Dispatches is up! (3 Viewers)

Hi Guys,

One of the reasons I prefer Polystone is its durability (as a few posters have said). It can take the knocks and hard handling some models get.

I also like the “heft”… there’s something about picking up and holding a nice big hunk of polystone and metal that is very “tactile”…

Plastic by comparison is beautiful but fragile and over the years can sometimes deteriorate and be prone to chemical reactions.

Having said that I still like it… Heck I’ve even got a 1/72 Avro Lancaster made by airfix (back when Granny was a boy) that Gordon and me built and painted in the mid 60’s!!!

Anyway, I know I am biased but I also love Polystone!

Best wishes and happy collecting!

My only problem with plastic is the durability factor. They can sure be built to a terrific degree of detail but they just don't have the weight to withstand the bumps and accidents that they will encounter over the years. Even the benign activity of dusting can be disasterous. Depending on the adhesive used, plastic has a finite shelf life, too. I just like the heft and durability of the current polystone in use. Polystone tanks (or whatever vehicle, plane, etc.) tend to stay where you put them. Floor vibrations can cause creep with plastic. I just think the weight is a definite advantage for polystone. -- Al

I completely agree Al; these are all reasons why I prefer K & C's polystone and metal beasts. I forgot to take into account how plastic has a "finite shelf life" and may react differently over time to a selected adhesive. This may actually be the most crucial factor of all in terms of "weighing" the attributes of polystone and metal vs plastic. I am going to get back to my shelf dusting now, and I am pleased to say I have no worries whatsoever of knocking anything off of my shelves :p;):D.

Maybe its just me, but I wouldn't put a plastic model in my Polystone collection,it just doesn't belong there. I personally think plastic kits, although great fun to build, are an inferior product and belong in a collection of their own.Its apples and Oranges to me, and although I could probably do a reasonable job on the model it still wouldn't belong there. Just my view though as I say.

I have to agree Rob I would not mix and match king and country with plastics models

I have Dragon 1/35 armour range that come already built and it some of the best looking armour you can buy ,problem is you can't get soldiers in that scale and that why I now collect 1/30

Yes I've made many Tamiya kits in my time and really like them, but they are definitely a stand alone thing. Its Polystone for me these days:cool:

All my old plastic kits both built and unbuilt are in the loft and, agree with others I would not put them with other pieces especially, 1/30th. Having seen accidents with both types I think you can get away with fixing both. Polystone has a great resiliance and can be manipulated easily (as some of my conversions attest). I have seen bits of fender etc broken off and can be asily glued sanded and repainted without even knowing there was a break. Its also a relatively cheap medium can you imagine what a 1/30th AFV would cost in metal alone????

Kit wise I only now do 1/350th scale warships and use Trumpeter, Tamiya and dragon. In relation to the importation of plastic build quality etc into 1/30th scale. I would venture that it has not really worked IMO.

I own many K/C and Figarti products which are polystone/metal...I think that better detail and weathering can be achieved with plastic moulds with photo-etch parts ....however I also do like the feeling of some weight in models.....I have recently pre-ordered some K/C new releases because I think they are well done in the K/C style. Hey Vezzolf, did you go for any of the Bulge releases?. Just when I thought I could concentrate on D Day,Arnhem and RAF...out come the Bulge releases:cool::)
