First Legion Update and "The BIG SALE" Announcement (1 Viewer)

I just received some of those Samurais and a Mtd Russian Uhlan. 2 of 5 Samurais Damaged, Uhlan damaged. Pretty sure they are not checked based on packing. I have emailed to see what can be done, I don't care about the price, but if they are obviously damaged from the factory, that is irritating.

On another note, I can tell you from recent vikings, IMO I believe there is damage occurring at the factory, on one, I could tell no one had ever opened it, i started gently picking out foam and came away with an ax handle. It was IMO again, obvious that the figure was put in the box, then foam jammed on top, thus breaking the ax.

The sculpts on most of the figures are very nice and detailed and realistic, but not sure if I am happy on packaging, I open up every one of them immediately upon receipt.

Update, I understand they are non warrantied and I understand why they are being sold at the price they are. Just be prepared for minor surgery if you buy them, but again, to be fair, they are being sold at that cost for a reason. I didnt understand fully the non warrantied footnote, but in the end, I can live with it and I get why they are sold that way.

On the Vikings, absolutely agree with the Foam as the issue. WAY too much and it is just stuffed in, cant do that with the detail of these figures, it is too much and is actually causing the damage (methodology)

FL needs to lessen the amount of loose foam the factory is jamming into every nook and cranny of a figure. I can absolutely see that being the culprit. When I unpack a new FL figure from the last year or two, I can never get more than about 40% of the loose foam back in the box. Nor would I want to, as all that extra foam doesn't really make the figure any more secure. That's my 2 cents.

Hunter.
I agree with you 100%. The last few NAP horse and rider figures I recieved from First Legion, I very carefully and cautiously removed each piece of crammed foam around the figures and still ended up damaging the sets. Even the recent BoB sets were so crammed with foam that paint chip popped up on one of the rifles while removing the foam.
Matt, I hope you're listening.

That's not very good news.

That's not very good news.

Over the years I have more broken figures from FL than any other manufacture. I will go for another batch of sale figures but anticipate some form of damage when they arrive. It does put you off FL a little bit. Expensive figures in comparison with others but something amiss with packaging or factory quality control.

When the Ancient Greeks were on sale we bought a few from FL directly and a few had minor paint chips which we decided weren't bad enough to make them a bad deal for their price. The latest mtd samurai we got from Treefrog is totally undamaged and came with a nice post-it telling us how best to remove the figure from the packaging. It's great! (The green guy). Guess packaging is a problem sometimes from the warehouse. Wondering if we should get the 2 fellows with sashimonos or if they are even more dangerous to ship and open up. Any opinions or ideas?
Thanks Treefrog crew
Best wishes all

I'm really sorry to har this. That's not acceptable at any price. I mean 4 for 4? Wow

So unfortunate for those of you who have received damaged figures. It's been years since I've order any First Legion products, but I feel your pain as I've been in your shoes. FL figures are very nice, but are extremely delicate and I've found that the paint can easily chip off with hardly much effort. I hope all of you experiencing this can get some kind of resolution. As I've said it's been years but I've been thinking of taking advantage of their sale. Now I'm not so sure...

Have you heard back from them regarding the damaged figures and what could be done ?

Wow. Sale or not that outrageous. No excuse period. Where’s the quality control? I wouldn’t be surprised that they didn’t know of the defects.

To be fair, I recently purchased three 17th Lancers two Zulus and a WWII German and all arrived intact. I do agree with the need to lessen the foam pressed against the figures.
I would rather have them fix the foam issue than begin making the weapons oversized, which I'm sure prevents against breakage in shipping and during handling.

It’s sad to hear. The excitement of making a purchase of one or more pieces, waiting on the arrival to find damage, paint flaked etc.

Compared to life's other disappointments this is definitely no biggie. The figures were still nice. Highly detailed figures are naturally more delicate. I'd still recommend those figures. I still feel we got a good product for the dough.
Best wishes

It certainly does suck when something arrives damaged, I know I've had a few. In the last week or so I received 7 more figures and all arrived in perfect shape.

Like you I still recommend these figures and with the sale the prices are even more irresistible IMO. I would really recommend them to collectors who have been maybe kept away by prices they feel out of their range. Would be a great chance to see what us First Legion collectors have been going on about all these years. ^&grin

3 out of 4 orders recently have come with no damage at all. One did have some minor stuff, but it has all been taken care of.

I got an order with no damage at all. Seems to be a crap shoot

I feel some regret for even mentioning a few minor flaws on figs I got over 2 years ago.
Happens all the time to manufacturers. The more delicate and detailed the trickier the packaging and shipping. Before I could post my every thought on social media I never complained.
So, being as close as there is to an expert on high-quality toy soldiers, we could ask you to rate them. But I don't see the point; it's always been about what an individual collector likes. Still, I always value your input and the input of everyone on this forum.
Since my condo finally sold (guess some people don't want to live in Chi right now) I am seriously considering buying many of the great deals this sale has provided, even though I shouldn't.
If I had funds and wanted a horde of Russian style sets, I would take advantage of this sale.
Best Wishes to All
Paddy

Basically, there is no warranty and that is why they are so cheap is due to the issues. Fortunately, I have 2 samurais with very easy fix. The Russian Nap has a scabbard issue that may be a little more difficult.

End of day thought to echo all, they need to rethink the jamming of the foam because IMO, the damage is occuring at the packing stage at the factory. That is where they are getting broken.

TD

some broken figures could be fixed with crazy glue but if it was paint flaking on figures that's another story because that is not easy to strip figures and repaint {sm2}
