football season is here!!!!!!!!!! (2 Viewers)

"A Manning Bowl would be fantastic! Here's hoping. With the Colts finished the season, you can't say it's out of the realm of possibility. George and Tom, we'll get you the movie schedule for that day :D"

Brad, I had the "pleasure" of being a Jets fan for three hours yesterday; Chinese water torture is more like it. I cannot fathom what rooting for that team the past 40 years like you've done must do to ones soul.

I went into that game with zero confidence the drama queen could get it done, he did not disappoint. He should have stayed retired.

The Jets knocked off the Patriots and Titans in back to back weeks on the road, stood at 8-3 and looked like they were going to he hosting the AFCCG AT WORST.

They proceeded to lose to Denver, San Francisco, Buffalo (that counted as a "win" but you and I both know you had zero business winning that game), Seattle and Miami to close out the season 9-7.

Pathetic.

So Brad, are you Jets shirts reversable with Giants colors on the inside so you can turn them insideout come playoff time every year?

If not, they should be.

"I'm sorry that it would be your biggest nightmare, George, and that you would hate it Tom, but I would love to see Eli's Giants play Peyton's Colts in the Superbowl."

The Colts and the Giants in the Championship game, just like 1958.

Only problem is the Colts should still be in Baltimore; if they were, Peyton or no Peyton, I'd be rooting for them, I was a big Colts fan as a kid, my Dad loved Mr Unitas.

The fact that they left those fans high and dry was and still is to this day a sin.

Warrior -- AMEN! Bring back the Colts to Baltimore! (I realize this is a little late and maybe a little bit unrealistic but what the heck). -- lancer

It was also the way it was done: in the middle of the night. At least when the old Browns moved to Baltimore, they gave up the Browns name.

I thought football season would never get here!!!!!!! now I love my baseball but when your team (the orioles) are 20 games out of first it makes for a long summer, but nothing is better then football, my Ravens are going to rebound from last year and have a playoff type season this year (hopefully) first prediction......Ravens 20 - Bengals 17......Sammy

Hi all, I started this thread back in Sept., looks like I had a good prediction about my Ravens, but if you had told me with all the injuries we have had and a rookie q.b. starting all 16 games back then, well I may have thought you were crazy!!! as long as the Raven "D" plays well and our offense gets some points this weekend against the Dolphins I think we should win, but I do think it will be close.

RAVENS 17
DOLPHINS 13

hopefully......Sammy

Glad to see the cards and the chargers win today, Arizona is much better then people give them credit for, and the chargers just won't go away, now I can only prey my Ravens win tommorow!!!!!!!!!..Sammy

Sorry Brad, the Chargers made sure that Tom and I will be able to watch the Super Bowl yet again this year. What a great game, the Chargers were the better team and had they not shot themselves in the foot twice inside the five yard line, this game would have been a blowout.

Peyton "MVP" Manning; 7-8 lifetime in the playoffs, one Super Bowl win.............................

Just because he only has one Super Bowl win doesn't mean he's not a great QB. Obviously, in our society, where success is measured by how much of this you have, people may say he's lacking, especially when compared with Bradshaw, Montana, Brady or Starr, but then Namath won only one and he was definitely a great QB. Marino never won any and he's definitely a great one. On the other hand Dilfer won one with the Ravens and I wouldn't put him on the same level with Manning.

Well maybe just transfer the name and the pre-move history back to Baltimore. Give Indianapolis the "Raven" name and logos, afterall, they are the ones that benefited from the "night move", fitting name swap I would think.;):D

Brad, to me, greatness is more than just gaudy stats like Manning has year after year after year. It's about clutch performances in the playoffs, like Brady, Montana, Elway, etc have done time and time again. Elway will forever be remembered for "the drive", Montana for "the catch" and Brady for not one, but two game ending Super Bowl drives for the winning soore as time expired on the clock.

Manning has been surrounded his entire career by great talent (Clarke, Harrison, Wayne, Gonzalez, etc) and has a grand total of one Super Bowl appearance when it fact he should by all rights have AT LEAST 3, maybe even 4.

Noone can argue with his regular season stats, they are all world, he is a first ballot HOF lock.

I'll take rings over busts anyday and twice on Sunday.......

Hard to understand why the NFL allows an 8 win Charger team to have home field over a 12 win Colt team. I know the Chargers won their division, but that is a bit strange. I think in the NBA the team with best record always has the home court. That's the way it should be. I could care less about who won the game - my LA Rams being long dead, but that just seems wrong.

Nothing against the Chargers who surprised me by having such a poor record this year but I agree mate. It is just odd to have 12-4 teams at home and 8-8 teams advance.

George,

Manning threw for 310 yards yesterday in that overtime loss, despite at least 3 big drops by his wideouts. He has no running game and a suspect defense and yet has one 10 games or more 7 years in a row, something no other quarterback has ever done. If you put Peyton on my Giants, or your Patriots, or the 1980's Giants or 49ers, or any other team with a defense and a running game, can you credibly argue he wouldn't have won mutliple superbowls? Give credit where credit is due, and don't waste your time knocking a guy who is in the top 5 all time at his position.

