Hi KV,

Those are a portion of the Mounted Band of the 17th Bengal Lancers from Marlborough. I have the rest of the unit but due to space considerations right now I am only putting out 1/3 of the display. I am working on some shelving and other ideas so I hope to put some more sets out soon.

All the best

Dave

Dave.

This display of yours is just what collecting glossy figures is all about. My compliments.

Jeff

Dave that's a beautiful display. How many Durbar figures do you have and when did you start collecting them?

Hi Jrsteel,

I have about 50 sets or partial sets on display with several other sets waiting in my wifes stash of good husband prizes, (thats what happens when she intercepts the mail), I am short 2 sets from WBritains original 36 set Durbar display and will try and get them this year and I have been working on Marlboroughs offerings which are extensive (over 200 sets). I also have three figures from Shamus Wade and a couple of figures from unknown makers. I also display several Indian Army series sets since they are correct to the time and would have been there.

I have been working on this series for a while I picked up several Indian Army sets in 99 and really got into the Durbar when I found my first Elephant in 01 so I guess I got into it more seriously then. I really love the wide variety of units and the colors of the dress uniforms, I bet it was amazing to watch.

One day I hope to be able to display the entire set which will require a table all its own.

All the best

Dave

Hi Guys,

I thought I would post a few more shots so here they are.

Hi Guys,

I really love the last few sets I posted especially the Warriors on Stilts for Marlborough which are so unusual. The great thing is I have actually seen photos of these troops at the Durbar. I cant even imagine what it was like to take part in this parade. I've marched in my share of big parades while I was in the Army but nothing on the scale of this. I wonder what 35,000 Bandsmen sounded like. Anyway I look forward to discussing these soldiers.

All the best

Hi Guys,

One of the figures I have been trying to ID has the name DC Stewart Stamped on the base. It a Skinners Horse Mounted Sergeant. Anyone have any information on this company?

I'll try and post a picture later

All the best

Dave

Dave, I really enjoyed the Stilted Warriors. My Dad has some Marlborough Durbar stuff. Not the stilted guys though. Maybe I'll see some at the West Coaster.

Dave or Anyone Else Who May Know:

I have a question concerning W. Britains Delhi Durbar set #08957 - Ceremonial Guard for the State Elephant. The 1999 and 2000 Britains catalogs show this set as a companion to set #08956 - Duke and Duchess of Connought on State Elephant. So far, so good. Now here is my question:

On the information you (Dave) posted earlier which lists the Britains Durbar sets produced from 1997 through 2004, you indicate that two of these Ceremonial Guard sets are required for a complete display. What is the proper placement of the second set of Guards? Does it go with Set #40184 - The Maharajah of Bikanir's State Elephant? In short, to be correct, where should this second set be placed in the procession?

Thanks for all your help!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi Pat,

Thats a good question. The answer is: They should be displayed with the Imperial Elephants which are 08848 and 08946.

They should be considered Indian Army versions of the Yeoman of the Guard and were provided to "guard" the Viceroy and the Duke and Duchess of Connaught who were there as the represetatives of the King Emperor Edward VII.

Hope this helps.

Dave,

Is there a typo in the above? Do you mean sets #08848 and #08956 (rather than 08946)? Please let me know if I am correct about a typo in the above.

I really appreciate the answer to my question. Now, all I have to do is find and secure the Imperial Elephant (08848)! :D Well, I also have to find and secure the Imperial Guard sets. Well,...at any rate,...I know what goes with what now! :)

Thanks for all your help!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi Pat,

Sorry about the typo you are correct I hit the wrong number. I guess I am tired from a long day running errends for my lovely wife. ;)

Also there is a set of the guards on ebay right now I saw them earlier and they had a good opening price. I have also seen a couple of the Elephants in the past few months and I will let you know if I come across any others that are going for a good price.

Dave,

Thanks! I always appreciate your assistance!

I am also glad that I noticed your typo or I would have been looking through reference after reference hunting for the non-existent Durbar set #08946! :D

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

You bet Pat,

I am sure someone else would have pointed out the error before too long. Sent you a couple of emails tonight hope they help.

All the best

Dave
