Eichmann (1 Viewer)

Since K & C has answered the question, I'm wondering what there is to discuss. I'm also glad they have decided not to make such a figure.

As I have been down this road several times, I have no desire to again trudge down that road, a development that I'm sure will make Pete, Dave, Scott and Pat very happy :)

At the risk of being hyper analytical- if one says " I'm wondering what there is to discuss" in one sentence and then follows that sentence with " As I have been down this road several times, I have no desire to again trudge down that road etc, etc, etc"- doesn't that sort of imply that there is something to discuss/ discussion-worthy?? :D:p:p

Chris,

With respect to the specific figure, I don't believe there is much to discuss.

With respect to making figures that represent LAH or SA, there is much to discuss. I have made my thoughts known many times and have no desire to go down that road again this particular time. That's all I have to say about the topic.

Regards,

In post #28 above, I set out the question which I don't believe has been addressed. It's really two parts. Does KC take into consideration "sensitivity" factors when deciding to produce or not to produce a personality figure such as Eichmann (e.g. he is just too repugnant) and if so how is Eichmann different from others they have done like Heydrich and LAH? I understand the whole discussion about some collectors not wanting to collect nazi personalities. This is not that discussion. It's just trying to understand how KC makes those decisions. What are the parameters if any? My recollection is Andy gauges collector interest and makes most anything he believes will sell. Such as the LAH. But are there limitations to that? The only thing I remember him say along those lines is that he would not do a concentration camp. Is that because it would not sell or does he believe it would be offensive or both?

Why don't you just email Andy as he the only one who can tell you what he will & what he won't make

I wonder if one of the things with the Heydrich set was that it depicted him getting his at the hands of the heroic resistance, I remember at the time several people saying this was a driver behind them buying the set.

Andy has said before that he would not do concentration camp victims, I'm sure they would not sell but knowing Andy and talking to him about this I believe the main reason is that he thinks it would be going too far and would offend people. Now we can all have opinions on the SA figures and they are varied and robust, but the Holocaust would be a whole other thing and I do not believe K&C would even contemplate it.

Well, I suppose everyone here could do that with their questions and concerns and there would be no need for this forum. However, it might be something of interest to more than just me.

So what your opinion on the subject then ?

Hi Combat,

I would go ahead and email Andy and ask him your questions. Then ask if you can post the answers so you can share with the others who may want to know what the decision making cycle looks like. Otherwise this is an exercise in futility.

If your question is whether it's offensive and/or whether it sells, you're digging deeper than probably K & C would want to say nor do I see it as necessarily relevant.

Chris...

I don't take anything personally on this site. I agree they also tried to kill my grandfather and two uncles and, I can fully understand why people have such emotive issues with the people who they have or are fighting.

I also see nothing wrong with a black and white world though, for me, in this instance its a bit grey around the edges. My interest as it is in a criminological sense is this notion and, we as a society have done it with child murderers and serial killers and, in this discussion, the nazi's that we demonize the individuals because we cannot understand or, possibly do not wish to understand their motives.

Now, I am interested in that particular aspect of the psyche and in particular the motives for the likes of Hoess commandant of Auschwitz and as combat raised it Eichmann. The office murderer as had been dubbed. Its not just about understanding why cultured educated people would do this but, also understanding the times they were active.

Now, you also raised a great point about toy soldiers and reality and I admit that I can do that as its a hobby and some cannot and cry for a range to be ended which, goes against everything I believe and what our grandparents fought for IMO.

I made in my first post a distinction about those who abhore the regime and then have other SS items easily in their homes compared to parade figures and, it was clear I find it strange that some who make the link from toy soldier to death camp head shots or mass train deportations should take the moral position to its conclusion and not have any SS etc and police units full stop as, if they are taking the link you mentioned between toy soldier and reality it applies to all the units who participated in the action against the peoples of europe.

Thats my black and white take on those who condemn a range but, have, the same units in a different portrayal in their home or, those who then seek to call outright or in a clandestine manner a nazi sympathiser or similar for saying the nazi's were all not devils with horns. In that manner then Arendt was a sympathiser as she said '' the trouble with Eichmann was that so many were like him, and that the many were neither perverted nor sadistic, that they were and still are terribly, and terrifyingly normal'' she also said he was not anti semitic nor, ideologically driven and was just over zealous to an absolute totalitarian regime

Hey Mitch-

again, please do not take this personally, but those SOB's tried to kill my grandfather- I am a pretty simple person when it is all said and done. German and Japanese- bad, American and British- good. Iraqi/AL qAEDA Terrorist bad- American and British Good- sorry, but to me, the world is pretty black and white. I could absolutely care less why the baddies do what they do, just so long as my rifle sight (or the sights of my ancestors and allies) are true.

Again, I am a huge fan of Rome and do have a modest interest in the German Wehrmacht. I can appreciate where you are coming from- I am just too simple to delve too deeply into it.:eek: At the end of the day, the question that each collector needs to ask themselves is- can they separate toy soldiers from reality. If you can separate the LAH ideology, which I certainly believe you do, then you are ok. But, after years of going to conventions, wargaming shows, etc, there are some of our bretheren who I have to sit back and wonder.

FWIW- Based on this discussion- I did go to Wikipedia and read about Eichmann and Mengele- I only knew who they were (ie bad guys) and not all the surrounding information. Good, bad or indiffferent, I did learn sumpin :D

..and that hasn't changed my opinion- 2 in the chest, one in the head!! :D:p

Chris...

Now Mengele was a nasty piece of work. No problem with the end outcome except we hung them not shot them as it was seen as somehow a more noble death to be shot but, I would have jailed them first for a good few years to get more information about those twelve years then passed sentence.

Spot on, and still we have Holocaust deniers, some of whom have been jailed. They stand as a testament of what really went on with the Nazi's.
