Bored Tonight...Post a Diorama, LOL (1 Viewer)

Wow, really impressive. What materials did you use to reporduce the stone bridge itself? I am tempted to beg off work and come to the show to meet you guys and see the bridge, but I just can't get away this weekend.

Thanks Louis for the compliment....I used a thick foam and carved out the stone look. Everything I build is scratch built and one of a kind. The steel beams and lamp posts are hand made also. Underneath the bridge there are three small lamps and beams which you can't see in the photos. If you can get away that would be nice to meet you.......

Oh, c'mon you know you want to go :D What if you missed out on a warbird or some Zulus?

I wish I could, but deadlines are deadlines. Brad, I hope you grab any warbirds you happen across, but if you see one you already have, buy it for me and I'll reimburse you. If I already have it, I'll give it to Tim Tyler at the next symposium.

I understand completely. I just finished marking up an agreement. One down, two more to go. I should get so lucky and find a warbird.

Hey guys, you don't have to spend all day at the show. Drink a lot of black espresso coffee before the show and then you will be able to see everything their..LOL

WOW, NICK GREAT BRIDGE!!!
How long did it take you to do that one? I was thinking of tring to make it to the show also but i,m not sure yet. I,ll see if my mother will watch the kids and do a map quest to see what kind of ride i,m looking at. It sounds like a great show from what I hear and it would be nice to meet up with some of the forum members.

Thanks fishhead....Hope to see you at the show.....I don't know how long it took me to create that stone bridge. I don't have a system when I work. I do plan things out but I don't have a step by step method like most do. I create as if I am using oil paints on canvas, always changing and re-working until it comes out the way I like it. That's why I can't show how (on the forum), I make my buildings from start to finish....And that's the story....
Thanks again.......I hope my babble made sense.

Yes that babble made a lot of sense to me, its the same way with me when I build something, a little work here and there and it changes as I go along, so I know just what you mean.

I,m thinking of going to the show and just might see you tomorrow.

I'm glad I made sense....Hope to meet you. Will you be wearing a hat with a fish on it? Just kidding.....
Take care,

Nick

Regards,

Thanks Shannon, I'm glad you like and appreciate my work. I enjoy posting my work and getting feedback from the forum members. In a couple of hours I will be at the Hackensack NJ show and hopefully will get to meet some of the members. That's pretty cool!

Take care,

Nick

Once again great work. Can you describe some of the tools you use and technique used to carve?

Thanks gooch. I have many different dental type tools and many small curved files plus fine sandpaper......Square stone is cut with a razor and the stone work is made with the pointed dental tool and then the sandpaper follows. I hope that helps you out.

1/32 Nebelwerfer with NMA figure. I know the guy shouldn't be standing there but it was for size reference. :)

Hey guys, I'n new here but I want to start building my own war scene, I was thinking WWII. It would be built on a piece of wood around the size of your average door (unless your rich and have oversized doors). So I was wondering what scale to use? Also, should I make some of the buildings myself or should I buy them ready made? And what about the soldiers, painted or not so i can paint them myself? Please tell me what you think, because I don't want this to turn out rubbish! Cheers, brayshaw_17. One last point, how long does it usually take to complete these? I would expect a year or 2?

I guess first you would need to decide what scale do you want then what kind of a budget you plan to use. You can buy the buildings which will be quick or build them yourself which will take a while. The one below is made from pink foam.
