Britains Durbar Question (1 Viewer)

Ah the Hunting Cheetahs...one of my favorite sets of Britains Delhi Durbar.

Dave - I really enjoyed reading your posts and looking at your images. When I first got into metal toy soldiers about 6-7 years ago , I bought a few Durbar sets from Wm. Britain. I purchased Sivler Baroda's Gun, Mounted Officer and Crew and a few other sets over the years. Well for Christmas my wife purchased a Beau Geste Patiala Elephant and some native followers the Patiala Akali. I going to start again building my parade. Boy, the Beau Geste stuff is nice, but pricey. Anyone else like the Beau Geste stuff? I wanted to get your thoughts too. Once agian nice collection. Very impressive. Greg

Hi Showman,

I love the Beau Geste Durbar stuff. Because of the pricey nature of the figures, I only have a few sets. As I am able, I will be adding more to my Beau Geste collection.

With Dave's encouragement, information, and inspiration, I have been adding Britains and Marlborough sets to my Durbar collection. My Durbar collection is no where near as extensive as Dave's, but I am working on it!

It is nice to know that several of us are interested in the Durbar figures. Thanks for posting your note and letting us know more about your collection!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi JrSteel,

I have heard of the Nickolson Line and will probably pick some up one of these days they are nice looking sets and arent priced to break the bank. Which is always a positive thing.

Leadman thanks for posting the link! Saves a lot of hunting around on the internet looking for sites.

All the best

Dave

Hi Greg,

The Beau Geste line is stunning! I dont own any yet but I hope to change that situation this year. I have discussed them at depth with Wadepat since he has a couple of sets too. They look wonderful and I think would be great additions to my collection but they are pricy so it will be a while before I can swing some. I am however also on the hunt for 2 more sets from the Britains line and when I get those I'll be able to focus on some of the other companies out there. I have a nice chunk of the Marlborough line and I have a smattering of others, but one of the things I am doing is not duplicating the sets from Marlborough with the Britains I already have since they are the center on the series for me.

Also here are a few more pictures.

All the best

Nice pics of the Indian Army. Thanks for posting. Had some trouble getting Nickolsons pics up to view. They might only have it set for microsoft. I get some but not others. Leadmen

Hi Leadman,

I went to their site and was able to open a few of the pictures but their software is definately weird it kept trying to do something with my clipboard so backed out of there I dont know if they are having an issue or if its merely a crummy program.

Anyway

They do have some nice sets and I will see if I can get a cateloge from them. I would like to look a little deeper at their offerings.

All the best

John and Dave,

I had the same experience with this website. I received several messages indicating that the site wanted access to my clipboard, so I quickly withdrew from it. I had never encountered such messages before.

Hi Pat,

I experienced the same thing so I am not sure if they have a hacker issue or what the problem is. Hope you are snug and warm out that way since this seems to be the month of storm after storm.

Any new sets to discuss or have you seen any good ones on ebay? I watched the last auction from Vectis and could not believe how high the prices went for their last few sales of Marlborough and Britains sets. One lot with an Elephant in it went for nearly 700 bucks.

Hope all is well out your way.

All the best

Dave

I had the same problem with Nichols website. My son said it is poorly designed and has flaws. At least I know it was not just me having trouble. Leadmen

Hi Dave,

Yes, we are warm, as long as we stay inside. We received another 6-7 inches of snow last night. Frankly, I am ready for Spring, even if I have to mow the yard every week!

The only thing I have been able to add to my Durbar collection lately is the Britains set of 24th (The Duchess of Connaught's Own) Baluchistan Infantry, set #40182. I was able to obtain it new, in the box, for a fair price (not a steal). I have my eye on a Marlborough set right now, but only time will tell if I succeed in acquiring it. I'll let you know if I am able to add it to my collection.

I am also gratified that a couple of other collectors have come forward to indicate their interest in the Durbar figures/sets. It is really nice to know that we are not the only ones who enjoy these figures!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi John,

It sounds like we all had trouble with that website. Have you ever made any purchases via that website? If so, did the transactions operate smoothly?

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Dave , once again I have enjoyed your pics of the Durbar.

Someone mentioned cost. Some sets are reasonable, infantry and cavalry sets and the civilians are your best bet. The elephants are another story. I have often thought of taking shleich plastic elephants for conversion. If I do it I will post a pic or two.

Just went on Nickolsons and had no problems at all. I did notice that I ahd to click twice on something I wanted to see. But that is activex for you. They have nice Indian stuff at reasonable prices. The good news is that it is made in the US! Perhaps a set or two is in order. Put my money where my mouth is:)

K-V,

Did you get any messages indicating that the site wanted to access your clipboard?

Pat: I never ordered from him. I know he has been in business for many years. The Nov.2006 TS&MF magazine has an article about his business. I might order some Schleich Indian elephants from Hobby Bunker. My friend made rider molds and he made a carriage (Howdah?) also. I have not seen it yet but sounds like an interesting project. Also, I might get some figures and a tiger from soldier-pac castings. Hope you are staying warm. John

Hi John,

Thanks for responding to my question. I had forgotten about the article in TS&MF magazine. I will review the article in my copy of the magazine.

Yes, I am staying warm,...provided I stay indoors! I grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast where it never snows. As a child, I always wished for snow as it seemed like it would be so much fun. Now, after living in Kansas for 39 years, I have seen all the snow I care to see. :D

I hope that you, too, are staying nice and warm!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi Guys,

With the move it appears that most of the pictures were deleted so I am going to repost a bunch of photos of the Durbar display.

So here is the first set.

All the best

Dave
