College Football 2017 (2 Viewers)

Yeah, he's a great kicker, coke bottle glasses and porn mustache included, not to mention he false started on the OT field goal, no call.

Guess the refs figured Georgia has suffered enough football heartache the past year or so.

What are you talking about regarding the squib kick; it's not an onside kick, it's a squib kick, you squib it along the ground to prevent a long run back and it backfired as it hit a player, dead ball.

Do you understand the difference between the two?

Enjoy your win.

It’s not my win, but I appreciate the credit.

I don’t care what the guy looks like. He’s got a leg like a cannon. And if he “false started”, I’ve never seen that called in my life.

The refs called more penalties on Ga than Ok. While it’s true GAs ownership of the Patriots only lasted one half, in college football NE is not a factor. So we have that going for us. ;) Wonder how many Pats played ball for SEC / other southern teams.

Oklahoma was running mis direction plays all game, reverses, flea flickers, squib kicks, pass to the QB, etc. I don’t think they had the personnel to go head to head with the Dawgs, and knew it. Great effort by the coaches but they came up short.

A Squibb kick can work like an onside if they get lucky. They didn’t.

Yep. An all-SEC championship game. Being played where Georgia has a home-field ad, but not sure that's worth much in this game. Looks to be an offense vs defense set-up so I would expect a somewhat lower score than the first semi game tonight but it will be interesting. -- Al

Home field, maybe. Athens is about 1.5 hours from Atlanta, Tuscaloosa about 3 hours. The city has loads of graduates and fans from both schools.

He moved towards the holder before the ball was snapped, aka, a false start, just like if a running back moves towards the QB before the ball is snapped.

Probably wouldn't have mattered if they called it like they should have and moved the ball back 5 yards as he's automatic (except for the one he missed).

The Patriots are loaded with former SEC players, which is why they've dominated the NFL for the past 17 years.

And we all know southerners play football better than northerners; winning civil wars is a whole other story though.

An all SEC final; we'll see how Georgia does vs the Bama defense.

I still have a "dawg" in this fight, just not yours.

I enjoyed both games, the GA OK lived up to its billing, great effort on all sides, yes that squib kick had me scratching my head..... ALABAMA another story sending Dumbo and Clownson home. Sorry to any Clemson fans, but as I have posted before, I can't stand them or their coach.

Prediction in the final - Alabama - Saban is 11-0 versus former assistants, I think that is a true Whos your Daddy statement! It should make for a great game, Georgia is quite resilient this year and their confidence has to be pretty high going into this game. Also an X factor is Alabama injuries - they might have 2 or 3 significant ones from last night.

Espn has a good article interviewing Tony Brown of the Tide talking about Dumbo's trash talk and the motivation it gave Alabama. I felt like that game last night was justice well served. Whuppin! (And disclaimer, I am not a Tide fan)

So proud of my former team UGA for coming back in the Rose Bowl. It's been a fun year to be a DAWG! Need just one more win.

It was a great game and congrats. Who knows, all the experts will pick AL, but that to me would put GA in a good position to be the spoiler.

Good Luck

Thanks Tom. I would prefer to be the underdog and I'm sure we will be. I think we've got a 50/50 chance of winning. Will be tough though now that AL's D is back to full strength. They stuffed Clemson's O. Jake Fromm will have to have a good game throwing the ball if we are going to have a chance of winning because AL is going to try their best to stop our running game.

I'm sure there will be a lot of talk this week about how great the SEC is but the conference as a whole wasn't that great this year. TN and Arkansas were downright awful. Very top heavy with Bama, Auburn and Georgia. Beyond that mediocre down the line. I like Bama in the championship game. They usually play well on the big stage while Georgia has a long history of choking. Second only to TN. Not a fan of Nick Satan though. If Georgia pulls a miracle and wins it that's fine with me.

Prediction:

Bama 30
Georgia 24

Most of the season Alabama dealt with some significant injuries on defense. They seem to be fully healthy now so it is difficult to use what happened in the regular season as an indicator of their current potential performance.

The Auburn game was their last regular season game.

I’m sure Ga has had plenty of injured players. Alabama has a notoriously deep bench. I doubt the fall off from starter to back up was much.

I think GA has a great chance to win. This year's team is special. I've been a UGA fan my whole life and on the team back in the 80's and this year just feels right. I think it's our time. We almost beat Bama a few years back in the SEC championship the year they clobbered ND in the national championship game.

Duke I was at that SEC Champ game and was wearing my Dawgs pullover! I always liked Mark Richt as he was the offensive wizard at FSU, I hate that he is now at Miami, but that is his alma mater. But that game, man was that a good one, about as back and forth as you go. I am looking forward to Monday!

Last big Georgia game I was at in person was the ‘81 / ‘82 Sugar Bowl vs. Pitt in New Orleans. We had Herschel Walker, they had Dan Marino. Dawgs were ranked #2 and might could have won their second national title in a row, with a win, if Clemson also lost to Nebraska.

Dawgs were up late in the game by 4 points. Marino threw a 4th down TD pass with 33 seconds left, and that was it. Herschel was stymied the entire game, despite having rushed for over 1800 in the regular season. Heartbreaker. Ga finished ranked 6th and haven’t really been in the hunt since. Guy from my high school, year behind, played linebacker for the Dawgs: Knox Culpepper. A great football name, akin to a Bronko Nagurski or Doak Walker.

That was a great game Tom and we almost pulled it out. I've got a good feeling about this Monday... we're due.

I was at that game too...in high school at the time. Marino broke our hearts. I remember Knox, I was a freshman his senior year (I got redshirted).

That was my Sophomore year of college. Bout 10 guys, mostly fraternity brothers. One was from NO so we had a free place to stay.

I see Knox around town every once in a while. Good dude.

What position did you play? Dooley was still in his prime then, I believe.

I was a PK/P. Kevin Butler's senior year was also my freshman year. He was an awesome talent and it was fun to be able to practice with him everyday. One story about him... we were scrimmaging in Sanford Stadium one day and warming up... I was holding for him kicking 50 yd field goals and he was making them with 20+ yards to spare. He looked at me and said to move over to the other side of the tee (kicking block). I said "what are you going to kick it left footed?". He said yes, and did and was good from 50! (only cleared by a couple yards but still). I saw Kevin last year for the first time in 32 years in Atlanta at a fundraiser. He showed me his Super Bowl ring with the Bears and told some funny Ditka stories.

Anyway, my career did not go like I hoped. I was just a reserve and gave it up after a couple years.

I pulled out some of my old photos recently. Fun to look back on those times. It seems like a lifetime ago now.

Forgot to answer the other part of your question.

Yes, Coach Dooley was there throughout the 80's and I believe 89 was his last season as head football coach
