Britains Durbar Question (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the info Pat,

Can't understand why there seems to be no info (web wise) on this readily available.
They do make for some nice looking figures though.

Hi All,

I too have been digging through all sorts of websites and my information at the house and have come up with very little except for the bit on Kutch being really swampy. But it would be fun to see these fellows with spears and swords fighting with the guys on the backs of the elephants. I will keep digging and if I can find anything one this subject i will post it.

All the best

Dave

Gentle Friends,

For many years, it has been my understanding that the stilted warriors were trained to do battle with the enemy who occupied the Howdahs on the backs of the elephants. The stilts placed the warriors at approximately the same height as the enemy who were riding the elephants. The stilted warriors did not actually do battle with the large elephants. Rather, they fought those who rode the elephants.

Unfortunately, I cannot refer you to any specific documentation of my understanding. If anyone discovers documentation of a different function for the stilts, please let me know.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Thankyou Pat! You and I can rest on our respective Laurels:p

Hi KV,

Very nice indeed! I have them but you know where they are, the wifes stash. I will have to be extra good this year so I get them for Christmas.

Are the two guard/attendents Hocker or your own castings?

Have a great evening

Dave

Very Nice KV Very nice!

I think they go quite well with the Curzons.

Amphitheater is here! It is Ginormous!!

Hi Vamp,

Your Dias is beautiful! Did I tell you I also have one coming? Same source, same price! I can hardly wait for it to arrive! I don't know where I am going to put it, but I can hardly wait for it to arrive! :D :D

Congratulations on your new acquisition!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Pat, I was in London Bridge today. Ron said he had sold another Durbar amphitheater. He's a good guy to deal with. You'd love his store. It's like stepping back in time to an old time toy store.

Hi Jrsteel,

I talked with Ron on the telephone yesterday afternoon. Clearly, he is an extremely nice, helpful, and knowledgeble guy. He told me that if I could ever get to his location in Pennslyvania, he would turn me loose in his shop and I could see what treasures I could find! Talk about being a kid in a toy store! I may hold him to that promise some day! :D

And,...the guy he sold another amphitheater to was me!!!! :) :)

The next time you see Ron, give him my regards and tell him you know the fellow that most recently purchased an amphitheater! No doubt, I will be a repeat customer!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi Guys,

I told you it was big! Its a really great set up for a fantastic display! I am glad you all were able to find them for a good price.
