Euro 2008 (2 Viewers)

Rod,

Unfortunately, the jogo bonito is not well appreciated in this country.

Brad you are a really Football Connoisseur, not too bad for an Americain (joke...:D..)! I second you on your predictions, but be carefully with Spain X Italy, I am not sure of the capability of the Spanish team to beat the Azuri.

Rod.

Come on Italia!,they have a knack of turning a disaster into victory somehow, they will need it against Spain though.

We have a good game this afternoon Portugal X Germany.....our friend VIRIATO Paulo, will be anxious...

Rod,

Talking about JOGO BONITO I listened yesterday via-Internet Brazil X Argentina for the WC 2010 qualifications, it seems that was one of the ugliest game between this two teams ever, it finished 0 X 0....

Yo Troopers did say Portugal would not win it if you look back through the thread, worst defenders I have seen for an international team, great to watch going forward, but you have to stop the other team from scorering DOH. My money is still on the Dutch or Croatians.
Bernard.

Well, yes,I have to admitt that you were right:(. 2 setpiece goals given away like that...The ever powerful Germans kill you off in seconds with that defending. Well, the Ballack goal ( header ) was a masterpiece, you can't blame the defender too much, just a subtle push on Ferreira's back ( with both hands though:D ) and he is alone to head the ball past the keeper:D ( a foul but the ref doesn't have slow motion and football is not played at Eton anymore:D). I was not optimistic before this game, a quarter final against Germany is a way out ticket for most teams in the world, even the best face a high losing chance:D. But like you say, from the defense forward we put up a good show. So near, yet so far: this is the small difference that sets us apart from the Brazils, Italys and Germanys of footballing world:(. Anyway, thanks for some nice predictions guys, maybe next time.
P.S.
Loved Ballack, Schweinsteiger,Podolski or Klose, these are all world class players and they showed it. A frightening team they make. For Portugal loved Deco and Simão, they held and passed the ball very well.

Regards,
Paulo

Nil nil at home, that's not too good but I believe you'll go to the World Cup as always. The team indeed lacks something, what is going on with Kaká ( to me the best in the world ) and Ronaldinho? Fabiano up front? Who is the coach now?

Um abraço,
Paulo

yes my friend lets focus for South Africa 2010, Portugal has a solid base and can do better than this year. Concerning Brazil, there are two ways of thinking:

1: for the optimists, every time Brazil has problem to qualify they win the Cup, 1970, 1994 and 2002....:D

2: less optimist, is my point of view. We need to change Dunga as coach and mix the old guys like Ronaldinho with the new ones.

Se cuide Viriato, um grande abraço.

What a disappointing match, feel bad for Paulo and all of Portugal. Germany really clogged up that middle but Portugal had some chances and just didn't capitalize. A real shame. I thought they would be in the final.

Yo Brad, couln't say it was disappointing with five goals, good game to watch, but the Germans took them down. Big prediction for you, big Phil Scolari will be a big flop in the premier this season, he lives on the glory that Brazil won the World cup. If I was manager of Brazil they would win every World cup, they are like the Cavalry in the British army different class DOH. Think Barcelona have lost the plot chucking Deco out, saying he is not in our plans, he is one of the best players in the world at the moment.
Bernard.:D

Thanks Brad, I was not that confident because after all the Germans are used to being in finals and we are not that much used, it's this mental thing, sport history always bears some weight after all. Well, but it's just football after all, there are more important things around, like...toy soldiers:D

Cheers Paulo, I thought Moutinho's injury made a big difference to Portugal's play, and putting on Veloso who has better range of passing and also creative, would have been more helpful.

Portugal didnt play badly, but teams like Germany and Italy are masters of knockout football. I think Italy would nick Spain, and Holland will lose out in the semis.

That boy Ronaldo better stay at Old Trafford.

Yeah, Moutinho and Veloso are two lads from my favorite club, Sporting Lisbon ( who also brought up Ronaldo ), but probably they won't stay for long:D. On Ronaldo, well, the novel has just started:D. I agree he should stay at Man U, a better team than Real at the moment. Real for the last years has been looking like a real mess. But possibly they are offering him a higher pile of money than Man U. Stay tuned...:D

On Germany and Italy, I wouldn't bet against them, but Holland or Croatia, or even Spain look very good at the moment. Let's see what «mata mata» ( kill kill, to use Scolari's expression ) turns out like. Somebody said, however, that football is a game played by eleven players from each team and in the end Germany wins...:D

Regards,
Paulo

Paulo,

Sporting Lisbon is a hotbed of talents, and my favourite team Manchester United, has currently 2 of them - Ronaldo and Nani.

I do hope Man U do get both Moutinho and Veloso, 2 cultured, intelligent players.

Chances are however, Chelsea will be the one getting them, after all they already have Carvalho, Ferreira and Bosingwa, and have Scolari as their new manager. deco is also on then way there.:(

And what cheek Scolari of advising Ronaldo to move, when he is about to take Chelsea's managerial position.

Losing Ronaldo will be a blow, but Man U losing coach Quieroz to Portugal will be the major setback.

And regarding Portugal, it beguiles me , how a nation which produces so many excellent wingers, defenders and attacking midfielders, struggle to produce great strikers.

Rumour I've heard is Moutinho is heading for Barcelona and AC Milan are interested in Veloso. If you like Man U you're a men of good taste, but my favorite English team used to be...LIVERPOOL ( sorry about that :D). Well, about Liverpool, I don't know what to think of the team nowadays, the team I loved was from the golden seventies, eighties and early nineties...
I like Kaka better than Ronaldo, but hey, it's hard to argue with more than 40 goals a season  If Ronaldo leaves for Real Madrid, I think it'll be a dumb move ( Owen, Beckham, Nistelroy, Robinho they all became club losers like their new team:eek:).
Portuguese strikers, well probably too many foreign, especially Brazilian ( no offense Rod ) strikers playing in our league blocking the way for young strikers to come up:(