I can't believe the Cards beat the Falcons after the beating they took from the Patriots two weeks ago. I am not surprised the Chargers were able to beat the Colts at home, although I thought Manning would find away to pull it out like he has all season. The only game that is going the way I expected is the Ravens abuse of the Dolphins (although I did not forsee a Miami team that tied the 2000 Superbowl Champion Giants for the fewest turnovers in a 16 game season - 13 - turning the ball over half a dozen times).

Thank God for my Raven defense, it wasn't pretty on offense, but right now I'll take the win over the dolphins. but if were to keep up in the playoff race we gotta find some offense, because playing the titans next week won't be a cake walk esp. in Tennessee, it's going to be a dog fight to the end, turnovers and penalties will decide this one, my prediction

Ravens...13
Titans....10

see ya in pittsburgh!!!..Sammy

Now that the Divisional round is set, my picks are as follows:

NFC

Giants over Eagles (this will be the best game next weekend)

Carolina over Arizona (won't be close)

AFC

Pittsburgh over Chargers (wild card is health of Pitt QB)

Tenn over Ravens (there won't be any gifts here)

Ill take Eagles over the Giants in the upset.

Carolina will man handle Arizona.

Pittsburgh over the Chargers.

Tennessee over Baltimore in a close one.

Interesting pics so far.

I like the Eagles chances vs the Giants, if Westbrook comes up big and McNab does as well, this could be a big upset. I'll go with the Eagles.

Carolina will pummel Arizona.

Steelers should beat the Chargers, but San Diego is on a roll, winners of five in a row and noone knows how Big Ben feels now or at game time. Should be a good game, I like the Steelers and their D in this one.

The Ravens D looked sick today, Ed Reed is incredible, what a talent. Their QB looked hot and cold; if that offense shows up next week, could be trouble for the Ravens, but Kerry Collins does not scare anyone at this point. I'll take the Ravens over the Titans.

Louis, I said the guy is a mega talent and first ballot lock for the HOF; that said, sorry, I'll take a guy who not only puts up big numbers, but is also clutch in crunch time, something Peyton has not been but one time, in the second half of the 2006 AFCCG vs the Patriots.

You can make your arguement about quite afew QB's, ie, put Marino/Manning etc on such and such a team and he'd win four Super Bowls, but the fact of the matter is you dance with whom you dance with, and Manning has had not one, but TWO likely HOF WR's to throw to, not to mention Edge and Addaii as RB's, not exactly chopped liver.

ESPN had a poll recently ranking the top 10 QB's of all time and Manning was either third or fourth; the same poll ranked the top 10 CLUTCH QB's of all time.

Peyton was not even in the top ten.

I rest my case.

George,

What exactly is clutch? Was Tom Brady not clutch in last year's superbowl? Despite the fact that the Giants defense beat him like a drum, he drove the Pat's down the field for the go-ahead score with less than three minutes remaining. But the Giants drove down the field on the PATRIOTS' DEFENSE, NOT TOM BRADY, for the winning score. But he lost, so he can't have been clutch, right? When Eli Manning, in his second playoff start drove down the field for the touchdown to tie the Eagles in Philadelphia with less than two minutes left, was that clutch? I guess not, because the Giants defense gave up a last second 45 yard field goal to lose. The fact of the matter is that you can't judge any individual player on wins of losses, because this is a team sport.

You have to look at how the player performs in high pressure situations. As I recall, Peyton Manning lost two very close playoff games where he put north of 20 points on the Patriots in miserable weather in Foxboro, but the Colts defense could not keep the Pats from the winning score. Was that him not being clutch, or the Colts defense just stinking when it counted? Flip the situation, and have Manning with the ball last on his home field against a defense that is not quite up to snuff, and I think he would look just as clutch, by your definition, as Tom Brady or Joe Montana.

What about Jim Kelly? Was he clutch? The guy drove down the field with less than two minutes remaining against a great Bill Bellichek coached Giants defense, but Scott Norwood missed a 47 yard fieldgoal as time expired so he never won the big one. By your definition, he is not clutch, because he lost, but last time I checked, he wasn't the guy who missed the field goal.

And one of your own examples, John Elway, proves my point. Playing on Broncos Teams without a great running game or defense, he lost three superbowls. For 15 years, the knock on John Elway by the people who judge quarterbacks by championships was that he just couldn't win the big game. But then, at the tail end of his career, he got a great running back and a stout defense, won two superbowls and was suddenly "clutch". The guy was one of the all time greats from day one, as was Jim Kelly, but they just didn't have the supporting cast on defense to get the job done.

I would take Dan Marino or Peyton Manning over Joe Montana or Terry Bradshaw as the quarterback I would draft if I were building a team. Put the right team around them, and they would be plenty clutch. All they would need is a defense who could stop the other team's quarterback from looking clutch, and all would be well.
