College Football 2017 (3 Viewers)

Auburn is history. I'm sure George is relishing it. Al, your brother is a big Alabama fan, I recall. He, too, must be enjoying this game.

Alabama has very little chance of getting in; it will be Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia and Wisconsin............if Clemson loses, Alabama has a shot, if Wisconsin loses, Ohio State will get in, which I don't get as they'd have two losses, both of which were blow outs and it took a miracle for them to beat Penn State.

Alabama/Clemson part 3 would be what the network wants, but I don't see it shaking out that way.

Looks like all three of these games are going to be blow outs.

Wisconsin is getting murdered by a combination of ****ty tackling and lights out speed from OSU.

So it will come down to whether a two loss OSU team will get in over a one loss Alabama team.

They will win their conference, so I'd say yes.

It’s been 30+ years since Herschel Walker roamed the grid iron tween the hedges that Dawg fans had anything to get excited about. That was fun tonight. Some solace, perhaps, after the Falcons debacle in the SB. It was about time UGA came to play.

Alabama got in, so it's Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia and Alabama afterall.

Wow, should be a fun ride, I've got two dogs in this fight now, but won't be upset if either of the other two teams win it.

They made the right choice with Bama getting in. Wisconsin was a pretender and OSU was just too inconsistent, some good wins but 2 bad losses. The Bama/Clemson and OU/UGa matchups should be classics. Looking forward to them. And oh yeah, thanks to Bama being chosen, I have taken the suicide watch off my younger brother...for a while.:wink2: -- Al

The NCAA finally got the football playoff right, I'm just glad they did not go to an 8 team format. The semi final games the past few years have been non competitive blow outs, we don't need two more of those then two on top of that to get to a competitive final match up. Four is plenty; can't wait for this.........................

I agree but it highlights the importance of Bama's late season cupcake game against hapless Mercer. A non-competitive game in which there is zero chance Bama can lose. Every game counts in the college playoff system with a razor narrow path. I think this year is the most solid group of playoff teams ever. Each team has a chance to win it.

Should be interesting games, I hope they are good ones, hate to see blowouts this time of year unless it is FSU doing the blowing out! Speaking of that, what a mess in Tallahassee, in a way, sad to see Jimbo go, but from what I understand now, he was never satisfied and A&M had the money to lure him away. In the end, I guess it is onward. We had to reschedule the cupcake game in order to become bowl eligible................... I was surprised they didn't bump Wake Forest from their bowl game and insert FSU in the Belk Bowl due to the money factor. In a way, glad they didn't, FSU doesn't deserve a larger game and hopefully they will actually beat Southern Miss to end this awful season. Back to Jimbo, certainly seemed to have a world class defense at times and I blame coaching on the absolute unpreparedness at QB. I understand Winston may have hurt recruiting for a time since he had the spot locked up, but there was absolutely no back up plan for the number 1 getting hurt this year. Jimbo had all year to groom that QB and he still looks like a deer in headlights making stupid mistakes. He cost us at least 2 games on his own. Maybe it is good riddance Jimbo!

I thought the USC = Stanford game was one of the most exciting of the weekend. How about Stanford not kicking the FG and USC stopping them, great game.

No college football coach is worth $75 million. You have to question the priorities of any educational institution that would pay that type of money for a coach. And it is the height of stupidity to pay that kind of money when FSU had such a terrible season. Coaches also tend to burn out. So it was a great decision by FSU to let Jimbo go. Bring in some new blood and reboot. A&M will get a few decent seasons and then be stuck with paying Jimbo millions to go away in a couple of years. An awful hire. Arkansas - a state university in a dirt poor state - has to pay their coach $12 million to leave. I can't see how it is lawful for a state university to sign a contract like that. Even if money is given to a state university for sports it would seemingly belong to the tax payers of that state once it is in the coffers of the university. How they have the authority to pay a state employee tens of millions boggles the mind.

Of high interest, of course, is the Music City Bowl, of which U Kentucky has played numerous times (can it be their perpetual 6-6 record with the occasional 7-5 sprinkled in?). I have little doubt the Northwestern Wildcats, 9-3, with 7 wins in their last 7 games will whip their Kentucky Wildcat cousins, 7-5, and 1-4 (with three blow outs) in their last 5 games. Chris

Good, old-fashioned slogging match between Army/Navy in Philly so far today. Navy leads 10-7 at half. Navy has gone 1-2 in passing (for 2 yards), while Army is 0-0. Each have run the ball 24 times, Navy for 170 yards, Army for 109. Did I mention it is being played in a snow storm? Army is wearing all white from head to toe, making it very difficult to see the players from any distance. I'm sure camo is against the rules. Second half starts in a sec and I expect more of the same, a head-banging running match. -- Al

As is fitting for a game played under these conditions, it came down to the last play, a Navy FG attempt from 48 yards which was no good by a foot left and Army wins 14-13. Great game and congratulations to both teams for a stupendous effort and to Army for their win. -- Al

A good hardfought match. Glad I didn't have to sit in the stands.

I'm sure it was a great game for a great rivalry; they usually are. But I came in late to it, and missed all but last 5 minutes. I was feeling good watching Navy maneuver for a field goal while the clock was counting down - right up to those 2 illegal motion penalties. The difference between a 38 yd try as opposed to a 48 yard try is tough enough, but under the weather conditions today, it's daunting. And oh the pain of Army now having a 2 game victory string. Ouch!:redface2::(

It was a painful loss but Navy, as you point out, did themselves in with those 2 penalties. Rough way to lose for a team that year in and year out ranks as one of the least penalized teams in college football. That Navy kicker was good and probably had that kick nailed had it been 38 instead of 48 yards. It was a great effort under those conditions. Anyway, Navy still leads the rivalry 60-51-7. Go Navy! -- Al

Al:

As I have admitted in the past I watch way too much college football.

With that being said, that was probably one of the best games I have ever seen.

Jason, I know I've said it before but despite what can be huge mismatchs, college football is a much more enjoyable game, to me, than the NFL. This especially holds true watching the service academies. The Army/Navy game is my absolute favorite sporting event of the year, bar none, and I try to never miss it. I believe I have only missed watching it once or twice since the early 60's. Anchors aweigh! ^&grin -- Al

Just watched one of the more remarkable bowl games I've ever seen. Army beat SDSU 42-35 in the Armed Forces Bowl. It was an old-fashioned running game, a total of 121 offensive plays (only 13 passing plays) and a total of 727 offensive yards (695 yards rushing). The really remarkable thing was the ball-control by Army, which ran 91 plays (87 rushing for 440 yards) compared to SDSU and their 30 total plays. I don't know for sure but I think Army must have had the ball for about 50 minutes. It is Army's 10th win of the season, only the second 10 win season in their history. Congrats Army, a fine job of ground-pounding if ever there was one.:salute:: -- Al
