Do You Choose Sides ? (3 Viewers)

The chair is twisted and bent, so what's the use of siting on it ;)

Why not just leave it in the corner and ignore it

So to return to the original-ish thread.Do other people have an inbalance in their collections?.For instance obviously the allies in my collection outnumber the Germans in troops on the ground, however in tanks its absolutetly the reverse. So many German tanks out there that my US/Brit tanks have no chance,at least i have the M10 and the 76mm Sherman.I need a Firefly Andy!

I have a balance in my 1/72 collection as I buy model aircraft, tanks and military vehicles from all the beligerents in WWII.

However there is a definite imbalance in my 1:30/32 collection as I mainly stick to German vehicles and figures because of the greater cost of these larger models. The German stuff just seems more attractive to me mainly because of the camo colors they used on their uniforms and tanks and this is especially true of the Waffen SS gear that features heavily in my collection.

Yes the vast majority of my German troops are Waffen SS,thats one reason i'm looking forward to the FJ's for something a little different.I would love to start collecting 1/72 scale troops and vehicles, but it would be financial suicide.I collected them as a kid and the thought brings back happy memories, maybe just a few sets wouldn't hurt!

Morning Rob.

Surprised that you haven't got the Churchill tank and the British Sherman, they look quite nice (to a Napoleonic collector).

I reckon I'll get some of the new FJ's as well, I also have several A/Korps sets and some LAH figs.

With 1/72 scale I mainly buy diecast tanks vehicles and aircraft because I haven't got the time or patience for making up plastic kits. There are a number of different 1/72 diecast brands on the market and the models don't cost much and have terrific detail for their size. For someone that wants to get a large cross section of models I reckon 1/72 is a good compromise on size (space saving) and price: http://www.diecast72.com/default.asp

The majority of my figures are 1:30/32 scale as it's hard to get good detail in 1/72 stuff but Dragon made some nice 1/72 US D-Day Rangers to go with their Landing Craft diorama set: http://www.diecast72.com/pictures/dragon/dragon205.jpg

I thought we were pulling each other's chain on this back and forth - sorry if you took it personal. We all have discussed that no one could beat the Nazi's by themselves and it need a entire group effort (English, Russian and American) to win the war. My postings were indeed in jest.

This forum has too many people who take things way too seriously - I will avoid future postings in a joking/pulling chain format. If anyone else was offend - I apologise - its was not meant to be a serious discussion.

Lets all try to lighten up here.

No Ron, I didn't take it personal, because I've got a life outside of this forum. Seemed serious enough to me though, and don't forget there was a young lad involved in the discussion whom I and a few others were trying to point in the right direction regarding taking some depictions of historical events with a pinch of salt.
Suggest you get back to posting NAPOLEON in large fonts. You might make make Field Marshall without having to make any effort. And BTW don't give up the day job, cos despite delusions of grandeur, your posts aren't in matter of fact - all that funny anyway. :)

Okay, now that is out of the way;
Yes I've seen some of the Dragon 1/72 AFV's and the detail is incredible. Tempting, but I think I'll stick with 1/30 and 1/32 for the time being.

Hey Jeff,

Yes i have those two tanks but gave the example of the 76MM Sherman and the M10 as bigger punchers as it were. All my allied tanks together would not be able to hold back half the German armour i have.

Thanks Oz,i really like the figures coming off the landing craft very good indeed. Also never knew there was such a wide range of tanks available in 1/72.

For me I always buy more of the "bad guys". They always seem to be cooler looking. :)Therefore, my Wehrmacht and German soldiers way outnumber my American.

Hello, all,

Though I may have a preference for one side in any period, I'll buy figures from both sides.

So, for my figures of Frederick the Great's army, I do have French, Austrians and Russians to oppose them. I have a long-range project to make a diorama based on the Battle of Minden, which features the Allied (ie, allied to Prussia) army on the one side, with mostly Hannoverian, Brunswick, Hessian and Prussian (very small Prussian) contigents, facing an invading French army under de Broglie.

And for our War for Independence, I have Brits to put against my Continentals.

I don't collect any of the Nazi figures (apologies to Mr. Neilson and other producers), as a personal choice. For me, the Nazis as a subject would cancel out the "toy" quality of figures I collect. Just my own choice, I don't apply that as a judgement to other collectors. And I do include Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine models in my scale modeling, as well as IJN aircraft. To me, scale modeling is the other side of the collecting coin from toy soldiers, and historical accuracy counts more there, as opposed to the light-hearted play of toys.

Regards,
Brad
