Exciting K&c News From West Coaster!!! (2 Viewers)

Amen, Rob. He is not called the Viscount Montgomery of Alamein for nothing.

OK OK - Just Kidding...:D :p ... White Flag

I like MONTY too. He did a great job in NA - although you have to admit a little stuck on himself - SO WAS PATTON - but, in all reality both GREAT GENERALS and together greatly helped the ALLIES win WWII.

Actually if you do a search, there have been some very heated discussions about Patton and Monty. This one is rather light hearted.

Well said.
I can't be doing with the arguements. I much prefer the funny comments and the craziness :D

Hey James will you be buying all the paras in one go and which building society will you be knocking over to do it?!

Rob

What's this forum coming to when a Monty v Patton arguement doesn't devolve into personal abuse :D

Hey Oz,yeah look at us all grown up.All we've got to argue about is Cricket now mate!

Yes it is my ambition to get them all in one go. I can only accomplish this by going slow for the rest of the year.

At London i'm going to get the Winter Panther from Kevin.
Birmingham is the week before and I'm going to get a DAK set. Probably the MG32.

Here's an idea.....

There are some fine minds on this forum.... and Ron :D (only kidding!)

Together surely we could plot the perfect crime. We all could bring a talent to the plan.
It would be like Ocean's 30 or something. :)

I'm loving this plan hehe

Come on let's argue about something. How about Rommel being the most overrated of the German generals? Thus Monty's "victory." There were at least a dozen German generals who were Rommel's superior. His reputation is largely the result of Nazi propangada, allied incompetence that resulted in their commanders using Rommel's "genius" as an excuse for defeat and the fact that the man took a good picture. The German military hierarchy had no confidence in his abilities and shelved him to secondary theatres. He was even removed from Italy once the fighting began and replaced with Kesselring. One of the better decisions by Hitler. Kesselring fought a hell of a campaign in Italy. They were still fighting there at the end of the war. Compare that to Rommel's disasterous Atlantic Wall.

Now now that's a big fib isn't it.?

Rob

Ok Combat, I've always liked Rommel but as with Patton he was an attacking General, and didn't pay to much attention to his logistic support. He basically lost the war in the desert because he didn't protect his supply line as well as he could have. But later in the war he had some good ideas and increased the defences along the French coast as much as he could in the time permited. I think if the Germans adopted Rommels idea of placing most of the German armor near the beaches the Aliies would have had a much harder time.

Hitler sure did stick a spanner in the Normandy works with his splitting the armour deployments didn't he?.Can't really underestimate how much his interference ruined the German army's chances throughout the war.Rommel was very astute wasn't he.He knew as soon as the allies established a bridgehead the war was as good as over.In fact wasn't he on his way to convince a fellow officer about the need to surrender when his car was shot up?.
