Display Question (1 Viewer)

Do any collectors display their figures in a stagnant, stand alone style?

I know many members post photos of figures in dioramas but I rarely see photos of figures and vehicles by themselves.
In the early years of the forum, the majority of photos were of soldiers or tanks on Bare Shelves, maybe with a plastic tree or whatever, very few collectors displayed their collection in dioramas. However the increasing level of detail promoted an increased interest in displaying in dioramas similar to plastic kit hobbiests. And of course the increasing expansion of Digital Photography also made it easier to post photos on the forum. Consequently the number of members displaying their collection in dioramas continued to increase, and it combines several hobbies; Toy Soldiers, Diorama Construction and Photography.

Thanks for all of the replies to my thread.

These aren’t the best photos in the world but here are a couple of photos of how I display figures.

First, is Trophy Alamo, Wild West and K & C Alamo.

Second, Trophy Town & Country range.

Third, Trophy Raj. As you can see it’s a little crowded. I have sold off a couple of sets to make it less dense.

Again, each of us has to do it the way we like it. One size doesn’t fit all.

Years before I got into the premium 1/30 scale toy soldiers, I collected 1/18 scale 21st Century Toys armor and planes and 1/32 scale FOV armor, but outside a couple of the old FOV diorama sets, displayed those vehicles sitting in rows on a shelf. When I got into seriously collecting 1/30 scale - and after joining this forum and seeing a lot of the other members amazing dioramas and scenes - I decided to display my tanks and planes in dioramas. The figures and vehicles are beautiful and expensive, so I think they need to be displayed attractively.

I adopted my “picture frame vignette” style instead of doing large layouts as a means of keeping a scene focused on a vehicle or two and a select number of figures as well as way to have more out on display. My displays are usually 11”x14”; 12”x12”; 9”x12”; 8.5”x11”; 8”x10” and 5”x7” with a few smaller displays and occasionally I’ve done a larger 12”x24” one.

Here’s some examples:

11”x14” Display with First Legion Vietnam War M113s and figures:

9”x12” Display with JJD Panther & W. Britain Figures:

3”x5” Display with War Park 2cm Flak Gun:

8”X10” Display with JJD Stug III & War Park figures:

5”x7” Display with First Legion Panzer IV and tank rider figures:

These picture frame dioramas and vignettes all look brilliant Tristan.
Looking forward to seeing your latest aircraft revetment creation when completed.

I only buy figures to place in a diorama. My philosophy is the figures are "icing on the cake." I like seeing everyone's figures, regardless of where they are placed.
