Inspired by Mike/mestell's repaint post, I wanted to depict the US Marine battalion in support of the two howitzers of Griffin's Battery D, 5th US Artillery at the First Battle of Bull Run. Hope it's okay to include the Britains artillery figs here to complete the dio. I plan to do a few more Bull Run dios as JJD releases the figs. And one for Antietam, but that will be a WB effort. Guns and gunners,

just what I love to see !

Can almost smell the soke from those fire breathing monsters as they pour forth their rain of lead ....

Well done,

John

This is a fantastic dio Chris. Thanks for sharing. Michael’s repaints of the marines have been a big influence on many collectors.

Thanks Mike, the officer is from the 54th Mass release, converted for this scene. Chris

Thanks Chris. I realized that was the 54th officer after I looked at my collection of ACW officer figures. Did you remove the brass from the top of the kepi or just over painted the brass? If you removed the raised brass, how?

Well, I considered filing it down or using putty. But in the end, I just painted over the kepi. {sm2} You can see the raised brass in the photo. Chris

You do know that now I'm going to have to order another 54th officer and paint once again. By the way, I'll be repainting 6 more Marines today that I received on Friday.

Chris,

The Marines look sharp. I do like the Britains artillerymen. Great ground cover and backdrop. As others have said, look forward to the rest.

Really nice diorama, Chris! The terrain and scenery is as nice as the excellent figures. May I ask which brand of grassy mat base that is? Well done! George

Thanks George. The base was custom made by Ken Olsen. Chris
