Martyn,

The 1995 catalogue I have shows the Fields of War as FW1. A later one shows the set deleted/discontinued. Did Trophy redo the set and reissue them? If so, do you know when it was reissued as FW5? Thanks.

All the best,
Lawrence

Dave,
Many Thanks for taking the time and making the list as it is a wonderful aid for the Trophy Collector. I will do some research as well and see what other sets need to be added . Off the top of my head, I know there were the Ladder Sets and the Dragon Gun came in two versions. A minor point of clarification, there is a typo with one of the HTH sets which should have the last one listed as HB3. Otherwise, a great beginning and kudos to you for making the initial effort. All the best, Lawrence

Here is a bit more info

B15,B16 and B16A are the 1st Sikh INFANTRY REGIMENT (Punjab Frontier Force) together with the 7th Rajputs

and

BS48 ROYAL WELCH FUSILIERS (2 CASUALTIES)

Martyn, if BS15 + BS16 were both 1st Sikh Regiment, were the 7th Rajputs a variant (hence BS15V + BS16V), or were both regiments mixed in the same sets?

Lawrence, the Dragon Gun came in many variants over the years. I believe someone posted a battery of Dragon Guns on an older thread, and they were all painted differently.

I didn't include A,B,+C suffixes because usually they denote new moulds and not new sets, from what I've found.

Once again, thanks for the help, guys.

Dave

Hi Dave

Sorry I don't have any more info, here is the quote from the 1991 catalogue word for word :

"B15,B16 and B16A are the 1st Sikh INFANTRY REGIMENT (Punjab Frontier Force) together with the 7th Rajputs. They were the first British contingent to enter Peking"

Martyn,

Went through my 1995 catalogue and found this photo of Boxer set FW1 - Boxer Rebellion. I also noticed Trophy used the same set number for Zulu - Battle Diarama, and Northwest Frontier - Battle Debris. Both sets are photographed in the catalogue. I believe one was made for the Sudan/Egypt campaign as well, though I do not have a catalogue photo or set designation to back it up. A fellow collector purchased a large collection of Egypt/Sudan which has a similar set and I will photograph it when I get a chance. Also, Tommy Allison mentioned he had a similar set for the Boer War. Hope this clarifies things a little bit.

Thanks for the quote, Martyn. I'm guessing that BS16A is the Rajput variant of BS16. The Rajputs were the first of the relief units into the Legations.

One thing that bothers me about TD9 is that it includes a Chasseur d'Afrique, and there were no Chasseurs in the Legation Quarter during the siege. Maybe I'm just being a history nazi, but . . .

Lawrence, I've noted some typos in catalogs. "FW1" may just be a typo. If not, I'm not adding it to the list, because FW5 was eventual code for the same set.

Some units that I'd like to see listed are Italian sailors for the Legations and PeiTang Cathedral and H.M. 1st Chinese Regiment (the Wei-Hai-Wei Regiment) for the Relief Column. I saw some Gurkhas in Tommy Allison's Boxer display, but they had green bases, so they are probably from a different series.

hi martyn, did you happen to know the color of the uniforms on the bs15,bs16 and bs16a? i have a few sets of indian infantry with different color variations and am wondering if some of these might be boxer related

Dear Hawkeye,

Are the bases of your Indian soldiers painted grey and have a cobblestone pattern? That's always a good hint that the soldiers belong to the Boxer line.

I would love to help further but the info in my catalogue is pretty basic, no uniform colours I'm afraid

Well off the top of my head i know i have a firing set with red tunics and blue pants on green bases. A firing set of grayish tan tunics and pants with white turbins that are either on tan or grey bases, a mixed set of firing and advancing with tan tunic and blue pants on tan bases , a set of firing with tan tunics and pants on tan bases and the last set have green tunics a turbins with red pants on green bases. It sounds like i might be out of luck. If anybody knows what series any of these go to let me know. I am sorry i have no pictures at this time.

Your first set listed may be the 38th Bengal Infantry of "The Indian Army" Series. Sets two and three I don't know and set four may be the 127th Baluch Light Infantry of the "Indian Army" series. One and four are not listed as part of the "Boxer" series as far as I know. I yield to those of you with better knowledge and catalogues.

Tommy, awesome collection, i got to see some figures that i have not even seen a picture of like some of the wa88 hussars and there was even a scottish napoleonic officer mounted in a blue jacket and a couple of highland flagbearers with white tops. Which units were these from? As for my indian boxer sets, i do have some with grey bases after all but they do not have cobblestone or bricks etched into them. I have 10 indians with orangey tannish tops and a little lighter pants with the same color turbins and then i have a real cool ste of 6 with light to medium brown jackets and lighter pants with blue leggings and turbins that are 3/4 white and 1/4th blue. Hopefully they are from the boxer series. Heck i just need to get some pictures of them up. I do know tommy that they are not the ones in your setup. The question is were all grey bases for the boxer series?

Hawkeye: You are going to get a kick out of this answer. The early Boxer trophy bases did not have the etched tiles. I bought the scottish mounted figure in the blue tunic and the three in white tunics from Mike as singles. I have never seen any others but they are Indian Munity. Since I don't have any of that to speak of; hence their present location. All of my boxer sets have grey bases. I will try to track down your other figures.

Actually, Tommy and Hawkeye, from what I've found, and I hope you can see it in the Trophy scale thread, the early Boxer soldiers had rectangular bases with cobblestones and the middle period soldiers had smooth rectangular bases. With the later Boxer soldiers, Len reintroduced the cobblestones on the oblong bases. Here are some reposts:

View attachment 38912

The soldier on the left is an early Boxer U.S. Marine. Notice the rectangular base with cobblestones. On the right is a Boxer U.S. Marine from the middle period. Notice the huskier, more robust physique which we normally associate with Trophy of Wales. The base is still rectangular, but the cobblestones have been removed from the pattern. Hawkeye, your Boxer Indian troops probably come from this Mid-'90's period.

Crop45.jpg

The sailor on the left is an early Austro-Hungarian Sailor. He has the rectangular, cobblestoned base. The sailor on the right is from the late period. He has the huskier "Trophy" build and an oblong gray base, and the cobblestones have returned.

Gents, I hope this has helped.

Dave
