If you collect more than say two ranges, do you have difficulty in deciding which range to add to next?. I REALLY do!. The day before yesterday I had £100 to spend with the good folk at K&C UK. Out of the five or six ranges I collect I narrowed it down to three (Bulge,RAF, D Day) by about 10am, I then narrowed further to RAF or D Day. I then spent the rest of the day trying to decide which was the way to go!. Do I get the next two items I want in the RAF range or start on those BR1 figures that I'm sure will be retired pretty soon. OH MY GOD I couldn't make up my mind!. Finally about 4pm I went for the RAF items. Does anyone else agonize over what to get, and then change their mind several times before they either hit the button or make the call?.

Please tell me its not just me!

Rob.....I've done that myself !!!!!!! do not worry your not alone !!!!!:)

I think he was deciding on whether to get the tank riders or not! :D

No, it's not just you, but I've learned to become a bit more disciplined.

I have a list which ranks my wants in order. It gets adjusted each time new items are announced in the ranges I collect. and there are fewer ranges that I collect compared to when I first started. And not being a completionist is a blessing as I can easily leave aside models from a range I do collect if I don't really want the model.

Oh I've tried lists, but K&C release something new and shiny and I fold like the cheapest deck chair on the Titanic:eek:

This pretty much sums it up for me too. But, my priorities are on the items that are retired rather than the new stuff. I am finding that it used to be easy to buy from several ranges but costs- all across the industry- are making that very difficult. I started thinking last night about putting my AWI, Greek and Egyptian sets on the bay and just focusing back on WW2, Rome and Modern warfare. Those are really my favorite periods of time- WW2 being that I would strictly stick with Normandy.

Since it's not looking like there are going to be any more WW1 releases for a while, and my interest in WW2 is slowly but surely waning, I'm finding myself drawn more and more to the Napoleonics. In Troops of Time the other day I purchased one of the new Aussie Lighthorsemen, but when I got home kept thinking "I kind of wish I had bought one of those Cuirassiers instead."

Having a list sounds very organised. I think that everyone will have benefited from the manner in which the discontinued has slowed down to almost a trickle compared to a short while back. I would probably start in the discontinued section and work that way leaving the new releases as they will on the whole last longer

Yes I for one am very pleased we've not had an avalanche of retirements to start 2011, now and again is helpful, gives you a chance to get the bits you need.

Exactly- that is what sort of scares me for a lot of collectors out there- take it from me fellas- I started "branching out" when the retirements got slow. Then, they took off and when you are sitting there looking at 4-6 sets getting retired that you need and you don't have the cash, it makes for rough decision making. I'm telling you, I'd steer clear of adding more ranges- especially with the price increases.

Which range should i keep adding to??
I'm very tempted to start this new range, should i ??
I bought this piece maybe i should have bought this one
I had this on my list, but this came out, what should i do??
I have to cut down, which range should i keep??
Rob this is part of collecting, ur not the only one
Solution is DISCIPLINE my freind
Finish what u start
Don't add if u can't

Chris...

I suppose thats right if your a collector that has to have every set in a range but, I think a good few now cherry pick ranges for the ones most attracted to. If you don't mind an eclectic mix from many ranges without having them all then at the moment your in heaven

That is good advice Maple Leaf, I do need greater discipline and better focus.

Cheers

I agonize every darn time, If I should get this, Or that. Except for a few Ranges(AE,, Wild west, Alamo, The Orient, WWI, Sons of the Empire), I have bought something from the Other ranges. And If There will ever be another Chariot For ancient Egypt, That will be another range, I will get interested in.

Chris,
I can't believe you would give up your Egyptians.

The Cuiraissiers are a great choice... K&C Naps cavalry has not reach that level of action since then.

I think that K&C WW2 offerings come out thick and fast each month but the rest are much less intense. Those doing WW2 should have a lot on their plate. I am currently doing Naps & Crusades - and would only consider a third line if it is the armies of the early Renaissance period - Landskechts and swiss - which I think K&C would do quite well with their colour and animation

Dear Rob:

Perhaps "agonize" is too strong a word for me, but I have looked at assorted series of sets or sets within a given series and have made some change of mind decisions after almost going with something else. Just recently I was nearly serious about getting some K&C "Refugee" figures from K&C's FoB range for my K&C WW1 "1914...March On Paris" diorama figuring that they should fit in & look OK. But I then decided instead on dropping that idea in favor of just getting the new to be issued soon K&C WW1 sets of FW092,FW095 & FW096. With K&C there is a lot to chose from most of the time. I hope to post photos of my revised WW1 diorama in March 2011.

You are not alone Rob! Sometimes I'm almost conflicted when trying to make decisions like the one you described, and the other times, I have much better clarity and focus. It's fun having the "target certainty" type days and its satisfying to pick up just what you felt so right about. But those days when I'm caught sitting on the fence between two (or three) equally valid choices, although somewhat grueling, are almost just as much fun in their own way as well. I hear ya though.....sometimes it's almost a bit of distress we put ourselves through!:)

Hey guys, very interesting to read your take on things. Yes agonize is probably too strong a word for it, maybe a 'Happy indecision' is more like it;). But I suppose the good side of this indecision is that by the time I do make up my mind at least I know I really want the item in question in my collection. I can at least say I rarely regret buying anything, because I've thought about it plenty befirehand!:D Good to hear some of you are not too quick to decide either!

Rob
