Euros 2016 (2 Viewers)

An outstanding result. The French are shocked but they played fitfully and Griezmann did very little. Portugal didn't mind winning ugly and they did but their defense was overwhelming and Pepe was fantastic.

The championship stays in Iberia!

Congrats to Portugal indeed! This was not a good day for France but they did have a great cup overall and it is still a very young team. On to the World Cup in 2 years...:wink2::wink2:

It was a completely surprising result, one that could not have been expected.

Congrats to Portugal. I don't think many of us expected this result. I know I didn't, especially after CR couldn't continue. After the game some commentators had harsh criticisms regarding Portugal's game plan, but I don't agree with that. France had to expect this style of play, but they just couldn't find the net. France seemed to be tightly wound and uncertain at times. Perhaps they were feeling the pressure of an entire nation build as the game wore on. Hats off to Portugal's coach for changing tactics late in the game and bringing in a forward. Btw, am I the only one who thought France's goalie was late to react to Eder's shot? In any case, the defense backed off, and he got a skipping shot to go. This moment was instantly imprinted into the memories of Portugal's fans who have been waiting so many years for this. I also thought Portugal's goalie had a wonderful game. CR apparently gave a rousing half time speech to the club, keeping his chin up as a captain should and not sulking. Life is so strange sometimes....I recall teams from Portugal who I thought were much more dangerous who couldn't get this far. Congrats to France for leaving it all on the field. Their victory over Germany was impressive, and we have not heard the last of the French side.

Portugal's strategy was to basically park the bus. They had no attempts most of the match. Once they lost Ronaldo, their strategy was probably to force PKs. Not pretty, but effective. Lloris didn't see Eder's shot (which wasn't the greatest shot) until too late. Pepe was the key man here. The French were a bit unlucky at times too.

I don't think the French, or for that part, most teams, were that impressive in the tournament. They got a gift goal from the ref in the semis. That changed everything. Until then, Germany has been the better team but they weren't so great either; has Muller shown up yet? France beat Iceland to get to the semis but that team was living on borrowed time.

Hello Brad,
Thank You very much for keeping this thread going. As usual it does not feel good now that everything EURO 2016 is over and we are facing a long wait for the next big tournament to start.
Hope we can rely on your services again{sm4} Great show anyway, thanks a lot.
Kind Regards
Wolfgang

It was my pleasure Wolfgang. I was fortunate to watch the Germany France with many German fans at our hotel outside of Munich. I was looking forward to a celebration which unfortunately never came.

The leagues should be back in about 4-6 weeks and then we will have World Cup qualifying so that is something to look forward to.

However, you still have that empty feeling when a big tournament ends.
