Great 79th anniversary layout. The 80th no doubt will be even more spectacular. Robin.

My Dad served as an artillery observer for 110 field artillery, 29 Division. I took him to see "Saving Private Ryan." He never said a word during the movie. When walking home after movie, I asked what he thought. "I don't remember no **** tanks on the beach, the water was deeper than said, the water was colder than they said. He told me as he was running up the hill the guy behind him stepped on an anti personnel mine. That's when became worried about his futures as a forester.

Your dad was definitely a hero for his actions, other things you told me, Steve. The 29th, as you know was a Maryland, VA, NJ Nat'l Guard organization prior to the war. Sadly, the division patch, The Blue and The Gray, is now controversial for representing the 116th Reg't which traces lineage back to the Stonewall Bgde.

Regarding the movie, I had the honor to speak many yrs ago to a long retired Ranger major. He landed on Omaha Beach on D Day (a real life version of the officer portrayed by T Hanks). I asked him if he had seen Saving Private Ryan. He told me he didn't watch war movies or visit the battlefields. But spoke with his Ranger buddies and they said it was like being there.
