Conte's back!!! (6 Viewers)

Here's Conte figure:

It's very clearly based on Michael Douglas, not Richard Chamberlain. Now, Mr Douglas was in Romacing the Stone with Kathleen Turner, but also in The Ghost and the Darkness. Here's a couple of images from the latter:

Even though the pictures are not exactly good, one can see there's a resemblance between the sculpting and the movie star.
:D

Not Chamberlain or Michael Douglas...but is AQ... keep guessing...

Joe, he looks like Michael Douglas to me...

From the Wikipedia:
The character of Allan Quatermain has been portrayed in film and television by Richard Chamberlain, John Colicos, Sean Connery, Cedric Hardwicke, and Patrick Swayze. Stewart Granger also played Quatermain in the 1950 Hollywood film adaptation of King Solomon's Mines, which was directed by Compton Bennett.

Could you give us a clue? Is he any of these gentlemen?
:D

That Conte figure looks like Gary Cooper. No where does it look like Michael Douglas.

Mark, Gary Cooper never played Allan Quatermain... Joe Baker said the figure is of Allan Quatermain so I guess he must be one of the following list:

Richard Chamberlain,
John Colicos,
Sean Connery,
Cedric Hardwicke,
Patrick Swayze,
Stewart Granger.

Maybe he is Stewart Granger?

It's based off Patrick Swayze, I'm 100% positive!

Vick, now that you mentioned it I can see some resemblance. Of course we can only see half the face, so we could only be positive after Joe Baker tells us who he is!

Vick

This is Patrick Swayze in the 2004 version of King Solomon's Mines:

And Conte's version of Allan Quatermain:

I guess it's really Patrick Swayze. He's wearing the same outfit as the figure...

Look at that they could be brothers, or distant cousins at least!

Vick:p:D

I never said that he played AQ,I said the figure look like him.
Mark

I know that Mark, but Joe Baker, who is Conte's webmaster, made it clear that it was an actor that had played Allan Quatermain. Gary Cooper never played Allan Quatermain, so Mr Cooper could not have inspired the toy soldier, that's what I meant.

He might not have inspired the figure but it still looks like him.

He looks like Gary Cooper to you, Mark. To me he looked like Michael Douglas. We were both wrong.
:D

He is based on Patrick Swayze, though.

Conte is not back !!

I personally thought Mr Conte was rather defensive on his latest webpage.

To complain that people are still trying to order retired sets (eg plastics) is a multiple failure as:
1) he's actually complaining that people wish to do business with him, and
2) he actually complaining that people wish to order goods that he is advertising as being available eg he complained that peope wanted the GIs in particular colours
3) he hasn't acknowledged that his webpages are the problem. eg has Mr Conte not heard of the word "retired" ?. Why can't Mr Conte keep his webpages up to date so people know what has been retired.

I am not impressed with the Darkest Africa nor the Western figures for one reason. I'll never see them for real as he can't get his supply working.

BTW on a more pleasant note, I think the figure bears a resemblance to Michael Douglas eg
1) Ghost and the Darkness
2) Romancing the Stone

cheers

Well, I may be wrong but you seem to have a grudge against him. Maybe he didn't have a set you wanted to buy?

Anyway: your complaint is that he does not use the word retired on some sets, those not available anymore, but if you had taken your time to read the webmaster's blog, on Conte's website, you'd find that posted last week by Joe Baker, the playset addict:

The big project coming up will be to go through the websites and remove all the sold/out gone forever sets. I am waiting for the final inventory to do that.

See? Someone had this idea before you. Joe is only waiting to finish the inventory to update the site. Simple as that.
:D

Cheers...

By the way: I also thought it was Michael Douglas, but it isn't!
