disappointed with blondi (1 Viewer)

I actually wasn't ever going to post my opinion as I had it from the day I saw the photos on the release. I do get excited when you get a "different" type of set and was looking forward to it. No big deal, not every set is going to be perfect and trust me, I am by no means a rivet counter, I mix 1/32, 1/30, etc and if something is missing a "bolt" somewhere, no biggie! I guess this release was just about one of the first ones that actually disappointed me personally and I just posted my 2 cents on the subject!

Tom:

Everyone that know you love to hear your opinions, so keep them coming. I hope my comments were no source of annoyance for you! I just had an
image in my mind of Andy dreaming up this entire new range and find himself
tripped up over Blondi!:D

Tom,

I respect your opinion and actually enjoyed the back and forth. I am certainly not calling you a rivet counter and I hope that we cross paths again, maybe even in agreement next time.

And Njja, as far as KV, if you are ever on a diet, do not go out to eat with him. I tried to maintain my healthy habits even at the Westcoaster, next thing I know he wants to go to Gulliver’s!

I agree, that pooch needs to be put down! However I think the Hitler piece is K&C's best to date so as a whole the piece is a hit and miss.

You bet, at 6'6 KV probably consumes quite a pile of groceries! I was no

slouch myself really not watching what I was eating. I loved to go to

"The Varsity" a local place and have a couple of Chilli Dogs, a plate of fries

and a couple of cokes......probably 1500 calories enough for an entire day.

When I approached my Harleys and they shuttered.....I knew it was time to

quit!:D

LOL, yup, KV is a big guy, but a real gentle giant. And I am still laughing about the Harleys!

There is a place near Sierra Toy Soldier called Happy Hound, the chili dogs there are incredible, not sure how it compares to The Varsity but it sounds similar!

KV if you have not been there I need to take you. My treat.

Hey KV quit talking about food! I am on a diet and have lost 14lbs in

14 days. I have been quite successful in the past last time I lost 40 lbs in a

month an a half got down to 206!

This time I started at 262 when I was mistaken for a bowling ball and found

myself 1/2 down lane 32.:D

So no more talk about great places to eat!:D

Glad to hear you are losing weight. I will try to keep the references to restaurants to a minimum. Is it ok to put a plug for Pizza My Heart? Oops sorry:eek:

Jason anytime someone says my treat it is! I love chilidogs. But if we get to Chicago I am buying the itallian Beef dogs at Buona Beef. http://www.buona.com/

Regarding the dog's unhappy appearance I put it down to the fact he has just overheard that the Russians are coming !

I think that people are upset about Blondi because the dog is a central piece of the whole Berghoff diorama. I one of the waiters looked weird, it would not have been a big deal. And as bad as the figure looks in pictures, it is worse when you look and handle the real thing. I also got the little black dog from the Streets of Hong Kong series and I can tell you that they did a better job with that. The little mutt looks far more dignified and menacing than the German Shepartd,

I think this sentence pretty much ends the discussion. The dog looks bad in the pictures, and even worst after you got yours. I don't think we will find anyone who will say he actually liked K&C's Blondi...

Michael:

Actually I am doing quite well, I start with oatmeal & blackberries in the

morning. Salad and grilled chicken with a side of pasta for diner, and a cup of

tea before bed. Usually lose 1lb every morning.

I used to eat a big breakfast bacon, sausage, french toast. A couple of

grilled cheese and tomato with soup for lunch. Usually a couple of

cheeseburgers and a coke out during the day. Maybe Veal Parm for diner,

and a couple more grilled cheese & tomato with soup before bed.

Wife is a great cook, and one of the worlds fastest her favorite question is

"Do you want something from the kitchen"?:D

I have also decided to give up my lifelong dream of becoming the first

Italian Sumo Wrestler.

I remember some of our conversations. Good on you. Sumo wrestling is not something for the faint of heart. You'll be happier for it in the long run. Now more walking!

No to beat a Dead Dog - Sorry, I couldn't help myself :p

BUT - THAT DOG LOOKS DEAD !

I guess my disappointment with the release is this German Shepard could have been used in several other settings/dioramas we all have. I would have loved to gotten several of them and put them with WS German Guards.

You could have used one of them with the Rommel figure. I mean there are many things it could have been used for in displays.

I think the entire release is great, very creative - but, I don't do LAH - so its just nice to look at. Rarely, do I see a release that crys out for a recasting - but, BLONDI DOES ! .... and thats coming from me - of all people ! ;)

Yes I agree.......only I do my walking on a Harley:D

Hi Guys,

Well after this little tirade I suppose I better have another look at “Blondi”!!! I have though to agree with my friend NJJA… it does kind of surprise me sometimes on the Forum that an awful lot of time and energy is expended on peripheral items (even blondi) and the real “meat ‘n’ potatoes” goes by with hardly a comment.

To be honest when we decided to do the Berghof I thought there might be a little back-lash of “political correctness” from certain quarters… Amazingly… all quiet on the Western front on that one. But now we have “Blondi” to worry about and give us sleepless nights. Actually when we designed the new Hitler figure it was only going to be just Adolf and him alone… no pooch. Then, I thought, why not add his ***** as well (Blondi I mean not Eva). Boy did I get it wrong!

However I bow to the superior knowledge of all those German Shepherd fanciers out there and we’ll do a new “Blondi”

As a dog lover myself (I have 5) all of mine are (like myself) mongrels. I can see I will have to join the kennel club and obtain a real German Shepherd as soon as possible.

Thanks again to one and all for their constructive criticism.
Woof! Woof! And Happy Collecting!

Andy,

as both, a German Shepherd lover and a K&C fan, I thank you! You are a real gentleman.

All the best,

Cool, we're getting a new dog. Now of course the ugly Betty, sorry Blondi, will be a collectors item. He's a canny Scott that Andy :D

Andy I cast my vote when I bought the set. What do you mean remake? Will it be available as a seperate piece?

Actually I'm not surprised people protested about Blondi. Dogs are much more popular than toy soldiers. Toy soldiers collectors are just a few thousand, 20,000 or 50,000, maybe. Dog owners, on the other hand, are hundreds of millions worldwide!

Just check how many pet shops are on your neighborhood, and compare to how many toy soldier stores there are in the same area: There's over two dozen pet shops close to my house, but no toy soldiers stores...
:D

Cheers...
