Great Info - It is pretty much what Richard had said to me in his emails.

I am very interested in the new facilities - they sound great. Look forward to seeing them one day.

I hope we see some of these great toy soldiers soon !

A good read and the images remind me of a few movies. The Scots are excellent. Freedom !!!
However there is one image which looks like it is based on a movie but can somebody tell me which movie ?
It is the pair of figures about half way down the page above the Foreign Legion. Shows a bare-chested guy with dagger in one hand and stick in the other hitting another all dressed up in fur. Is that from a movie ?

Well, I just got word my package from Conte (I won an auction from him on Ebay) has just arrived! I paid for it 12 days ago, since I live in Brazil and packages take 7 to 10 business days to arrive here, I think they sent it on the first 2 or 3 days.
:D

Fast shipping!
:D

I'd like to clear something about myself as well.

I'm Brazilian and I live in Brazil and here we have a philosophy: "Remember the good moments, forget the bad ones." I try to live through that statement and I don't look for the worst on people, only their best.

So when I say I trust Richard Conte and I have no doubt great stuff is coming soon, you, my American friends, should not think I'm naive and don't know anything about him. I've been collecting Conte's toy soldiers since 2001 and I've had my disappointments with him before.

Conte could disapoint me again, but he has credit for all the good stuff he's done. It is simply a matter of philosophy. We Brazilians believe people should be praised for their achievments, not bashed for their faults.

It is a good philosophy, it works for me.

All the best,

Marcelo

We must remember that Brazil is the country that gave the world the wonders of Pele and countless other great footballers and the wonders of those lovely young ladies who dance the Samba o nall those floats during the Madi Gras.
One day I would love to be in Rio for that.
I agree Marcelo.
Conte produces some of the best figures around and is worth waiting for.

I reckon they are both from his Rogers Rangers/Woodland Indians series which he based on the film Northwest Passage 1940.

The majority of his figures and poses he tends to base on characters from the movies rather than from history for example his pair of Western figures in his missive are obviously Brynner and McQueen from The Magnificent Seven, whilst the female gunslinger looks a lot like the character played by Raquel Welch in Hannie Caulder.
However, the four gun-men shown at the beginning of the article are historical but again definitely taken from a movie in this case Tombstone with Kurt Russell; Sam Elliott; Bill Paxton and Val Kilmer-portraying the Earps and Doc Holliday.

Well, southern Brazil is the land of churrasco. If any of you gentlemen have been to a churrascaria (40 + different kinds of meat one after the other in a single meal!), you know what I'm talking about!

I think he may have done Sharon Stone in Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold:

Of course the gentleman beside her is Michael Douglas in The Ghost and the Darkness! A terrific film!

Now, I don't collect colonial period toy soldiers... but maybe just those two?

Sharon Stone looked great at the time, she still does today, but she was some 20 years younger then! Anyway, the clothing on the figure, and the face as well, reminds me of her.

I may buy both Sharon and Michael, even though I don't particularly like the period. I'm a fan, you know?

That was Richard Chamberlain as Allan Quartermain. Michael Douglas was in Romancing the Stone.

I realise that at Allan Quatermain the main character was playsed by Richard Chamberlain. Conte's toy solider, however was based on Michael Douglas in The Ghost and the Darkness, a much better movie, as I pointed out.
