Collector's Showcase: see and believe (4 Viewers)

Looks great, I just ordered Band of Brothers.

That looks like it's gonna be a classic. It's about time that the Pacific War and it's veterans get some recognition. When does it start?

Well sometime in 2010. It does appear interesting and that team does great stuff for sure. I don't get the CS title of forum link though.

Shhhh Bill, I think it's part of their cunning plan to influence Brian into making some Pacific sets ;)

Bill,i think Stryker is trying to encourage CS to venture into the Pacific, and maybe this series will do it!

Superb film, raised the bar for War movies in my view.Really brought home the Horror the young men went through so we could be free.

The Battle scenes i've seen so far from The Pacific look stunning, can't wait for the deluxe dvd set!

There is an extended version? What is extended and by how much? Is it worth replacing the original version? -- lancer

So wait a second; what you're saying is a series will be coming out in 2010 on HBO focusing on the Pacific?

Really?

Man, this is the first I've heard of this.

You know what would be a great idea?

A toy soldier manufacturer should look into doing a series of figures based on the Pacific; Marines, Japanese, Aussies, Chindits, Ghurkhas, etc, etc.

What do you guys think?

Warrior: I thought most everyone had heard about it by now, but since you didn't here, is the story. After SPR and BOB came out, Hanks and Spielberg and thier prodution company literally received THOUSANDS of complaints fro all the men and women who served in the pacific--primarily the Marine Corps. They felt, and rightfully so, that THIER exploits and battles were ignored especially from Ryan.

As time passed, the complaints were becoming stronger and also the message was being broadcast all over the place--WHAT ABOUT US? Finally, Spielberg and Hanks listened, and about 2-3 years ago, decided to do them justice. Filming began in Australia and the end result was completed earlier this year I think.

They held a news conferance, admitted they had neglected the pacific warriors, but felt that this series was the fnest, most costly one ever done and would be "the finest military series ever made by them or anyone else" from Tom Hanks.

The series will center around three real life Marines: Robert Leckie, "Manilla John Basilone ", a congressional medal of honor winner on Guadalcanal, and I can't remember the third one, but you can always hit the internet and type in Pacific HBO series, which I will do after this message to find out who the third one is. The battle scenes alone will rival anything from Band of Brothers or Ryan, and as a 10 part series, will cover alot of the Pacific war. At least 2 or three islands will be invaded opening with Guadalcanal, (no cammo gear in the trailer to later campaigns Peleliu and Iwo, where Basilone was killed.

Everything that I have seen and read about is saying that extreme measures were used to get the proper equipment and uniforms correct and "just right". A Marine Vet of WWII should be proud of this gigantic effort to show in Feb......Stryker

Warrior: the third Marine is Eugene Sledge on which the story centers.

Like I said, go to HBO THE PACIFIC series and see many great photos of this fantastic series.

I agree--we need MORE FIGURES!!!!!!..................Stryker
