly because K&C had never produced it before and partly because it's a really cool vehicle! It's appearance in the 'Tarawa' diorama was a way to promote its upcoming release and not an attempt to subvert real history...That's part of the appeal of toy soldiers, which these are, just occasionally you get to play with a little 'historic license'!
In Chicago we had literally hundreds of collectors looking and admiring Gordon's 'Tarawa' beach landing. No one I can recall reeled back in horror at seeing our 'Alligator' included among a 'Tarawa' diorama...Most of what was said was 'When will it be available to buy..?'
Best wishes, Andy.
