"DEGUELLO!" The Fall of the Alamo (1 Viewer)

Reb,

I lived in Beaumont, Texas for a couple of years, just a few miles down the road from San Jacinto, where the brave Texans (with the help of a Mulatto lady of the night - hence "The Yellow Rose of Texas" - keeping Santa Anna up all night) got their revenge. I have visited the Alamo, and stood on its hallowed ground. All I have to say is Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad! This is a thread I can really sink my teeth into!! I can't wait!!:cool:

Very nice Reb. I'm enjoying the way you set up the story. Looking forward to the rest. Cheers.

Reb,

It appears that your talents and skills are improving. This promises to be even better than the Civil War Diaries. Besides the foam fiasco, are there any new challenges that you have been able to overcome?

I just had a chance to read this thread and based on preface, this should be outstanding. The introductory photos make you seem as if you're on a tour of the real thing.

Looks like a great start Reb. As a Texan I look forward to your portrayal of one of Texas' finest/darkest hours.

This is an excellent setup! Can't wait to see it with figures and read the diodrama.

This is sure to be another page turner mate. Beautiful set up and photos so far. I eagarly await the unfolding of this saga but certainly hope this does not undermine the production of your ASW episodes.:D

Guys

Many thanks for all of your supportive comments-very much appreciated. I had absolutely no idea so many of you were Alamo fans and Texan born:eek:. I just hope I can now deliver a good enough and snappy story for you but I'll give it my best shot.

Still got the plaza to finish and must get those new K&C Mexicans that are now showing on February dispatches- hopefully at the London show.

Don't worry Bill still intend keeping the Reb/Yank scrap going-just got hold of some new and quite interesting ACW figures so am working on the next chapter as I write. Thanks again guys!

Reb

How are you going to have Davy Crockett die? Battle or firing squad?

How about an alternative ending, with the Texicans fighting off 15000 Mexicans, using ray guns and plasma cannon.....? What Texan is going to have a problem with that? :eek:Michael

I like Fess Parker slinging his broken rifle as the camera elevates to the sky and the Davy Crockett song starts. Of course you can't do that in a diorama.

Well, we could always have Davey disguise himself as Mrs Dickinson and escape death all together. Davey in drag. Not a heroic ending, but certainly different.

I kinda like this version and could always bring him back in the sequel with some River Pirates:)

The cross dressing idea is pretty good as well "Davy Dickinson" I like the sound of the name. Have to get a figure cast for that one though:D

As most of you know there are four versions maybe five

1. Swinging Ole Betsy with a hundred dead Mexicans at his feet.
2. Executed by firing squad
3. Executed by bayonet
4. Scrambling over the pallisade and being lanced by Ramirez y Sesma's Cavalry Pickets.
5. Davy escaped and opened a toy soldier shop in Nagadoches.

So with the above and all of your suggestions I need to ponder on how I'll depict it. Thanks for your thoughts/ideas.

Bob,

Well for the sake of sentimentality it’s got to be No.1…………mind you do you have enough dead Mexicans?

We want more! We want more! We want more! We want more!

My son was a Crockett fan when he was about 4. Coonskin cap and all. He thought Davy was hunting bears in heaven. Awwwwwwwh. :) I remember him hiding in his room when his three half Mexican cousins came to visit. True story.

I'm a pretty cynical guy, but I don't mess with the Alamo and Davy Crockett.

Hahaha! I just don't take some of the Bull about some historical events for granted. I've read more than most outside the "hobby" about the Alamo but the event is an American icon from which one can take lessons about bravery and freedom. Yes the Texans wanted to bring slavery in and grab land from the Mexicans and Indians. Some of the heroes were pirates and rascals hiding out in Texas. But it still makes a great story. Even folks not from Texas or the US of A like the story.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your diorama.
