Euro 2012 (2 Viewers)

Congrats to Portugal on making it through. Parabens aos meus amigos Portugueses.

However, it is difficult to understand what happened to the Dutch, especially since they were WC finalists only two years ago.

At any rate, I see another Portugal Germany match soon. I just hope there are different results this time. How great would it be if the Euro Championship is a championship for the best Iberian team!

Well, watching everything from a Brazilian perspective, couldn't be happier with Portugal`s victory and hoping they can make their way up to lift that cup!!! Spain and Germany will do their best to spoil it...

congratulations paulo
we tried but lost to a better team.
we have good players but no team.

Thanks Richard, you have excellent players and have always had, but things didn't go right this time. But through the years I have always enjoyed Dutch football, which can be very beautiful and brilliant. Cruyjf, Van Basten and Gullitt come to mind amongst many others.

Thanks Brad, the best team I have so far seen is Spain, tough mountain for anyone to try and climb, playing beautiful fast passing football. But Germany is also the usual solid rock. France is also looking very good. I would rate these as the main favourites but anything can happen in the knockout stages.

Obrigado amigo! Mas como eu disse atrás, parece-me que os favoritos são os 2 que falou acima e a França. Vamos ver o que acontece no mata mata, como dizia o Scolari!

Abraço,
Paulo

Paulo,
Portugal deu um show hoje!
Carlos

I have not seen the England game yesterday, but from highlights and having watched the previous 2 games, it looks like the trend for England is: good defensive play, relatively poor offensive play, Chelsea like control of matches. Not exactly Spain's beautiful game but sensible efficient strategy according to available resources by brilliant coach Hodgson?:rolleyes2: The fact, IMHO, is that England are grinding out the results, much better ones than at the last World Cup, and some individuals are shining (Parker, Wallcott, Wellbeck, Gerrard, Terry). Yesterday they were lucky the ref didn't spot Ukraine's valid goal, but apparently there had been a Ukraine player offside in the buildup. Part of the game at least until technology get's brought up to these situations.
Now against Italy things will be tougher, but anything can happen I guess.:wink2:.

None of the "big guys" I saw in their third game, which were Germany, Spain and England, were very impressive in my opinion.
Think they all have to "bring it up a notch" when they go into the knockout round now.

Here is what UEFA's Chief Refereeing Officer Pierluigi Collina said.

I think it is time for Goal-Line Technology.

Raymond:rolleyes2:

Sorry Raymond have to slightly disagree - goal line technology would have seen the goal awarded BUT...would have missed the offside when the ball was first played forward into the England half.

Football needs to do what cricket and tennis do where you have so many appeals in a match to a video umpire / ref - this should include penalties, red cards, offsides etc.

In rugby they use video refs also for tries - if that was used in the England match then they would see the ball crossed the line but it was from an offside position and would have been disallowed.

I guess that the technology that might be used to judge goal line situations might also be used to judge offsides, after all there is also a line for offside situations.

Paulo

You don't want to become a slave to technology. It will disrupt the flow of the games. I would leave it to scoring plays. Offsides is a judgment call. I would still leave it in the hands of the linesmen.

When in doubt why not use the NBA system and stop the game for a video review of the issue?

Paulo

Gentlemen, my apologies. The video clip that I put up can no longer be viewed.

I selected this clip as it showed not only the ball crossing the goal line, but also the build-up of the attack from midfield.

Paulo, congratulations again for the Portugese victory! Cristiano Ronaldo é o cara!

Obrigado! Now another fine performance from «my» team, including Ronaldo, we're finally getting to see what he can do even under heavy defence... But for those that like soccer, Portugal is far from being Ronaldo alone. Take a closer look at Porto's João Moutinho (the one that yesterday put the ball on Ronaldo's head for the goal...): this midfielder's work rate and talent have been limitless. The back four have been doing great too.
Now, a clash against either Spain or France, much tougher stuff (and not great results before against either of these 2):rolleyes2:... But we'll see, so far a great ride, «we» are already amongst the top 4, excellent.

Sorry bit late to this thread. We play possibly the ugliest football of all the teams left in there, but we are still in there swinging! So come on ENGLAND! Although Spain have to be faves don't they?

Funny but during the World Cup when England had clearly put the ball over the line, Mr Blatter did not seem at all interested in goal line technology, but all of a sudden he wants it now!^&grin
