Cheers Mark, backdrop is picture off the internet, I just typed Ancient Roman Street Scene into google, which threw up a lot of ideas.

Those Romans certainly had weird tastes Mike compared to what modern Western cuisine is the norm, and as varied as that can be whether it be say as common hearty bowl of Goulash in Hungary or Cheeseburger in McDonald's just about anywhere.
But just the thought of some of the things the Romans seemed to enjoy, at least the richest of society, makes me feel queasy, of course the poor and those of more modest means would have been a more mundane list of foods, porridge maybe or bread and cheese, for everyday eating, rather than say the stuffed doormice that might be served on a special occasion, then some modern Eastern delicacies aren't too appealing to me either.
Tried fried Grasshopper and earthworms in Thailand once, drew the line at fried Scorpion !
Though I much prefer Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding !

I agree for the most part. But Yorkshire pud is rare and usually awful here. Grasshopper may be easier to digest.
