Eagle Design 1/30 Panzer III (1 Viewer)

Why not copy the K&C or TCS Panzer III; they are molded polystone and far less expensive to manufacturer than the build up process employed by First Legion. The reason I said that their is no rational reason to copy FL is that it would be too expensive. Better to build a superior product as Eagle Designs is doing with metal tracks, wheels and gun barrels. Eagle Designs is copying Minichamps if they are copying anything.

I obviously must work harder to explain my thought processes to avoid misunderstandings of certain concepts i.e. do not copy an existing product, make a better product at a lower cost!

I suspect they do not have the "customer's" mould for K&C or TCS Panzer III as they are not the contract manufacturer for these 2 companies ?

Believe the mould is an expensive item

Guys, this talk of copying is a bit much. Do you seriously think Richard Walker and Treefrog Treasures would sell something we believe to be a copy???

Not intentionally I'm sure but weren't these the same people who made Country Honor? According to Thomas Gunn,

"We stopped using them because their quality was inconsistent (this is putting it mildly and as polite as I can bearing in mind children access this forum!) Some products they made for us simply fell apart after a while, even though they were just sat in the box on our warehouse shelves. These are the same factory that tried to steal FL's figure designs by cloning 2 different figures together, you can draw your own conclusions as to their ethics .

No we would not ever use them again and I doubt they have many reputable manufacturers putting business through them right now.

When we approached them they promised us First Legion quality but could never deliver anywhere near that. A lot of factories will tell you this but not many can actually deliver on this promise.

The entire time we used them (over 2 years) we tried to drill in quality over quantity but the owner always failed to appreciate this.
They were a complete waste of our time and I wish we had never used them is probably the best summary I can give, just in case you were in any doubt.

For those of you who do buy from them good luck is all I can say!"

Emphasis added.

For those who may not know, Country Honor was copying First Legion figures and the dealers that sold them stopped selling them (except to sell off some inventory).

Several Forum members have purchased the Eagle Design Panzer II and have written favorable reviews of it. the Panzer II is not a copy of any other product and is superior in quality and detail to the K&C Panzer II; which to my knowledge is the only polystone 1/30 Panzer II produced to date.
TG had problems with the companies products in the past; but many companies have had product problems that had to be corrected i.e. Figarti paint flaking. Grey market products are a problem; but in this instance that is not the case. I have pointed out before that the unique assemby process of FI Panzers precludes copying on ecconomic grounds alone IMO.

Over on Hobby Bunker, HR pointed out that this is not and Ausf. J like the FL Pzr III, but actually and Ausf. L. It is very much like a 1/35 Tamiya kit of an Ausf L., but probably not copies of either although very similar.

I apologize for any confusion my suspicions generated.

Excuse me for saying this, however, this thread is akin to Trump derangement symdrome.

Hi Guys,

Measurements on the PANZER II are as follows (Panzer III samples are headed my way so do not have measurement yet, I like to do my own):
160mm long
80mm wide
72mm high

Thanks,

Richard

Thank you for the dimensions Richard. When will the Panzer III be available? I am very interested in a DAK version. I hope a Panzer IV H is next. I think these panzers will be very sucessful IMO.

The Panzer III's and II's should be shipping to me early next week. I would hope to have them by week of January 16. Will keep you posted.

The measurements are for the Panzer II. Richard Walker has not yet received the Panzer III from Eagle Design. First Legion has not yet made a Panzer II to my knowledge. I am sure the measurements of the Eagle Design Panzer III will be clost to the First legion Panzer III; as they are both 1/30 scale as is the Panzer II.

Thanks for the link Horus. The photos are very impressive.

This is the seller that has been offering them for some time and who has also sold other items that has elicited a wide and free ranging discussion.

This seller has only just listed them, I think you must be thinking about the Panzer II's they also offer.

About the wide and free ranging discussion. Oh yes that's come and gone and come around again over several threads and years now and Sure to run for longer no doubt !

The Country Honor figures on this Ebay site are grotesque. I cannot imagine anyone mistaking them for First Legion figures. The Panzer II and III are not First Legion copies either and they have metal not plastic tracks; which is a plus IMO.

The ones I bought before they were revealed as being copies of FL sculpts actually blend pretty well. The painting was slightly lighter and less weathered, plus the tartans on the Highlanders were not as accurate. Still, they were pretty good to mix into my Highlanders.

Actually, the Eagle Design is weathered just right! FL goes overboard on there weathering IMO..

Nice looking tank. Not as detailed or as well painted as FL but great value for the money.

Personally I wish they would have picked a different variant of the Panzer III. I never understand why manufacturers always seem to do the exact same models as the competition. This would have been great if it was a short barreled 50mm version without the spaced armor or one of the earlier 37mm cannon versions with the dual MGs in the mantlet.

They need to make a halftrack next. I really would like to see an SdKfz 251 Ausf D SPW from them. I'd buy a couple at this price point.

Weathering is very subjective IMO. I prefer a pristine vehicle that I can weather to my taste; rather than an over weathered worn look. The King Tigers and Panthers used in the early Battle of the Bulge for instance; were mostly new vehicles with factory applied camouflage, not worn out relics of previous battles.
