Once again very nicely staged, photograph and shared Michael. It's always a pleasure to see how you provide us with photos of your new additions to your JJ collection............PapaZ{bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}}

I got mine yesterday. My favorite of this months releases. The black coat really stands out amongst the Brits. My only regret here is that John didn't stage this with Hughes saving the British colours as he was alleged to have done. That would have been an interesting scene to depict.

Excellent dio Mike!! Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

As have mentioned before, the simplest dioramas are sometimes the BEST. This is a perfect example of what I mean. Really good story, dio and photos!

I'm not a F&I buff so I had to look up Chaplain Hughes...

http://www.tedtoy.com/jenkins_club.htm

"Philip Hughes was officially listed as the Chaplain for the 44th Regiment of foot, during the Braddock expedition. Little is known about him, apart from: “In 1755, Philip Hughes earned some distinction amid the chaotic defeat of General Braddock’s army on the Monongahela river, rescuing the colours of the 44th Regiment despite being wounded in the battle.”

The following is an extract of a letter from Fort Cumberland, dated July 23, which appears
in The Public Advertiser, October 31, 1755:

“I believe I am the first Chaplain who ever saved a Pair of Colours, which
I took within fifty Yards of the Cannon, when the Enemy were Masters of
them. The French and Indians crept about in small Parties so that the
fire was quite around us, and in all the Time I never saw one, nor could I
on Enquiry find any one who saw ten together. The Loss killed and wounded
864. The French had 2,000 men, besides Indians, we had six Indians, and
they at least as many hundred, We marched near 400 Miles in three Months,
cut 350 thro’ Woods, for the last 200 saw no House but this dirty Fort.
Rum 20’s a Gallon, the worst brown sugar 4s 6d a Pound, a Year old Calf
sold to Sir Peter Halket and our Mess at 3.*.(* - a pound sign I assume.
It looks like a capital L in cursive) after the 25th of June a Dollar for
a Pint of Rum, so you may judge of our Distress. The whole Country is a Wood.” "

Nice set of figures!

What a great little set. I recently set mine up in a small vignette with the Washington figure standing by watching over them. Will try to get out some photos later this week

Not a Protestant...

...what is the Chaplain doing for the Grenadier?

Like the shots Michael!

I got a couple of this set. Very unique in that you don't see many men of the cloth portrayed in this era. Great story as well.

Great picture of a very poignant scene that you have created Michael :salute:::salute:::salute::

Cheers

Martyn:)

thanks all of y'all for the kind words...yes these figures make a great set and I do sorely miss creating the dioramas and taking the pictures like I used to for the monthly releases...but the truth is...I think...JJD seems to be moving away from the 7 Years War and into WWI and the Spanish Civil War much stronger...there seems to be fewer and fewer releases for my collections lately and more planes, tanks and vehicles for the new series he has started...

I'm really still hoping that we will see more St. Francis...I dunno...maybe not...

I'm still hoping for more Jacobites too...

but I think he's pretty much a "one man show" on the sculpting...and anything he does monthly for the "mechanized series"...takes time away from stuff he would have been doing that I collect...so...as he releases more of Condor and WWI...I see less of the other stuff that I want....

as he develops the WWI and Condor Legion...and as Snow Shoes and Monongahela are finished...it has taken a large bite out of my FIW monthly spending...

the last couple of months I have only bought one or two sets per month...I used to buy 6-9 sets monthly...very often...more than that...I'm not collecting planes and tanks...so my spending has dropped off to almost nothing...

perhaps the last few months are an anomoly...with more pieces for Condor and WWI than FIW...I know JJ has been anxious to expand and explore creating different things...I don't blame him...he must be bored with Indians...

I'm anxiously awaiting more St. Francis...more 1812...and more Jacobites...hopefully...there is a lot of stuff coming out soon...

From New England 18th century history there were a number of "fighting parsons" in the militia units in the F&I War and War of Independence. The Jenkins figure could be "renamed" to fit the scene as the clothing could "work" for the 1770s as well.

There seems to be a lot more to be done for St. Francis and Carillion Mike so I would just keep that money on hand.
