Hard to believe but it's that time. A good game tonight between Pitt and Utah. Look for the Utes to pull an upset at home. And SC burns the midnight oil with a 11PM EST kickoff against Hawaii. Tough offseason for my mighty Trojans, but they may take it out on a few teams this season which would be just fine.

What was the final say on USC? Sanctions? Hopefully my Golden Domers can beat them this year!

The NCAA came down hard on them. In my biased opinion it was overkill. Any college football program in the US has similar issues without incurring penalites even close: two year bowl ban, loss of 30 scholarships, vacating a number of wins. All relating to Reggie Bush who last played six years ago. There will be appeals and legal challenges that should be interesting. The NCAA has become a joke. Regardless, I'm fairly confident when it comes to playing ND this year. The game is in LA and the new coach in South Bend hasn't had time to restock the talent pool yet. Kelly is definitely a major upgrade from Weis though.

Don't count ND out yet. Weiss couldn't get the wins but that doesn't mean the talent wasn't there. ND has one of the best if not the best Wide Receiver in the country in Michael Floyd amd the same could be said about their TE Kyle Rudolph. Defense maybe a little shakey but they brought in some good looking kids last year that have hopefully developed a bit more from gaining a years experience.

Also I'm calling it now but I think NDs QB will be one of the best QBs in the country. His name is Dane Crist and was highly recruited. The kid has a very good arm and is very accurate. If he doesn't work maybe they can stir the echoes and put Montana in :D that is his son Nate Montana.

I was disappointed to see UCONN was not on the ND schedule this year. I guess we embaressed them enough last year;)

Hey Combat, we (USC) won last night. I will say, were was the "D" (Defense) but really I've been use fan since my childhood (McKay days) and my wife and I went to USC.

It will be a long season this year and next but we'll be back.

Yes, I was reaching for the Tums in the second half (at 3AM no less). Winning ugly is still winning though.:) On to crush UVA next week!

Big game tonight between Boise St. and Virginia Tech. Boise St. might run the table if they can win this one.

You are right Combat. Boise St. just doesn't play anybody after tonight. If they were in the SEC, they wouldn't even be in the running for the SEC Championship, much less a National Title.

I am just happy college football is back and the NFL gets cranked up this Thursday night. It has felt like eternity.

Was a corker of a game. Still think Boise St. overated but such is the NCAA. The game between Md. and Navy was a good one, too. I liked both teams, graduated from UMd. but have always rooted for Navy. Navy will remember this loss as they torpedoed themselves in the red zone 4 or 5 times. Navy should have won in a walk, but that's NCAA football. Congratulations to the Terps. -- Al

Navy beat themselves six different ways to Sunday. Three fumbles inside the two yard line! Five trips to the red zone with no points. Then decide not to kick the game tying FG and get stuffed at the one. Whew. That hurts.

We Terps were extremely lucky here. Yet, I don't really savor this win, I am afraid of what the ACC will do to this defense. We got lucky when it mattered and stuffed them. Otherwise, that D has big holes in it. Imagine the whipping the revamped FSU will put on us........51 to 14.

Agree. I don't know what they were thinking. Tie the game and win it in overtime. Md. hadn't really moved the ball well (beyond the 1st quarter) and Navy had dominated ball control. Not much chance of losing in overtime for Navy. Anyway, Navy blew the game. Hope it doesn't color the rest of the year for them. -- Al

So true. It could be another ugly year in College Park. Liked the kid at QB but I hope there is a passing game in there somewhere. -- Al

Well executed d plays forced key fumbles (so I told my Navy Academy brother-in-law). But can't disagree with your dire prediction. We're back to where we were pre-Freidgen era, or worse!

I know, I hate it. Just quick background on me, my family has held season tix since 1981, we all (parents too) quit this year after 29 seasons. My family was 4 tix, but the total group was about 25 tix. I also went to school there and was a part of the Maryland football family my four years from 91 thru 95. Those years sucked too! The only positive moment this year was Debbie Yow leaving. I don't mean this sexist in anyway, but she cared more about tiddlywinks having good equipment than the money sports of fball and bball. I am all for Title IX, but c;mon, who pays the bills????? Oh I could go on for hours on this subject and the insider knowledge I had for years would astound you (those of you that care)! Talk about hypocrites galore, it is ugly. I also have very strong ties to Florida State (family, uncle was the Chancellor) and I know Bobby Bowden personally. All I can say, is the differences are unreal. If you want to be competitive, you have to give your teams that freedom and ability. Maryland can't do that now, money is a big issue, but not the only one, it is attitude and perceived arrogance. My opinion - arrogance is fine as long as you win. Fridge just doesn't get it, it ain't the 1980s in Terpland anymore, he is handcuffed by the University, they flat out don't want to win if you look at their actions. The only positives - upgrade to facilities, they just forgot everything else that is required to win.

Sorry to rant, but it is a thorn in my side.
