I am definitely looking forward to their September 14th match-up. If they win that one I will be a believer too.
 
Another weekend of mostly cupcake games. Only two top twenty five matchups. The picks:

Georgia 30 South Carolina 27 - The Bulldogs looked good even in losing to Clemson. I don't think they lose twice in a row and they are playing at home.

Michigan 24 ND 20 - The Irish are overdue to drop one. Michigan gets it done at home.

Oklahoma 40 WVA 17 - WVA struggled at home against William & Mary last week. That's not a good sign before playing OK.

Texas 37 BYU 20 - BYU was beaten by a weak UVA team last week. They play decent defense but that's not enough against a top twenty team.
 
My Vols did it again and trounced West Kentucky 54 to 20 I think it was. 2-0. GO VOLS!
 
Good day for my local teams as UMd goes 2-0 (although it has been against patsies) and Navy wins it's opener against Indiana. Navy wings are made of gold!^&grin -- Al

Lane Kiffin should be available soon if anyone needs a coach to run their program into the ground. One of the worst offensive performances that I have ever seen. The fans at SC are ready to tar and feather him.
 
Northwestern looked amazing against Syracuse and is 2-0 against fairly good competition. Now for two patsies (this week it's W. Michigan, a late replacement for Vanderbilt who chickened out after we beat them last year and paid to break the contract) before the major game on Oct 5th at home against Ohio State. Who ever thought Northwestern would be in a place of looking forward to that!?
 
Stat of the day about yesterday's games from Yahoo Sports:

For the first time since Sept. 11, 1976, Texas, USC, Florida and Notre Dame all lost on the same day.

I think they would all be considered upsets as well. I had a hunch that Michigan might take the Irish, but the others were playing teams they should have demolished. The longest pass completion for USC in the entire game was something like 8 yards! And they have, arguably, the best WR in all college football. Kiffin acts as the play caller, though, which explains a lot. He is toast. I wouldn't be surprised if they fire him this week or next. Mack Brown in Texas is also a short timer. He keeps firing his assistant coaches to buy some time, but that can only work so long.

Not sure what Kiffin is being paid but Brown gets $5 mil a year. With 2 kids currently attending UT I want a refund!
 
A much better slate of games this week. Time for the picks (only Texas has let me down so far):

Alabama 31 Texas A&M 27. The hype machine will be in overdrive. CBS is going to have a camera on Johnny Halftime throughout the game. Even when he is standing on the sidelines. Too many distractions from that dimwit for A&M to win this year. The Bama D looks vulnerable, but just too much talent on the field.

USC 24 Boston College 13. Following up on the disasterous loss last weekend, SC will rebound and save Kiff's job for at least one more week.

UCLA 30 Nebraska 17. The Bruins are quietly putting together a good team under Mora. A great young QB.

Oregon 49 Tennessee 17. No more Austin Peay's for the Vols. They get run off the field in Eugene. Sorry Flyboy. Hopefully I jinxed the Ducks by picking them though.

Im also taking Arizona State over Wisconsin 24-20. This win pushes ASU into the top 25!!!

Was going to watch some of the Air Force - Boise St. game until I turned it on and saw a blue football field. Note to Boise St.: Football fields are GREEN because grass is GREEN. The sky is blue, the oceans are blue. Heck, I've even seen blue eyes, but football fields are GREEN. Please address this travesty ASAP. -- Al

I would say that Army can beat the spread (which is 30) but I doubt they can beat Stanford. 30 is a ton of points and Army deserves way more credit than they get.

ASU is favored by 5.5 over Wisconsin, I like that and if I were a gambling man I would say that ASU covers that.

Besides the 'Bama v. A&M game, I think that UCLA v. Nebraska is another worth watching.
