College Football 2017 (4 Viewers)

The whole strength of schedule debate loses out when you look at Central Florida. They have the 5th ranked strength of schedule, are 9-0 and yet they are ranked 14th in the latest poll.

I can't muster any hate towards Dabo................he delivered the eulogy at Kevin Turner's funeral, the former Alabama running back who played for the Patriots and Eagles and died from ALS, Dabo and he went to Alabama, Dabo recruited Kevin's son to Clemson, which drove Kevin bananas, but he laughed it off, he was on the national championship team, plus the way he handled the loss to Syracuse was class all the way, went into the Syracuse locker room to congratulate the Syracuse players for the way they played.

He goes a little nuts on the sidelines, but his heart is in the right place...........:wink2:

Not saying he doesn't do good things, but 1. he is at Clemson and 2. he is at Clemson. 3. His locker room dance. 4. He is at Clemson.....................

And 5. a grown man has a name like Dabo.

He can thank his older brother Tripp for that, who kept trying to call him "That boy" but it sounded like "Dabo", so the name stuck.

I like the guy, he's everything that's right about college football, so sue me.

We need to come up with one for you ^&grin

I will be routing for Miami, perish the thought! At least Mark Richt is the coach, former offensive architect for Bobby Bowden.

Still no line on Alabama vs. Mercer (for entertainment purposes only)?

Mercer lost to Auburn a few weeks ago, 24 - 10. The Dawgs lost worse than that.

Probably not enough data for the bookies to be comfortable setting the spread.

Richt was most recently the Head football coach at the University of Georgia.

Stanford beat Cal in the 120th version of the Big Game.

All is right in my college football world.

Lost day for my teams. Navy lost a close game to heavily favored Notre Dame, just as the Terps lost a close game to favored MSU, both games by 7 points. Terp game played in terrible weather, rain and snow squalls. Better luck next time. -- Al

Turns out Mercer WANTED Bama the way Custer WANTED Indians. Bama scored TDs on their first five possessions. They would have counted even in flag football since no one on the Mercer D was within 20 yards of the ball carrier. Then Saban brought in the backups and coasted to a 56-0 win to avoid criticism of piling on. Bama could easily have won by a hundred points in this game if their starters played more than one quarter. I can understand Mercer wanting a big paycheck but these types of games should be prohibited or they should result in a major penalty in the playoff standings to discourage them. They are not competitive contests but a way to pad the schedule with an easy W.

No one gives Bama any credit for this win. It might as well be a scrimmage. It most likely functions as such to help the Tide prep for the Iron Bowl.

Do you really think Bama is hiding behind a weak schedule full of patsies? They do play in the SEC, in case you’ve forgotten.

With the SEC Championship game and the football playoffs added to the schedule, a good college team can plays upwards of 14 or more games. Perhaps it makes sense to rest these young bodies a bit during the season so they can live to fight another day.

Yes, that is exactly what they are doing in this instance. Let me try again. Bama is an SEC team. They MUST play other SEC teams. They have no choice but to play good SEC teams. What they have a choice over is their non-conference schedule. When Bama plays a team like Mercer that is an automatic W that reduces the number of - wait for it - non-conference opponents they must beat to go undefeated. They and many other SEC teams also play seven or eight home games. That gives them an enormous advantage over teams that are competing for the college football playoff but don't pull this nonsense. One game can be huge. And if that game is a non-competitive game against Mercer while other teams are playing competitive games then that is a huge advantage. Bama is a great team and they do have a tough road in the SEC. But that is not an excuse to play Mercer. Every top team has a difficult road to going undefeated. But most do not play these types of games. USC has, for example, never in over a hundred years of playing college football played a FCS school like Bama does every year.

Great logic: Second or third hardest schedule year in and year out, but inexcusable not to make it harder!

Bama plays harder teams at the beginning when traditional logic said start easy. It was Saban who added tough early season games. So, they have an easy game later in the season since they traditionally played an extra game compared to other conferences (I know other conferences are adding championship games but SEC was alone for a while.) I am totally OK with that. Their record speaks for itself.

In OVER one hundred years USC has NEVER played a less qualified opponent? Pshaw.

To date the combined conference record of Alabama's SEC opponents is 16-34. They are the only team in the top four that has not beaten a top 10 opponent.

While I do like Alabama I can't help but feel that they don't deserve to be Number 1 in the polls.

Well, they’ll have to beat Auburn and Ga to have a chance at the National title. If they’re frauds, those two games, plus at least one playoff game, should out them.

They have a difficult road for sure, and the games against Auburn and UGA will certainly determine where they end up.

However, I am talking about what they have done to date.

PS-This may sound strange (and not to look past Auburn) but I think 'Bama vs. UGA would be an epic SEC Championship game.
