Just heard on radio. After a 18 month cancer battle.

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't he only recently (last 2-3 years) getting a fairly big advance payment for future albums.

RIP one of the greats.

Very sad news, just after he reached 69. RIP David and thank you.

Nooo, not Ziggy! RIP Mr. Bowie. You were a true original. -- Al

Bowie was larger than life which makes his passing all the more sad and shocking. A true artist and hero in my book. So many great songs, movies, and plays dating back fifty years.

In bits after hearing the news this morning.
David Bowie was one of my few remaining heroes left in this screwed-up world.

David Bowie, Roxy Music and Lou Reed transformed my teenage life from drab and grey to exciting and multi coloured through their music, theatre, vision and style;

Bowie was the visionary and innovator and the others followed.

This world will miss this one-off true genius Starman.

Another music legend goes to the big band in the sky!
Sad news but his art will stay with us and he influenced so many.....

Sad to hear this, when I first discovered him as a kid, I thought he was weird, then I learned by listening to more and more of his music, how cool and innovative he was. Great icon, will be missed, still sing along to the music when its on the airwaves!

Goodbye to the" Thin White Duke", my hero.I lived his world during my youth years. With his music and personality, he could create special atmospheres and strong melancholic emotions, a kind of trance.

My top 2 artists all time, who could resist Suffergette city? That really caught my attention, just great rock and roll. But the man was sooo much more than that.
The Thin White Duke, Rock and Roll Royalty,

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in the most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here am I sitting in my tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do....................

I saw Bowie in concert several times. Always great but the highlight was sometime back in the late 90s when he came to a place called the Capital Ballroom in DC. At that time Bowie was selling out football stadiums but this place held less than a thousand people. You could stand in front of the stage, go grab a drink at the bar and listen to Bowie playing just a few feet away. Pretty amazing in retrospect. When I was a kid Elvis came to the old Capital Center where the Bullets played. For some reason we didn't go even though my mom was a big fan. Always regretted that. Lesson learned though. Life is short and these opportunities are fleeting.
