First Legion Update and "The BIG SALE" Announcement (1 Viewer)

Update

I am a fairly decent re assembly guy, but I have to say on the no warranty figures, it became a jenga puzzle, ie once I started to fix one thing, its another. The samurai are very fragile and honestly, they are made to open, put out and never touch again. In all seriousness, in my opinion, these particular figures are not structurally very sound. Now, as far as I can tell, it affected 2 out of the 5 I ordered. For the price, does it matter? yes and no, if I would have read/understood in totality, I would not have probably taken the chance. That is just me as I like things perfect.

Also, I do believe they are very aware of the issues on these particular figures and that is why they are sold direct with no warranty.

I'm still waiting for the 3 mounted Samurais and I hope maybe 1 out of 3 is not damaged/paint chips. If they all have issue then it will be the last time I purchase any "big sale" out there.

Some of the prices - particularly for us Aussies - are incredibility low. So I am tempted to go for a second batch after picking up some figures a few weeks ago. The rub is those Samurai I saved up and collected over time would now be 75% off.

Gary

It's just like the stock market.

You are able to buy at bargain prices after the market crash but those stocks you already have are also marked down.

Well, in fairness, our "Big Sale" has around 1200 different figure sets on offer. We removed the warranty from I think 12 figures. So 1% of the figures in the sale don't have a warranty.

And of course they are being sold for $57 or so for a $165 figure, 65% off. We think it's pretty fair.

Tom had issues with a couple. So if he bought 5 of them at $57 each he spent $285. The three without issue at list price = $495 just for those 3. So I think he made out ok. :) And yes, we knew that a few of the codes had issues. Hence why we marked them down so much and removed the warranty. But we marked them all down and not all of them have issues. No matter, we have less than 40 or so figures left in total across all 6 codes of these Mounted Samurai, 3 totally sold out. So they'll be a done deal pretty soon in any case and then only 6 or so figure from the Big Sale won't have a warranty. :)

As I said, in all fairness, the ones I got without issue was a great deal, fixing the others took patience , they are very fragile and detailed. The only one that really drove me crazy was the random Russian!

As I said, I didn't read that well to begin with, on me, but understanding their fragility, if you do have issues, take your time on fixing.

Its been 2 years past when this was brought up to this forum. I was hoping for any of our fellow collectors to comment or at least share anything on their recent purchases from FL on the sale items. Any issues still showing certain series or items that they received damaged or chipped? I was thinking purchasing the AWI 1st Delaware Haslets to add to my collection. Thanks.

40% of those I ordered in a large order arrived broken. not happy. Ive heard from others they had 5-10% arrive broken and someone had close to 90% !!

I wouldnt buy any more unless there was a guarantee they could be returned if they arrive broken - like TGM and K&C and JDD do for new stuff.

I have had two big sale orders. In the first two out of ten damaged and in the second three out of eleven. Ok if it is a detached hand or a loose shield , but if it is a broken bow or helmet plume it’s a bit trickier to repair and disguise. Can’t really send it back from the UK either so in the words of the prophet ‘ You’re stuffed.’ Still grateful though to get the opportunity to buy at that price and glad to see the Phoenix rising from the ashes at last.

Not going to get into a damage discussion as we can only report on what is reported to us. However, our policy with damaged figures in the Big Sale is of course to send replacements. We've probably sold some 50,000+ figures as part of the sale and replaced probably less than maybe 300. Less than 1%.

As for the Haslet's Delaware figures, of those particular figures the damage rate is pretty well non-existent. In fact, off the top of my head i cannot even recall ever sending replacements for Haslets. They're figures not typically prone to damage.

Also understand, our figures are not like and have never been like KC/Thomas Gunn etc. They're much more fine, with far more parts, and are therefore more prone to small issues. It is what it is. We could artificially thicken rifles, make big hands etc or we can keep our sculpting style with ultra detail and face perhaps more issues. Again, it is what it is. But whenever customer's receive a figure with issues, we always provide replacements as regular buyers can attest to.

Further to this, we can't really comment on how issues for figures sold through dealers are handled as compared to figures sold directly from us. I suspect there's a variance to some degree.

Again, our policy when buying direct from us for Big Sale Items is that:

1. We will send replacements at no cost with your next order.
2. We do not require the return of the damaged figure.

In 15 years, we've never really done wrong by our customers. But again, as i stated in the other thread, we aren't sure about dealer policies, i can only tell you what we do for direct sales.

And for new figures, we've always had the same policy similar to other companies though most often we don't even ask for the figure to be returned - we just send a replacement. For the Big Sale we send the replacements with the next order simply because we're selling the figures so inexpensively that the shipping costs actually matter a lot more.

It's funny that these comments are coming on here because generally speaking (there are certain code exceptions for sure) our figures don't typically suffer too much damage particularly relative to their complexity.

I attest to that, Matt has always provided replacements for damaged figures, always!

I probably own 100-200 First Legion figures, and maybe three have had any issues. Two I purchased broken and easily repaired. The third I purchased second-hand and without any issues, but it arrived with a large paint chip on the chest, which seemed to be due to missing primer. To the best of my recollection, I have never received a new FL figure with any damage. FL packs them quite well, and their figures are surprisingly hardy.

I have around 200 FL figures, bought through dealers. Breakages are quite common and on sale items no refund from dealers (maybe I should go straight to FL). Around 1 or 2 figures Brocken per order (usually around 10% of what I order). Worst were pikes from the Renaissance figures. But overall I am satisfied with what I get and expect to have a few casualties. Hoping one last push on the sale items being discontinued.

Looking forward to those Assyrians.

Gary

Over the past 7 years I have bought ~1,500 First Legion figures. Of those only two had real problems and were promptly replaced. Personally I don’t think it’s a big deal to super glue a bayonet back on.
