Eagle Design 1/30 Panzer III (2 Viewers)

Was looking at some pics of knocked-out Pz.III today:

http://ww2live.com/en/content/world...ecapited-destroyed-knocked-abandoned-captured

It occurred to me that the ED model offers the best option for a wrecked vehicle that's currently available in 1\30, not to mention the most affordable. The open-hatch option is nice for such a purpose, as is the elevating main gun, and I assume that the tracks can be broken without damaging the rest of the model. Ought to look nifty in a diorama with some EA posing with their kill.:D

I bought the submarine and two winter Napoleonic figures, they were great sets and worth the money, long delivery time, over a month, but well worth it.

I just receive the Panzer III.That's some pictures of comparison between FL and Eagle Design.

Thanks for the pic's mate, the ED Grey Panzer III looks good in comparison to the FL DAK Panzer III. Pity you didn't buy the ED DAK Panzer III as it would be good to do a comparison of the two DAK tanks.

:salute::I already have a FL DAK Panzer III.It's very good so I didn't buy the ED DAK Panzer III.
I am just a player.I can't tell the difference and can't be sure whether it is a copy.
They are similar.Maybe because both of them are Panzer III.Maybe something else.
To be honest,ED Panzer III is very heavy but there are many details to be improved.

After the initial controversy on this I did some serious research on the difference between an Ausf. J and Ausf. L and discovered that the Ausführung change was more retroactive and gradual.

Technically, the J and L are the same production run and have the same serial number sequence unlike many other Ausführung changes. Essentially, an L is a J that had gone through so many incremental changes that they decided to reflect that in the Ausführung change. It is almost impossible to tell whether a Panzer III is a J or L unless it is on the very end of the production spectrum.

A J with a short 5 cm and no spaced armor on the turret is definitely a J. A J with spaced turret armor, long (L/60) 5 cm, side vision ports for driver and loader and no AA machine gun is probably a J.

A J with the previous specs except no vision ports is probably an L, but not necessarily unless it has the AA machine gun. Long 5 cm and spaced turret armor plus no vision ports with an AA machine gun is almost definitely an L. Unless it is a J with a field mod AA machine gun.

So, hope that is clear as mud.

To confuse Panzer III series production further, many ausf. H hulls were upgraded with a new turret with the 50mm L60 gun. Several photos and 1 museum example exist of this configuration of older hulls and new turrets. Extensive field modifications and repairs give rise to many strange combinations.

I also will pick up the PzIII grey version since it is valid for both African/European theatres.

Is the hull and turret made of plastics ? i.e. the ones used in Tamiya kits

How about the barrel and hatches - are they metal ?

Does it come in a packaging box for storage ?

Would it match with K&C figures ?

Thanks for sharing the photos :salute:: Tempting... very tempting indeed

It's my understanding that the hull and turret are made of resin and that the wheels and tracks are made of metal.

I don't know the answers to the other questions.

The scale is 1/30 per the measurements kindly provided by Richard Walker. The Eagle Design Panzers have been shown in photos with First Legion Panzers on the FL thread in an extensive diorama and it looks very size compatable. FL, WB and Kronprinze figures would be most compatable. The larger figures from K&C, TCS and TG would be oversize IMO.

I have not done the actual measurements, but it is not catching my eye either. Usually, I will feel a disturbance in the force and I have not experienced that yet.

As Katana says, it fits well in my FL collection.

TF will not be stocking the Panzer IIs and IIIs anymore. They posted this on their Facebook page on Monday:

"Were you toying with the idea of picking up one of the Eagle Design Tanks that History Works brought in? Well now is your chance! Our one and only shipment of the Panzer IIs and Panzer IIs arrived today so grab them if you want them! We will not be restocking them.
https://www.treefrogtreasures.com/m-50-del-prado.aspx…"

The questions that come to mind are (i) why and (ii) why not post it here?

That begs the question are TF not restocking the Eagle PzII and PzIII because they are sold out. Otherwise why not restocking? Quality? Copying? And what about future AFVs from Eagle - Will TF stock them?

Well I'm sure that someone will "re-stock them" ....I just purchased 2 Eagle Design Panzer III's..... I have not yet received them...but they appear to be very well done for the price point:smile2:......If a dealer will not stock them, then perhaps "Direct Sales" may be the needed method by Richard Walker.:wink2:.....There seems to be a viable niche market for reasonably priced less detailed 1:30th scale AFV's.......If Eagle Designs would do a grey Stug III Ausf D (short gun).....Early War Version.....I will place my order and deposit NOW.:salute::

Treefrog still shows the Eagle Design Panzer II and III under Del Prado, but noted as retired! My guess is they got a shipment and it sold out quickly and their are no more! Perhaps it was a limited production product like Figarti; 100 pieces and when they are gone thats it! I am sure Richard Walker will answer any questions.

I think the last post on this thread before being lost in the server change was by daruss saying all the AK Panzer III were sold out here. I see all the AK version are gone now on ebay though with some grey and cammo ones remaining on there.
Whether anymore will be listed on ebay and if they will bring out other types, we'll have to wait and see.
Steve

A Panzer III camo version is listed under Del Prado on Treefrog; so some are still available.

I just received the ED DAK Panzer III and I have to say it's pretty bloody good! There was no bits fallen off it from manufacturing or shipping and in my opinion, the quality in detail, paint and weathering is very good. You really can't go wrong with the price and I think they are great value for money. I thought I would do a review and comparison pic's to my FL DAK Panzer III. The FL tank is without a doubt a very detailed and well made tank but what I noticed is that the track to tank chassis never looked quite right in comparison to my K&C Panzer III tanks. What I mean by that is that the bottom track road wheels and top track return rollers seem to be to far apart compared to the actual tank. The ED Panzer III tank looks in my eyes to be better in this respect but again, the FL tank is still very well done with the detail, paint, decals and weathering etc. One other thing I will say is that the ED tank has a nice weighty feel about it even though it's mostly made out of resin, just like the FL tank. The metal tracks on the ED tank would be the reason for the weight and the metal tracks are another feature that I like about this tank. All in all, if your after a cheaper alternative to the FL tank and your not to bothered with the less quality painting and weathering/decals etc and you are after multiples (say a troop of tanks), then the ED tank would fit the bill I reckon.
