Brisbane Collectors Dinner (2 Viewers)

Jack has covered the event well in his first post. The College was an excellent venue.

However he forgot to mention it was mainly his effort that made this more than just a dinner with Andy of K&C. It was his idea to hold the dinner at the school and who got school approval to use the Museum and secured good funding for the display cases. He also co-ordinated Wayne, Bob (and his son Elliot), Phil, and later Glenn to help with the diorama making over a 6 month period. Jack also had his Dad working behind the scenes on aircraft kits to enhance the displays. His better half is being put to work for next year. Again it was him who arranged most of the function (setting up the tables, drinks, menu (with Barneywomble), the Priest and service, wreath laying, bagpiper and Highland dancers etc).

Credit should also go to the diorama makers who created such great displays using their own figures, aircraft and vehicles. Unfortunately there is one photo we missed and that was just before the dinner when the Museum was packed with people admiring their work.

Thanks to those who attended, particularly those who travelled from interstate and NZ.

I would like to thank Andy from K&C for coming down to Australia for the sixth year and for taking the time to meet collectors and talk about his business and the hobby with them. It was much appreciated.

It was interesting to hear Andy mention about the school in Hong Kong which his daughter attends and that they learn about Ghandi, Martin Luther King and Mandela but not Churchill. This was the same I experienced with my two children in Australian schools. It seems the military history we in the hobby enjoy is being covered less and less by schools. Well at least Nudgee College now has a great teaching aid as Jack has put up information panels around the Museum dioramas telling the WWI story and the role of Nudgee Old Boys in it.

It will be interesting to see what dioramas they come up with next year !

Thanks to all who participated.

All I can say is " You Lucky Devils". Good company, good food, good conversation with friends, what else do you need ?
guy:)

Looks like it was a great event. Wish I could have been there. I've never been to Australia, but one day I'd like to travel "down under".

Man, that's interesting (about the deletion of Churchill in history). When I was a kid we learned about all them dudes...FDR, Uncle Joe, Churchill, Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo. Plus, we learned about the Queen, JFK, MLK, LBJ, Nixon, Truman, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, MacArthur, Ghandi, Vietnam, the 50's, the 60's AND then a healthy dose of Texas History as well. Lots and Lots about segregation and racism...Bull Connor and Governor Wallace. Tons on the JFK assassination then the Cold War and all that was in grade school.

Heck, my little ones were studying MLK in Kindergarden. I wonder why the shift?

Anywho, maybe a thread for another day.

Great show guys! Bunch of chorizo thieves...

Looking at all the pictures of the collective of all those fine gentlemen, yourself included, the one thing that springs to mind is the lack of a 'King and County' Tie.

Can you image the photos if all were correctly attired Kind and County Tie; the individual would be bound together as the cohorts!

Cheers
