On the afternoon of May 2nd, 1863, 30,000 Confederates under the command of Stonewall Jackson slammed into the exposed flank of the Union Army west of Chancellorsville, namely the XI Corps under the command of Howard................

Absolute fantastic diorama George, if the toy soldier business ever fails you could get a job at the local museums setting up table displays!! of course Chancellorsville has a special story there for my side of the family, my 3 time great Grandfather earned his Corporal strips there after the battle for the 55th Virginia...Sammy

Howard's XI Corps fought back behind breastworks and redoubts............................

Wow, a vista of formations! Looking fwd to more views. Curious to see if you have some figs of the various leaders. I have one of Lee, don't know if there are others. I'm currently half way thru John Bigelow's 1910 "Chancellorsville Campaign." How did you know George? :wink2: Love the wig wag station. Chris

The Union line began to collapse under the onslaught, XIth Corps began to give way.............

Overall, I'm pleased with this one and the way it came together. It's been in the works for about five years, which was when I first visited the Chancellorsville battlefield. They've got a great series of panels that describe the fighting in the area, the union fieldworks and gun positions and where the flank attack punched through the Union line........................this one is 12 feet by 6 feet, the largest layout I've ever done.....................

Thanks for the kind words Sammy, I enjoy planning and setting these up quite a bit, the viewing part is great for me as well, glad you like it.

Must be cool to be able to trace family history back to this conflict...................
