This would appear to be my kind of film especially as it aligns with my ACW collecting era.

I bought Victoria Bynum's book on the subject about 10 years ago during a visit to the US as I was not familiar with Confederate soldier Newt Knight's rebellion within a rebellion. Hope the film is as good as her book.

Re: Free State of Jones

Half of my ancestry comes from the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina.
A few volunteered into the Confederate Army.
A few others were kidnapped from their farms and conscripted into the CSA.
Some others went into Tennessee and volunteered into the Union Cavalry, The Tennessee 13th.

Been a while since we had a good ACW movie. This one looks interesting.

Free State of Jones is an upcoming American action-drama film inspired by the life of Newton Knight and his armed rebellion against the Confederacy in Jones County, Mississippi during the American Civil War. The film was written and directed by Gary Ross, and stars Matthew McConaughey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mahershala Ali, Keri Russell and Brendan Gleeson. The film is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on June 24, 2016 by STX Entertainment.

From Wiki
A Rebel Soldier who recently deserted and came into our lines tells me that in the Tulahoma [Tallahoma] Swamps in Jones Co., Mississippi, there are some six hundred Deserters who are waiting for our forces to get near, so they can join them. They have deserted the Confederate cause and are determined to fight them to the last. All efforts from the Confederates to force them out have been unsuccessful and they are now offering a bounty to Deserters to join them.
—James Lamon, Union scout.

Next time I will look back two months and four pages..........

For those with a memory problem, there is a search function at the top of every page. Also, you can almost be assured that any movie dealing with the American Civil War has already been posted. As a clue here are many aficionados on this forum.

I must have missed your similar comments when Brad started his Hateful 8 thread. Naughty Brad should also have used the search function. Also pretty sure that would count as ACW related.

See how easy the Search function is to use. Now you have the hang of it. Or did you have help.

There are too many Free State of Jones threads on this forum, do we need all these Film Wars. Why can't we all just get along {sm2}

Actually my memory helped me know what to search for. I am still receiving therapy from the realisation that Brad had started a thread about the same movie as me. There should be a law against it.

Incidentally I am thinking about starting a thread on a movie being released in 2017. Do I get naming rights and what steps will be taken to stop people creating a new thread a year after mine has faded ? These are important issues and all movie threads should be put on hold until you can issue a ruling.

By the way today is Easter Sunday. Try not to get any more egg on your face.

PS. Matt, on the scale of things this is only a minor war. More like a 1/72 rather than a 1/30 type debate.

and three minutes later you bump up the old thread from 2 months ago. You must really prefer the old thread. What does that say about your psyche ?

Not to worry I give in, I acknowledge UKrebs thread as the "approved" thread on this movie. Hopefully when people search for this movie my thread only comes up if they type in "double standards".

Wow, someone got out of the wrong side of the bed, why so angry?

How about we go back to enjoying movie's and leave the kids stuff where it belongs!
