Here are a few pictures of a diorama of Marye's Heights in the bookstore next to the Visitors Center at Fredericksburg . My wife took the pictures while I held the plexiglass cover that the manager graciously permitted me to remove .

Very nice indeed, I like your ground work a lot.

Rob

Sure looks like one of WB's dioramas by Ken Osen that's one of the reason why you like the ground work Rob........The Lt.

Richard Walker and Ken Osen have been very busy going to many ACW National Park Battlefields promoting the W. Britain ACW product line. Ken has been making the dioramas for the W. Britain displays. Very nicely done . . . .

Very nice indeed. I thought that was Ken's work when I first looked at it.

Hi All!
Although I know I posted at least one of these some time ago, I thought you might like to see them again. This is of the Fredericksburg diorama before Richard and I left for our road trip and delivery to the NPS gift shop.

I set up a combination of 'Clear the Way' figures I sculpted for W. Britain when it was owned by Ertle some years ago along with ACW Rebs I sculpted more recently for 1st Gear/W. Britain. When the diorama was delivered we naturally placed currently available inventory on it.

The old figures now appear a bit dated, but I think it would be fun to add some new ACW figures to the line in winter clothing... Anyone interested?

All the Best,
Ken Osen

I too have the set "Clear The Way" but have never used it in a dio apart from a stand alone set-up simply because I have no Rebs in winter duds ie blankets covering their shoulders or wrapped around their feet, muslin bound musket barrels to stop them from freezing etc.. From all the accounts I have read the bitter weather conditions and biting winds at Fredericksburg was worse for the Rebs awaiting the advance of the Federals than it was for the boys in blue on their march through the town and up the heights

Just as an example looking at the Britains set-up in the pictures of the OP I very much doubt that Reb artillery men would have stood on Marye's Heights in just shirt sleeves and pants on that December day {eek3}.

Personally I would be very very keen for an ACW winter series simply because the lack of such figures in the market place makes it almost impossible to accurately depict Fredericksburg or The Stones River Campaign or even the Battle of Nashville which as I'm sure you know were all conducted during the winter and in the latter during a fearful ice storm. I would love to build a winter ACW dio with a dusting of snow on the ground instead of grass. But whether such a series of Yanks in great coats and Rebs shivering in their threadbare blankets would be a winner with the ACW collectors is a hard call.

While I am not an ACW collector, I often contemplate what my ACW collection WOULD look like (not going to happen:rolleyes2:). Personally, I love the look of winter uniforms, especially on the Irish Brigade. IF I were to have a collection of this period, it would have to be Fredericksburg, with some Irish on Irish :)({sm2}) action, and some dramatic poses with some artillery and lots of wounded :)({sm2}).

With size and scale it's tough to get the full scope of the battle. The Union troops never got that close to the wall in the battle but .....your diorama catches the "spirit' of the fight on Maryes Height. Perhaps a larger mass of Confederates on the wall would give the impression that the Union troops are just NOT going to get through.

Ooops sorry I didn't catch that this is a store display.

I own the "Clear the Way" figures and they are some of my favorite ACW figures. Wouldn't mind seeing additional winter figures for Murfreesboro or Hood's Tennessee campaign. One request, if more Fredericksburg figures are done, please DO NOT do a personality figure of Jeff Daniels reciting Shakespeare.:rolleyes2: -- Al

It gets worse than that : in the Directors cut of Gods & Generals Maxwell has reinstated the scene of Chamberlain actually meeting John Wilkes Booth after watching him perform Julius Caesar..............Can't wait {eek3}
