College Football - finally (2 Viewers)

I know, I hate it. Just quick background on me, my family has held season tix since 1981, we all (parents too) quit this year after 29 seasons...
Sorry to rant, but it is a thorn in my side.

You have way more insight than me, tough to really see what goes on from a distance, even with Internet. I've followed the Terps for over 40 yrs, a lot of ups and downs. Biggest disappointment was inability of bball team to stay up after the championship but what a great season they had last yr! I arrived at College Park in Lefty's second yr and a lot of great memories but mostly unfulfilled promises.

Don't see much of passing threat this yr. QB position has hurt last few yrs.

I remember Lefty fondly as a kid, loved him as a coach, met him a few times and he knew how to "sell" even to a kid!!

The Bias debacle was the downfall of a lot at U of M! sadly.

we terps were extremely lucky here. Yet, i don't really savor this win, i am afraid of what the acc will do to this defense. We got lucky when it mattered and stuffed them. Otherwise, that d has big holes in it. imagine the whipping the revamped fsu will put on us........51 to 14.

Go Seminoles !

:D :D :D

I remember the death of Bias like it was yesterday. It was like a knife in the heart. Tore the guts out of UMd. It was as shocking to me as any event I could remember, including the assassinations of the '60s. It was a tragedy that took the UMd. forever to recover from (if it has, yet). UMd. went from the top with Lefty to the pits with Bob Wade, another disaster the UMd. took years to recover from. Tough years for we Terps. -- Al

True words, true words.

Super Saturday coming up - time to pick'em:

Florida St. at Oklahoma - I going with OK at home in a close one.

Miami at Ohio St. - taking the upset here. Miami avenges the phantom pass interference call that cost them the national championship.

Michigan at Notre Dame - the battle of struggling programs. Loser is on the hot seat. ND with an ugly win.

Penn St at Alabama - I'm pulling for PSU but they don't have a chance. Bama wins by three TDs.

Can't we just say rebuilding programs?? We can't all be like USC and buy our players ;) After all w/o Bush in "05" Brady Quinn and company walk away with a win and USC doesn't even make it to the big game.

Michigan was 3-9 in '08 and 5-7 last year. ND was 7-6 and 6-6 then fired their coach. They have also lost twice to Navy in the last three years and eight in a row to the mighty Trojans dating back to 2002. Those are struggling programs. If they do well this season, we can call them rebuilding. ;)

Wow! Very confident "The Mighty Trojans". Lets not forget who holds the lead in the rivalry. I believe ND is up 42 to 33 with 5 or 6 ties. I believe they are exactly tied when it comes to championships with 11 a piece and both schools have 7 Heisman winners. Oh wait, USC is about to lose one of their National Championships and a Heisman trophy :D

I love this time of year! I'm sure you and I could go on and on until each of our ears bleed from hearing about the others school. Our conversation is much more mild then it would be with the last USC fans I had to sit next to at last years game. Of course they were about 12 years younger then me and really didn't care about the history between these two programs

Unfortunately I get to hear from Michigan and MSU fans all the time. Truthfully I could care less about the Michigan game its the MSU game and the USC game that really mean something. Michigan fans hate it when I tell them that.

I have nothing but respect for ND football. A great history. A good run by SC and the Orwellian NCAA takes nothing away from it. These things go in cycles though and ND will have their day again. What mystifies me is the lack of talent at ND in recent years. Without too much bias, I would say in the last decade of 22 starters on O and D, SC had bigger, faster and stronger players on average than ND in about 20 positions. These were not competitive games for the most part. Unfortunately, ND is going the way of the SEC and softening its schedule with only 4 away games.

I think Larry Bird said it was the sadest thing he ever heard.

TD, Lancer (Al) if you're ever in Bluegrass country drop me a PM. We'll have a pint (or Mint Julep) and discuss TS and the Terps! We're outside of Louisville. Chris
Thanks for the invite, Chris. Will do. We Terps need to commiserate together about turtle troubles.:D -- Al

My feelings are likewise for SC. Its hard to dislike such a dynamic team like USC has been over the years. I frequently compare USCs run (correct me if I'm wrong when SC turned it around) to NDs run in the 80's.

The funny thing about ND is that they always get a top recruiting class and nothing ever comes of it???? I don't know if its the coaching the last couple of years, the offensive/defensive style or what??? When Weis came in we kept hearing that he would draw the recruits because he was bringing in a pro mentality and that kids would naturally be drawn to the glimmer of the NFL. The only problem is that ND has really high standards for their recruits and truth be told a lot of these recruits just can't hack it. Unfortunately I do not think ND will return to the powerhouse that it once was until they lower their standards. To compensate for this ND is starting to "soften" their schedule which I completely disagree with.

Tough loss for ND yesterday. They do look like a better coached team than under Weiss. So maybe things will shake out. And Va. Tech getting beat by James Madison! ouch. SC is 2-0 but not an impressive win over UVA.

Some good games yesterday. ND should have beat Michigan but defense couldn't get it done. Virginia played USC well and could have won. Navy squeaked by, won but could have lost. Bama looked good. Oregon shocked me by thrashing Tenn. so badly. Enjoyed my Terps winning but it meant nothing against lower competition. Enjoyed VaTech getting beaten, again. Was an enjoyable day, overall. -- Al

I only wish Crist was in the whole game. I think the outcome would have been different but thats football you have to roll with the injuries as they come.

Only a few good games this weekend:

No. 9 Iowa at No. 24 Arizona - this has upset potential. I'm picking AZ at home.

No. 10 Florida at Tennessee - an ugly game given how UF has been playing on O. Might be interesting but Florida should pull it out.

Maryland at No. 21 West Virginia - the end of MDs undefeated run or minor upset? WVU should take care of business.

No. 18 USC at Minnesota. Uh-oh. MN coming off a terrible defeat - playing at home against an SC team that has not played well. Forget it as Lee Corso says. SC wins big.

Well, I've already turned off the MD WVA game. Ralph Freidgen showing true incompetence again and early!

I had it on gamecast, have also tuned out. 4 penalties on the first 3 plays. Truely impressive. Only 14-0, WVa, at end of 1st. Could get bad. -- Al

Bad enough, but not a total disgrace, Md. loses 31-17. Won the 2nd half.:p UMd. ended with negative yards rushing but had some nice pass plays. Still not a complete effort. -- Al
