Britains Durbar Question (1 Viewer)

Hi Pat,

It always great to hear about another person like me who from time to time has the computer doing its impression of a paper weight.

I can also relate because my parents reside in a place refered to as radio h---. Where all mannor of communications from smoke signals to email seem to vanish as if they entered the twilight zone. Their dial up is so slow... repeat after me How Slow is it? It soooo slow that I thought my 5 year old was married with kids when it finally opened. Can Time really stand still in these places or am I over reacting here?

I couldnt even look at the Tree Frog Site with budgeting at least an hour just to get the computer warmed up. Kind of felt like Radar yelling into the hand set of the field phone HELLO SPARKY!!!!!! :D

Of course my kids just love it when dad gets all spun up over what should be a simple thing like sending an email, I guess its good to be entertaining for your children right?

They also think its really funny when dad starts to mumble incoeherently about cyberspace and cell phones, so to say I can relate would be an understatement.

All the best

Dave

Dave,

Smoke signals? Now why didn't I think of that! :D

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

I have a set of lawyer book cases that I use for a display and I think I am going to check out the Bombay Company's curios that Louis mentioned in one of his posts they sound very nice and are affordable and not to mention durable and not all glass which I dont like for a lot of reasons.

Dave,

Here is the link to a Bombay one, looks nice, maybe a mirror could be added at the back to give it more depth.

Thanks for the link Hugh. They look nice but too tall for what I am looking for. However I will let you all know if I stumble across anything of interest.

All the best

Hi Guys

I got the camera out today and was fooling around with it and took some pictures of the Durbar Parade around my office so I thought I should share.

All the best

Dave

And another one...

I will edit some of the others so we can chat.

Dave

Dave,

I had forgotten what nice pieces this series had. Would go well with some of the vintage Britains, such as Bengal Lancers and Skinners Horse.v:)

Hi Hugh,

Yes they would go very well together. I have a pretty nice combination of Britains, Marlborough and a few other makers like Shamus Wade, I really hope the folks at Britains will bring back the Durbar series and add some of the units they didnt do. There are some really interesting units that have not been done by them so they could add a couple of sets or another Elephant or two or even a large band to the line up and have plenty of other things to offer the WWII collectors. Do you have any of this series or are you mainly focused on another era?

Have a great day and I will post some more shots later today.

All the best

Dave

Hi Dave,

As I have said before, I really admire your great Durbar collection. I always fight a touch of envy when I see your collection. And,...I really look forward to seeing the rest of your pictures. Thanks for posting them. They are a treat to see!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Dave,

I have several questions I forgot to ask in my last post. In the first picture of frame #27, you display an elephant. To whom does this elephant belong and what company manufactured it - Marlborough?

Secondly, you display an ox drawn coach in the first picture of frame #28. What is this set, who manufactured it, and who is the royalty within the coach?

All your sets are beautiful. I wish I had some of them to go with my collection!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Dave,

I don't have any Deli Durbar, but would like to get them in future. Right now, I'm trying to decide what series to focus on. I'll probably wait until the new catalogue comes out and then decide.

I checked that UK toymart site you mentioned, lots of retired Britains sets available there. Heavy premium though.

Hi Hugh,

Yes that Toymart site is pricey but it is an option other than ebay. I know there is a similar set up in the South Pacific but they have the catch of not allowing anyone from out of that region to participate so you would need an itermediary to conduct any business. But that aside there seem to be very few places where Britains sets or singles are available. I have to say that I will be very glad when the folks at the club get their site squared away and maybe there will be a place there where people can post items for sale like they do with the standard.

All the best

Dave

Hi Pat,

The sets are both from Marlborough. The elephant is set number D-3 The Viceregal Party It is Lord Curzon and his wife. They are being escorted by Britains Elephant Guard set #8957.

The other set is D-16 The Princess from Baroda in a Bullock Carriage. The two camels in front of her are Shamus Wade figures that I am researching to see if they were sold in a set or as individuals (which is how I aquired them)

I will post some more pictures later.

All the best

Dave

Dave have you ever heard of Nickolson Soldiers out of Ohio? I came across they're website the other day. They have some really nice Indian Army sets and I think they're from the 1903 Durbar period.

Dave - I really enjoyed reading your posts and looking at your images. When I first got into metal toy soldiers about 6-7 years ago , I bought a few Durbar sets from Wm. Britain. I purchased Sivler Baroda's Gun, Mounted Officer and Crew and a few other sets over the years. Well for Christmas my wife purchased a Beau Geste Patiala Elephant and some native followers the Patiala Akali. I going to start again building my parade. Boy, the Beau Geste stuff is nice, but pricey. Anyone else like the Beau Geste stuff? I wanted to get your thoughts too. Once agian nice collection. Very impressive. Greg
