Figure Stuffing (1 Viewer)

I collect armor and vehicles and almost no WW2 figures. If I get xtra figures with my vehicle, to ebay they go, since I do not care a mouse butt about future market overvalue.........Michael

I'm almost the opposite of Michael in his post above. The draw for K&C (to me) is the figures and accessories. No offense to Andy, but for those who have followed my historical/accuracy comments about K&C, if I want a particular model of a tank, I can build it better than K&C. With K&C I get the fine figures, and the "art" that goes into Andy's poses and suggested scenes. For instance, I am currently dithering about the K&C M12. I have started the Academy kit in 1/35th scale and, if I ever get it done, it will be a good representation of this artillery vehicle. What tips the scales for me is looking at that gun crew that Andy provides with his version of the M12. This just reinforces that we each have our different tastes and ideas about what we expect from our personal collecting. To each his own.

Each to their own indeed. For me it all depends on the particular set in question and it does vary. For instance i think the extra crew on the Winter Tiger are superb and really add to the set. However i am not so fussed about the extra crew with the SL Sherman. With the MKII for instance i fully agree with Oz,the figures don't really fit in my plans but love the Tank.As he said i don't really think the Italian figures are that popular as with maybe the Russians and Japenese(actually if Tony reads this i'd be interested to know how the Jap figs sell, are they popular?).

I will without doubt be buying the Stug because it looks a wonderful vehicle. As for the figure and signpost i may use them when i get round to buying french FOB figs at some point in the future.I guess its not easy to gauge how many figures should be with every vehicle, you can't please everyone all the time i'm guessing.I must say i don't think many people would buy an add on set of a dead figure and a signpost.Have i got this right when i say the extras even though not wanted by many here would not actually stop many people from buying the Stug?.

I don't think there are any K & C dealers on the Gold Coast but The Military Workshop in Enogerra (a Brisbane suburb) is less than one hour drive from the Gold Coast. If you're not driving you can catch a train to Gaythorn railway station which is only 100 metres from the store.

Thats the place I drive past it to work 2 or 3 times a week too much temptation.

I see that your location has changed from the UK to the Gold Coast :) I did wonder why a guy in England would want to know where a Queensland dealer was, I thought you may have been coming over on holidays or something.

I must be in the minority here as I thought the vehicle sets were better value than the figure sets. For example my next purchase is going to be Desert Transport Sdkfz Halftrack w/2 crew my local dealers sells retails it for $105 AUD and the figure set I purchased last week was the AK Attack set for $110AUD so with 2 full figures with the halftrack are valued to me at $55 so the halftrack is say $50 a bargain (I’d be flat out buying a model kit and paints/glue for that) I grabbed the Panzer II Tank Set also last week retailed here at $137 you could say that it has 4 figures as the commander is virtually a complete figure so figure value to me $110 Panzer II value $27 even better value. I will admit that the black shirts are a unusual choice but North Africa and even the AK was vastly Italian units so I found a space for them.
I would prefer an Italian figure set to have their hands in the air surrendering say 200 of them and 1 Australian with a dessert spoon guarding them.
Funny how I’m the opposite and shy away from figure sets as I feel the vehicles are better value due to the figures. Anyway I’ll let you guys sort it out I’m off to work.

So you would prefer 200 Italians surrendering. Very funny. They probably wanted to go home. They have always been known for being better lovers than fighters. Some of them may have even wanted to open Italian restaurants and do Australia a favor. One thing for sure: The cuisine of the British Isles, and I assume Australia, is not something to write home about. Here in the states there must be at least 10,000 Italian restaurants for every British, Irish, or Australian eating establishment, which speaks for itself. This is one American who has lived in three foreign counties and traveled to about two dozen others. I never had a bad meal during the 2 and one half years I lived in Italy and never had a good one in the British Isles. So you know what he can do with that dessert spoon. Ciao!

Sounds like this is getting a bit personal here.We can't escape the fact that the Italian performance in some campaigns was pretty abysmal but i don't think we need get so upset about it.And this is from someone who had an Italian grandfather!

Maybe the threadtitle got folks confused.

Maybe it should be changed to Sage and Onion Stuffing?

:D And anyway what's so wrong with British food?

Fish and Chips, full English Breakfast, sunday roast, steak and chips and Baltis. what more can you ask for? :)

I know you yanks don't know much about other countries but you shouldn't include Australian cuisine in with other cultures, including the United Kingdom :D

If you had ever been to Australia you would soon discover that Australia has the most culturally diverse cuisine in the world, and some of the best chefs in the world are Aussies. Australia is also the fourth largest exporter of wine in the world, not bad for a country of only 20 million people :)

Here's an interesting link on American/Australian differences: http://www.aussieinamerica.com/Default.htm

You guys cut up your meals with the edge of your forks  Didn't your mummies let you use knives ;)

I think he was probably more annoyed with the one soldier with a spoon thing than an attack on Australian cooking mate.Of course all we eat in Britain is meat pies, whole pigs and lard sandwhiches, never did me any har...mm...my..hear..r..r.rrt...!!!:eek:;)

Not confused at all. I just thought that the disparaging remark was uncalled for. I am fully aware of the performance of the Italian Armed Forces in WWII. That doesn't make Italians, as individuals, some how cowards or what ever. Some people talk the talk, but not that many actually walk the walk. I served for 3 years in the U.S. Army, my brother Joe served for 4 years, my son, Keith, served in the U.S. Air Force, and my nephew, Geoff, is now serving in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman. We were all volunteers and served out of a sense of duty to and love of our country. Oh yeah, my Uncle Joe served as an infantryman throughout the entire war in the Pacific. He spent about a year in VA hospitals recovering from his wounds after the war. My Italian-American family does not take a back seat to anyone regarding military service.

The food reference had to do with the comment that they should have surendered to one Australian with a dessert spoon. With respect to British food all I can say is to each his own. But I do like fish & chips with malt vinegar.

When we think of the Italian role in World War II, we probably shouldn't blame the fighting man but their leaders. Mussolini was interested in having an empire at the expense of France and the UK but he and his military leaders did a very poor job of training the Italian armed forces, giving them proper equipment or devising well organized plans for carrying out campaigns. Greece comes to mind. He sacrificed his soldiers to satisfy his vanity and to show the Germans that they could be just as good as them. Unfortunately, decisions were hastily made, without thought, and it was the Italian soldiers that suffered.

With the greatest respect to you and your familys service its got nothing to do with the awful performance of the Italian army in WW2.Its a fact that tens of thousands of Italian soldiers threw up their hands and surrendered at the first chance they got. This is not a slur against todays Italian nation(my grandfather was Italian) it is Historical fact .In the same way the British disaster at Dunkirk and the American disaster at Pearl Harbour was.You have to accept the good and bad in military History, hard but true.

And i agree about the fish and chips!
