Eagle Design 1/30 Panzer III (3 Viewers)

Good Review.....I completely agree with your assessment...Although I prefer the FL Version for it's detail paint and subtle weathering, the Eagle Design Version is very good IMO:salute::....Especially If you want to purchase multiple Panzer III's for creating a tank battle scene....... without breaking the bank:wink2:

Received mine today, and don't have much in the way of complaints. Two small parts (tail-light and spare road-wheel) had come loose from the model, but were easily reattached as the locator-pins were still intact as was the appropriate hole to glue the pieces back on. In terms of comparison to the FL vehicle (which I don't own), I have to say that I prefer the way that FL handled the spare track-sections on the front of the vehicle hull. The ED version has them rendered as being unsecured.:redface2: The metal tracks are nice, but are completely rigid. I don't think that most collectors will want to mess with them for fear of wrecking the attached wheels. Is it worth the money? IMO, you betcha! I collect finished models, and it's unusual to come across anything this nice at so modest a price. Send me more, Eagle Designs, and PLEASE no Panthers or Tigers!:D

Very impressive Panzer III at this price point. The tracks, sprockets and wheels are far superior to K&C and TCS Panzer III models IMO. I think it looks as good as the FL example; but I am not fond of heavy weathering and wear on my models, unless I choose to do it myself. I look forward to what Eagle Design does next. Panzer IV F2 perhaps?

Does anyone know if TF will restock the Panzer III in the Africa corp paint scheme?

Julie said that their was only one production lot of the Panzer III. One and done as she put it! I think one camo version is still on Treefrog last time I looked!

Ok, thanks for the heads up.

Excellent review Tom. Great photos. The size is almost identical with the First legion Panzer III; what are the dimensions?

Other than the weathering they are virtually indistinguishable and the tow cable is better done on the Eagle Design model IMO. Interesting that they are both the Ausf. M version too. The tracks on the FL model seem a bit too slack. Running on sand with slack tracks results in thrown tracks.

I just received the ED DAK Panzer III and I have to say it's pretty bloody good! There was no bits fallen off it from manufacturing or shipping and in my opinion, the quality in detail, paint and weathering is very good. You really can't go wrong with the price and I think they are great value for money. I thought I would do a review and comparison pic's to my FL DAK Panzer III. The FL tank is without a doubt a very detailed and well made tank but what I noticed is that the track to tank chassis never looked quite right in comparison to my K&C Panzer III tanks. What I mean by that is that the bottom track road wheels and top track return rollers seem to be to far apart compared to the actual tank. The ED Panzer III tank looks in my eyes to be better in this respect but again, the FL tank is still very well done with the detail, paint, decals and weathering etc. One other thing I will say is that the ED tank has a nice weighty feel about it even though it's mostly made out of resin, just like the FL tank. The metal tracks on the ED tank would be the reason for the weight and the metal tracks are another feature that I like about this tank. All in all, if your after a cheaper alternative to the FL tank and your not to bothered with the less quality painting and weathering/decals etc and you are after multiples (say a troop of tanks), then the ED tank would fit the bill I reckon.

No worries Kat and the ED Tank is 188cm long (not including the barrel length) and 103cm wide. The height is roughly 81cm from the bottom of the track to the top of the commanders cupola.

I have a grey Eagle Design Panzer III. I can trade for an FL panzer III and cash..

Dimensions look about right for 1/30 if in Millimeters. FYI the actual dimensions of a Panzer III Ausf. M are: Hull Length 5560mm, Width 2900mm and Height 2500mm. Amazing how all the Toy Soldier manufacturers make only the M version. I think only 21st Century made an H version with the 37mm gun in Panzergrau. The nice thing about the 21st Century models is that they are the Cold steel version which is 1/31and works well with 60mm figures.

Just bought a new DAK version on EBAY. Different hull number. Bought it based on Tom's review and others. Not scheduled to be delivered until end of the month. Chris

The size of the eagle Design King Tiger is about the same as the K&C BBG016 and TCS King Tigers 1/27. The Ebay post states the scale as 1/28 to 1/30 scale. The dimensions posted are Hull Length 255mm, Width 140mm, Height 110mm. A 1/30 scale KT should measure: Hull Length 213mm, Width 124mm, Height 102MM. Actual KT size is Hull Length 6400mm, Width 3733mm,
Height 3073mm. The ED KT will work well with K&C, TCS and TG figures, it will not work with Figarti, TG or FL Panzers. I really like the darker camouflage colors on the model and the neat interior details. Tracks are not stated to be metal as they are on the Panzer II & III.

I wonder if Treefrog will have them?

The vendor doesn't say who the manufacturer is, just unbranded !

I have read some comments elsewhere that this KT is similar to the CS one. Overall, the comments weren't very flattering.
